    Get PDF
The ERP system is one of the most important systems implemented by organizations in Jordan, whether governmental or private organizations. Because of the numerous development in Internet services and the increasing dependence on web services, this has led to the appearance of many types of ERP systems that depend on web services and use the web interface as the main interface for the system, and because of this development in the ERP system and its dependence on web services, this has led to problems in security with ERP system, especially since this system will be vulnerable to a hacker attack because it contains important data for organizations because the ERP system is a large database that serves all departments of organizations such as the finance, administrative, and marketing departments. This makes it a major target through which hackers seek access to organization data, which makes the security of an ERP system based on Web services an important topic that must be studied. Therefore, this paper will focus on the topic of ERP Security and will address the basic principles, properties, main requirements, and challenges of ERP system security based on Web services

Cognition and Rhetoric in English Language Learners' Writing: A Developmental Study

The present study examined the effectiveness of an instructional method in English language writing. The instruction concerned a cognitive process, i.e., Bereiter and Scardamalias (1987) knowledge-transforming, and a discourse genre, i.e., the Toulmin (1958/2003) model of argument. The instruction in the process is significant since generating discourse content was identified as a problem for novice writers. The instruction in the Toulmin model is significant since lack of attention to genre was identified as a problem in cognitive approaches to writing. To teach and research knowledge-transforming composing and the Toulmin model, the tenets of cognitive strategy instruction in writing and sociocultural theory of mind were adopted. Instruction was adopted after Scardamalia, Bereiter, and Steinbach (1984) and had three components: explicit strategy instruction in the Toulmin model, mediation of the writing process through artefacts, and two types of verbalization: (focused) freewriting and languaging. The study had a mixed-methods design with a quasi-experimental quantitative component and a qualitative component consisting of textual analysis, dynamic assessment (DA), semi-structured interviews, and surveys. The results indicated statistically significant gains for two of the categories of the Toulmin model, i.e., rebuttal and response to rebuttal, in the texts generated by the experimental group (EG) (n = 13) when compared with those of the comparison group (n = 13). Specifically, the gains suggested the rise above conflict criterion (Scardamalia et al., 1984) in knowledge-transforming, indicating the effectiveness of instruction. When four participants texts in EG group were analyzed developmentally, they also demonstrated knowledge-transforming and improved rhetorical structure. In particular, some discourse features which were absent in the posttest essays were indeed present in those texts. Also, the text analysis indicated the participants were able to use the mediational artefacts to generate discourse content. The DA results indicated that, with varying degrees of mediation, the participants were able to name, generate, and/or revise the discourse features, some of which were absent in the participants posttest essays. The interviews and surveys indicated the participants positive perceptions of instruction and its effect on cognitive change and rhetorical structure of argumentative texts. The study has implications for L2 academic writing instruction, assessment, and research

3-Hydroxy Fatty Acids Induce Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cell Lipoapoptosis

Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation (FAO) plays an important role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis, especially during catabolic stress. Genetic mutation in gene that encodes for mitochondrial FAO enzymes could result in metabolic stress especially during fasting or hypoglycemic condition. Mutation in the active site residue (1528G\u3eC) of long chain 3-hydroxy acyl CoA dehydrogenase (LCHAD) results in the loss of LCHAD enzyme activity. Children’s with LCHAD mutation were known to accumulate 3-hydroxy fatty acids such as 3-hydroxy palmitic acid and 3-hydroxy myristic acids, long chain free fatty acids, acyl carnitine and 3-hydroxy dicarboxylic acid due to their defective enzyme activity. These accumulated 3-hydroxy fatty acids and long chain free fatty acids are toxic compound to the cellular tissues and results in the development of retinopathy. Here we hypothesize that increased levels of 3-hydroxy fatty acid due to a mutation in LCHAD would induce retinal pigment epithelial cell lipoapoptosis and palmitoleate (PO) protects against 3-hydroxy fatty acid-induced retinal lipoapoptosis. Normal human immortalized retinal pigment epithelial cells (ARPE-19) were treated with 3-hydroxy fatty acid (3-HFA) for 24 hours and biochemical markers of lipoapoptosis such as characteristic nuclear morphological changes of apoptosis and caspase 3/7 activity were measured. Mitochondrial bioenergetics were assessed using Seahorse XF24 extracellular flux analyzer and lipid droplets were stained with oil red ‘O’ dye. After 24-hours of 3-HFAs treatment to ARPE-19 cells, we observed a significant increase in percent apoptotic nuclei and caspase 3/7 activity compared to the vehicle treated cells suggesting retinal lipoapoptosis. Further, percent cell survival and metabolic activity were decreased in cells treated with 3-HFA compared to vehicle treatment. 3-HFA-induced retinal cell lipoapoptosis is cJun N-terminal kinase- and caspase-dependent lipoapoptosis. Treatment of 3-HFAs to retinal cells showed decreased mitochondrial bioenergetics as evidenced by a decrease in basal respiration, ATP production, maximal respiration and mitochondrial coupling efficiency compared to vehicle (p Advisor: Sathish Kumar Nataraja

Incorporating the Common Body of Knowledge for Business Process Management Certification in the MSIS Model Curriculum

Business Process Management (BPM) certification is a relatively new area in the Business Schools and other similar academic units and it appeared in the curriculum about a decade ago. Industry stakeholders and a small number of higher education institutions have provided professional training and certification in this area since the 1990’s. As more colleges and professional organizations develop courses, certificates, and programs in the BPM area, we hope to continue the dialogue between the academic and professional organizations to look at similarities and differences that may exist among the proposed BPM Common Body of Knowledge and guidelines proposed by professional organizations and existing academic IS model curriculum. This paper examines incorporating the BPM Common Body of Knowledge developed by the Association of Business Process Management Professionals, a leading BPM professional organization, in the MSIS model curriculum. The paper also identifies the gaps that exist in the MSIS model curriculum to cover the BPM Common Body of Knowledge

Qualityof an MIS Doctoral Program--Can We Measure It?

The state board of higher education or similar agencies in many states have been looking at institutions of higher education with intense scrutiny to potentially reduce program duplication, and to improve both quality and productivity. Internal and external program reviews are ways to assess effectiveness of degree programs. Accreditation of schools, for example AACSB accreditation, is seen by some as a measure of quality of programs offered at various schools. Many assessments of higher education quality in the past have totally excluded the teaching function as part of the overall quality assessment. Prestige is often confused with quality. A component of program reviews consists of comparison between them. The purpose of this paper is to look at some existing MIS doctoral programs in the United States and Canada; to highlight the similarities and differences among these programs; and to generate some ideas on ways to potentially measure the quality of an MIS doctoral program. It is emphasized thatany assessment of MIS doctoral program quality incorporate the teaching function as a part of the overall quality assessment. Further, it is suggested that enterprises such as the ISWorld Net could potentially be utilized to improve the quality of MIS doctoral education

    Analog current mode analog/digital converter

An improved subranging or comparator circuit is provided for an analog-to-digital converter. As a subranging circuit, the circuit produces a residual signal representing the difference between an analog input signal and an analog of a digital representation. This is achieved by subdividing the digital representation into two or more parts and subtracting from the analog input signal analogs of each of the individual digital portions. In another aspect of the present invention, the subranging circuit comprises two sets of differential input pairs in which the transconductance of one differential input pair is scaled relative to the transconductance of the other differential input pair. As a consequence, the same resistor string may be used for two different digital-to-analog converters of the subranging circuit
