Resistance Toward Domination of Racial Difference Ideology in Jacqueline Woodson\u27s Novels

This article was a result of the library research which was conducted by using Gramscian hegemony theory and ideology concept by Thompson. The media analized was the three novels by Jacqueline Woodson, they were Maizon at Blue Hill (MBH), If You Come Softly (IYCS), and Lena. The analysis of ideology use language, continued by the process of resitance, and finaly ideology negotiation. The result of the research shows that there are five resistance forms toward domination and ideology dissemination of racial differences in Jacqueline Woodson\u27s novels, they are (1) moderation, (2) pretention, (3) devaluation, (4) respectful resignation, and (5) rejection

Racism in the Post-colonial Society: a Critical Discourse Analysis to Jacqueline Woodson's Novels

RASISME DALAM MASYARAKAT PASCAKOLONIAL: Sebuah Analisis Wacana Kritis terhadap Novel-novel Jacqueline WoodsonAbstractRacism can be a reason for a certain group of people to behave as civilized society and assume other groups as uncivilized society. Racism is closely related to orientalism and colonialism, since generally colonialism enrooted on the superiority ism of European or Western race as white. This research analyzes racial issues in the novels of Jacqueline Woodson. This research was conducted by using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) theory. The researcher also used deconstruction reading approach in order to reveal racial issues in this novel. The result of the research found that these novels show the traces of racism in pascacolonial era in America. In this novel the racism act of white is reflected in its relation with black people. Its relation shows up in some aspects; First, white's prejudice toward black people in order to maintain white supremacy. Second, discrimination and segregation that are constructed by white to make black living in marginality. Those discrimination and segregation are conducted by using verbal expression, avoidance, exclusion, physical abuse, and extinction. Third, resistance of black people against racial discrimination.Key words: Racism, racial prejudice, discrimination, segregation, resistance Abstrak Perbedaan ras dapat menjadi akar konflik sosial apabila diikuti oleh ideologi rasisme, yaitu keyakinan suatu kelompok yang beranggapan bahwa kelompok ras mereka lebih unggul dari ras yang lain. Rasisme sering dijadikan alasan oleh suatu kelompok untuk bersikap sebagai ras yang berperadaban, sekaligus beranggapan bahwa kelompok ras yang lain adalah masyarakat yang tidak berperadaban. Ideologi rasisme tersebut berkaitan erat degan orientalisme dan kolonialisme, karena biasanya kolonialisme berakar pada keyakinan tentang superioritas masyarakat Eropa atau Barat sebagai ras kulit putih yang lebih unggul. Penelitian ini mengkaji isu-isu rasial dalam novel karya Jacqueline Woodson. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Peneliti juga menggunakan metode pembacaan dekonstruksi untuk mengungkapkan isu-isu rasial dalam novel. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa novel-novel Jacqueline Woodson mengungkapkan jejak-jejak rasisme yang masih hidup pada era pasca kolonial di Amerika. Dalam karya tersebut ditemukan bahwa ideologi rasisme yang ditunjukkan oleh ras kulit putih terhadap ras kulit hitam nampak dalam beberapa aspek; pertama, sikap prasangka rasial ras kulit putih terhadap ras kulit hitam untuk menjaga supremasi ras kulit putih. Kedua, diskriminasi dan pemisahan yang dikonstruksi oleh ras kulit putih untuk memarjinalkan ras kulit hitam. Tindakan tersebut muncul dalam bentuk ekspresi verbal, penghindaran, pengucilan, kekerasan fisik, dan pembunuhan. Gambaran Kualitas Hidup Dan Tingkat Kecemasan Pasien Osteoartritis Lutut Di Instalasi Rehabilitasi Medik Rsup Dr. Kariadi Semarang

