Mutations Of Androgen Receptor Gene In Brazilian Patients With Male Pseudohermaphroditism.
We describe the identification of point mutations in the androgen receptor gene in five Brazilian patients with female assignment and behavior. The eight exons of the gene were amplified by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and analyzed for single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) to detect the mutations. Direct sequencing of the mutant PCR products demonstrated single transitions in three of these cases: G-->A in case 1, within exon C, changing codon 615 from Arg to His; G-->A in case 2, within exon E, changing codon 752 from Arg to Gln, and C-->T in case 3, within exon B, but without amino acid change.31775-

Absorbed-dose-to-water measurement using alanine in ultra-high-pulse-dose-rate electron beams
: Objective. The aim of the presented study is to evaluate the dose response of the PTB's secondary standard system, which is based on alanine and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy measurement, in ultra-high-pulse-dose-rate (UHPDR) electron beams.Approach. The alanine dosimeter system was evaluated in the PTB's UHPDR electron beams (20 MeV) in a range of 0.15-6.2 Gy per pulse. The relationship between the obtained absorbed dose to water per pulse and the in-beamline charge measurement of the electron pulses acquired using an integrating current transformer (ICT) was evaluated. Monte Carlo simulations were used to determine the beam quality conversion and correction factors required to perform alanine dosimetry.Main results. The beam quality conversion factor from the reference quality60Co to 20 MeV obtained by Monte Carlo simulation, 1.010(1), was found to be within the standard uncertainty of the consensus value, 1.014(5). The dose-to-water relative standard uncertainty was determined to be 0.68% in PTB's UHPDR electron beams.Significance. In this investigation, the dose-response of the PTB's alanine dosimeter system was evaluated in a range of dose per pulse between 0.15 Gy and 6.2 Gy and no evidence of dose-response dependency of the PTB's secondary standard system based on alanine was observed. The alanine/ESR system was shown to be a precise dosimetry system for evaluating absorbed dose to water in UHPDR electron beams

Dosimetry for new radiation therapy approaches using high energy electron accelerators
We have performed dosimetry studies using electron beams with energies up to 50 MeV, which exceed current clinical energy ranges and approaches the bottom end of the very high energy electron range. 50 MeV electron beams can reach deep-seated tumors. In contrast to photon beams, electron beams can be generated with ultra-high dose rates by linear accelerators, which could enable FLASH radiotherapy of deep-seated tumors. The response of radiochromic film and alanine is compared with dose measurements using an ionisation chamber. Energy dependence is not observed within the measurement uncertainty in the investigated energy range from 15 to 50 MeV
The trehalose coating effect on the internal protein dynamics
15N and 13C NMR experiments were applied to conduct a comparative study of a cold shock protein (Csp) in two states - lyophilized powder and a protein embedded in a glassy trehalose matrix. Both samples were studied at various levels of rehydration. The experiments used (measuring relaxation rates R 1 and R 1ρ, motionally averaged dipolar couplings and solid state exchange method detecting reorientation of the chemical shift anisotropy tensor) allow obtaining abundant information on the protein structural features and internal motions in a range of correlation times from nanoseconds to seconds. The main results are: (a) the trehalose coating makes the protein structure more native in comparison with the dehydrated lyophilized powder, however, trehalose still cannot remove all non-native hydrogen bonds which are present in a dehydrated protein; (b) trehalose has an appreciable effect on the internal dynamics: the motion of the backbone N-H groups in the nanosecond and microsecond time scales becomes slower while the motional amplitude remains constant; (c) upon adding water to the Csp-trehalose mixture, water molecules accumulate around proteins forming a layer between the protein surface and the trehalose matrix. The protein dynamics become faster, however, not as fast as in the fully hydrated state; (d) the hydration response of dynamics of the NH and CH(CH 2) groups in a protein is qualitatively different: upon increasing protein hydration, the correlation times of the N-H motions become shorter and the amplitude remains stable, and for CH(CH 2) groups the motional amplitude increases and the correlation times do not change. This can be explained by a different ability of the NH and CH(CH 2) groups to form hydrogen bonds. © the Owner Societies 2012

The instantaneous relative entropy (IRE) and the corresponding instanta-
neous Fisher information matrix (IFIM) for transient stochastic processes are
pre- sented in this paper. These novel tools for sensitivity analysis of
stochastic models serve as an extension of the well known relative entropy rate
(RER) and the corre- sponding Fisher information matrix (FIM) that apply to
stationary processes. Three cases are studied here, discrete-time Markov
chains, continuous-time Markov chains and stochastic differential equations. A
