    Get PDF
The phytochemical study of the bark of Malaysian Phoebe scortechinii (Lauraceae) has resulted in the isolation and identification of two new proaporphine alkaloids; (+)-scortechiniine A (1) and (+)-scortechiniine B (2) together with two known proaporphines; (−)-hexahydromecambrine A (3), (−)-norhexahydromecambrine A (4), and one aporphine; norboldine (5). Structural elucidations of these alkaloids were performed using spectroscopic methods especially 1D and 2D 1H and 13C NMR

Conversion of fused knee following distal femur tumor surgery to total knee arthroplasty

    Get PDF
Conversion of knee arthrodesis to total knee arthroplasty is a difficult procedure accompanied by many complications due to soft tissue and extensor mechanism contracture and bone defects. We report two cases of distal femur osteosarcoma that had been undergone wide resection arthrodesis initially. Arthrodesis was converted to total knee arthroplasty with hinged prosthesis after many years. We describe patients' history and outline their surgical therapy and prognosis. To the best of the authors' knowledge, few cases have been previously reported in the literature. © 2013, Iranian Red Crescent Medical Journal

peer reviewedSeminal characteristics and blood biochemical attributes were studied in breeder roosters orally administered with sage extract (SG), an herbal extract well known to have potent antioxidant activities. Sixty roosters (34 weeks old) were randomly allotted to five treatment groups to receive no SG, or orally administered with 110, 210, 320, or 420 mg SG/kg liveweight for 8 weeks. Semen samples were evaluated weekly. Blood samples were taken fortnightly and a total of 21 biochemical indices were measured to unmask the effects of SG (especially the adverse ones) on the clinical profile. Excluding the sperm concentration and seminal content of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (sperm membrane lipid peroxidation index), other seminal traits exhibited one of the linear, quadratic, or cubic responses to the various levels of SG. The most improvements in total live sperm number and sperm membrane integrity (as determined by the hypoosmotic swelling test) were observed in birds receiving 210 and 320 mg SG/kg liveweight, respectively. Serum testosterone level was generally higher (cubically, P ≤ 0.015), but serum copper was lower (linearly, P ≤ 0.014) in SG-administered birds. Birds receiving 320 and 420 mg SG showed a decreased content of C18:2(n-6) in sperm plasma membrane. Other biochemical attributes or sperm fatty acids were not affected. It seems that most improvement in the seminal characteristics could be achieved 5-6 weeks following the administration of 210 and 320 mg SG/kg liveweight without any apparent adverse effect on the blood biochemical indices. The improvements, however, could not be attributed to the antioxidative effect of SG. Although it is hypothesised that an increased serum testosterone might have been involved, the underlying mechanism(s) remain(s) to be clarified. © CSIRO 2013

Each country is currently focusing on developing tourism, considering its impact on economic growth and people’s welfare. Yogyakarta is one of the regions with diverse tourist destinations. The majority of tourist destinations in Yogyakarta city promote arts and culture as tourism icons, including tourism village destinations. However, tourism villages in the city have not fully received tourist attention. Therefore, solutions are required to be found to optimize tourism management and significantly increase the number of tourist visits. This paper aimed to describe the interaction between the government, the tourism industry, higher education institution, media, society, and environment in the tourism village management in Yogyakarta city. The discussion results describe that tourism village management requires synergistic interaction from some elements covering the government, tourism industry, higher education institution, media, society, and environment. The interaction can at least be a solution in improving the quality of tourism village management. Triple-Helix focuses on interactions among higher education institution, industry, and government on innovation. Quadruple-Helix adds the fourth helix, namely culture and media-based public. Quintuple-Helix is a collaboration of elements contained in the Quadruple-Helix with the addition of the natural environment of society. Penta-Helix adds the media element. With the presence of the government, tourism industry, higher education institution, media, society, and environment that interact with each other, the management of tourism villages in Yogyakarta city becomes more optimal and attract more tourists to visit

URBAN SPRAWL DI KOTA SEMARANG: KARAKTERISTIK DAN EVALUASINYA TERHADAP RENCANA DETAIL TATA RUANG KOTA

Semarang City as the capital city of Central Java Province continues to grow rapidly, but this city still classified as over bounded city where theres still many citys physical appearance does not reflect urban condition. During its urban growth, city will tend to spread into suburban areas to convert urban fringe areas into land up area. This spreading urban nature is called urban sprawl. This study aim to: (1) identify the Semarang Citys growth in macro scale during 1992-2000, (2) identify the urban sprawl characteristics which includes its level, direction and type of urban sprawl of Semarang City during 2000-2009, (3) assesing the characteristics of urban changes on area which has high level of urban sprawl and low level of landuse suitability from RDTRK (detailed spatial planning), (4) evaluate the unsuitability between landuse and detailed spatial planning. This research method basically derived from secondary data analysis by using spatial land up area. Tipology created from comparing two variables, urban sprawl level with suitability value from landuse and RDTRK as a tool for purposive sampling on third and fourth aims. Suitability value derived from overlaying 2009 landuse map with RDRTK zoning map. The result showed that development of Semarang City on macro scale during 1992-2000 follows accessibility factor, leads to the West, East and South, the biggest urban growth located on 10-15 Km zone from CBD. Identification results of urban sprawl during 2000-2009 shows high-level of urban sprawl spread around city, theres 118 from 177 village which has high-level of urban sprawl. In Tipology A (high urban sprwal and low suitability between landuse and RDTRK) largest landuse change is from plantation into crop field, Tipology B (high urban sprawl and high suitability between landuse and RDTRK) the largest change is irigated rice field into settlement, Tipology C (low urban sprawl and low suitability between landuse and RDTRK) the largest change is plantation into crop field. Overall Semarang City has 18.69 % of unsuitability between landuse and RDTRK

Two-Parameter Isotherms Of Methyl Orange Sorption By Pinecone Derived Activated Carbon

The adsorption of a mono azo dye methyl-orange (MeO) onto granular pinecone derived activated carbon (GPAC), from aqueous solutions, was studied in a batch system. Seven two-parameter isotherm models Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevic, Temkin, Halsey, Jovanovic and Hurkins-Jura were used to fit the experimental data. The results revealed that the adsorption isotherm models fitted the data in the order of Jovanovic (X2=1.374) > Langmuir > Dubinin-Radushkevic > Temkin > Freundlich > Halsey > Hurkins-Jura isotherms. Adsorption isotherms modeling showed that the interaction of dye with activated carbon surface is localized monolayer adsorption. A comparison of kinetic models was evaluated for the pseudo-second order, Elovich and Lagergren kinetic models. Lagergren first order model was found to agree well with the experimental data (X2=9.231). In order to determine the best-fit isotherm and kinetic models, two error analysis methods of Residual Mean Square Error and Chi-square statistic (X2) were used to evaluate the data