Background: The incidence of osteoarthritis increases with age and become major cause of disability among the elderly. The prevalence of osteoarthritis knee is quite high in Indonesia, especially in Semarang city and the effect on quality of life and levels of anxiety osteoarthritis knee behind this research.Objective: To determine picture quality of life and levels of anxiety in patients with osteoarthritis knee in Department Medical Rehabilitation Dr. Kariadi Hospital period March - June 2015.Methods: This study used a descriptive method. The samples used were 25 patients taken appropriate inclusion criteria which includes the criteria of knee osteoarthritis according to American College of Rheumatology (ACR), the patients had radiological examination of the knee joint and is willing to participate in research. The data collected is of primary data in the form of the results of the SF-36 questionnaire to measure quality of life and HAM-A to measure the level of anxiety in patients. After all data has been collected is done editing, encoding is done then processed statistically descriptive calculate the distribution of each variable and also made a chart for each of the data obtained.Results: The distribution of the female sex more than men by 22 (88%) patients. The highest degree of knee osteoarthritis was grade 3 as many as 14 (56%) patients. The highest age group 55-65 years were 13 (52%) patients. Location osteoarthritis occurred in both knees (bilateral) by 12 (48%). Results of the questionnaire SF-36 obtained 24 (96%) patients had a poorer quality of life, while the results of the questionnaire HAM-A in 20 (80%) patients with osteoarthritis knee are known not to have symptoms of anxiety.Conclusions: The majority of patients with osteoarthritis knee in Department Medical Rehabilitation Dr. Kariadi Hospital have a poor quality of life and do not have symptoms of anxiety

A hybrid piezoelectric–electromagnetic nonlinear vibration energy harvester excited by fluid flow

Energy harvesting mechanisms can be used to extract energy from ambient surroundings to power small electronic devices, which has a significant advantage in realizing self-sustaining wireless devices. The proposed design of this study uses the internal fluid flow within a pipe and takes advantage of the fluid-structure interaction through flow-induced vibration of a bluff body. The hybrid harvester uses the vibration to convert electrical energy through a piezoelectric material and an electromagnetic oscillator that can be tuned to resonate at the oscillation frequency. A numerical solver was used to estimate harvestable voltage for this submerged hybrid energy harvester model by using ordinary differential equations. A computational study was used to optimize the performance of the bluff bodies under the influence of the vortices for circular, triangular, ellipse, and quadrilateral shapes. Wake development was seen in the circular and triangular shapes with the ellipse having the lowest turbulence kinetic energy among the shapes. Structural deflection of the beam under resonance was compared for the different shapes, which displayed better results for triangular and elliptical bluff bodies.This work is supported by International Research Collaboration Co-Funds (IRCC-2020-017) from Qatar University.Scopu

Konsep Virtual Reality dengan animasi 3 Dimensi menjadi sebuah inovasi pada kegiatan pameran secara online pada saat pandemic.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah sebuah penerapan racangan 3D pada sebuah platform pameran dengan konsep marketplace di 3D Virtual Reality. Adanya penerapan Occlusion Based untuk membangun e-Matketplace sehingga konsep 3D Virtual Exhibitionnya hidup. Sehingga sistem pameran akan terlihat nyata, terlihat adanya animasi, sebuah konsep gedung, dan ada sistem manajemen web backend sehingga mudah dalam mengkontrol sistem aplikasi ini nantinya. Metode Pengembangan sistem yang cocok dalam pengembangan aplikasi ini adalah dengan metode ADDIE yaitu Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluate. Design and Development of a Smart Vibration Absorber

High-rise buildings have become normalized for urban cities as it minimizes the available land used to house many tenants. The stability of the buildings is often subjected to extraneous loading from the wind and ground. When the excitation frequency matches one of the modes of the building, resonance occurs which causes large deformations. As a result, catastrophic damages and failures can occur when buildings are allowed to be excited for long periods. Damping mechanisms are widely adopted in industrial applications for their ability to minimize unwanted vibrations, increase a system's stability, and shift the natural frequency. A two-story building model was developed, and its natural frequencies were studied using finite element analysis techniques. Afterward, a vibration absorber was created to minimize the structural failure with a tuned mass damper. The effectiveness of the absorber was compared both analytically and computationally. A multi-modal vibration absorber can be employed for high-rise buildings to minimize the damage from natural effects such as earthquakes and strong winds.Scopu
