Field behavior of an Ising model with aperiodic interactions

We derive exact renormalization-group recursion relations for an Ising model, in the presence of external fields, with ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor interactions on Migdal-Kadanoff hierarchical lattices. We consider layered distributions of aperiodic exchange interactions, according to a class of two-letter substitutional sequences. For irrelevant geometric fluctuations, the recursion relations in parameter space display a nontrivial uniform fixed point of hyperbolic character that governs the universal critical behavior. For relevant fluctuations, in agreement with previous work, this fixed point becomes fully unstable, and there appears a two-cycle attractor associated with a new critical universality class.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figure (included). Strategic planning for urban air mobility: Perceptions of citizens and potential users on autonomous flying vehicles

World’s current mobility systems are often inefficient and unsustainable, therefore the need for new schemes to satisfy mobility needs appears. This quest has given the impetus to the industry to invest in new technologies such as autonomous systems enabling self-driving vehicles. In this context, the concept of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), a term used for short-distance, on-demand, highly automated, passenger or cargo-carrying air mobility services, has arisen. This paper presents the introduction phase of strategic planning for the era of urban air mobility focusing on user and citizen acceptance of the system required for its operation. A survey is designed to capture the perception of citizens and potential users on aspects such as safety, security, well-being of the society (including issues of aesthetics, quality of life, social impacts), driving behaviour, mobility behaviour, expected benefits and their impact on the acceptance and the intention to use these systems. The acceptance of citizens and potential users (considered as two different groups) is analysed in terms of its potential uses (e.g. health emergencies, leisure, connectivity to remote regions). The survey is applied to the Metropolitan area of Lisbon and 207 responses were gathered. The collected data was analysed through correlation analysis and non-parametric tests. Conclusions are made on perceptions of citizens over different adoption and embracement levels.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Extension of PRISM by Synthesis of Optimal Timeouts in Fixed-Delay CTMC

We present a practically appealing extension of the probabilistic model checker PRISM rendering it to handle fixed-delay continuous-time Markov chains (fdCTMCs) with rewards, the equivalent formalism to the deterministic and stochastic Petri nets (DSPNs). fdCTMCs allow transitions with fixed-delays (or timeouts) on top of the traditional transitions with exponential rates. Our extension supports an evaluation of expected reward until reaching a given set of target states. The main contribution is that, considering the fixed-delays as parameters, we implemented a synthesis algorithm that computes the epsilon-optimal values of the fixed-delays minimizing the expected reward. We provide a performance evaluation of the synthesis on practical examples

Renormalization Group calculations with k|| dependent couplings in a ladder

We calculate the phase diagram of a ladder system, with a Hubbard interaction and an interchain coupling tt_\perp. We use a Renormalization Group method, in a one loop expansion, introducing an original method to include kk_{||} dependence of couplings. We also classify the order parameters corresponding to ladder instabilities. We obtain different results, depending on whether we include kk_{||} dependence or not. When we do so, we observe a region with large antiferromagnetic fluctuations, in the vicinity of small tt_\perp, followed by a superconducting region with a simultaneous divergence of the Spin Density Waves channel. We also investigate the effect of a non local backward interchain scattering : we observe, on one hand, the suppression of singlet superconductivity and of Spin Density Waves, and, on the other hand, the increase of Charge Density Waves and, for some values of tt_\perp, of triplet superconductivity. Our results eventually show that kk_{||} is an influential variable in the Renormalization Group flow, for this kind of systems.Comment: 20 pages, 19 figures, accepted in Phys. Rev. B 71 v. 2
