Basin structure in the two-dimensional dissipative circle map
Fractal basin structure in the two-dimensional dissipative circle map is
examined in detail. Numerically obtained basin appears to be riddling in the
parameter region where two periodic orbits co-exist near a boundary crisis, but
it is shown to consist of layers of thin bands.Comment: published in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn., 72, 1943-1947 (2003
Vancomycin-resistant enterococci colonization in patients with hematological malignancies: screening and its cost-effectiveness
Background and objective: We evaluated the rates of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) colonization and VRE related bacteremia in patients with hematological malignancies in terms of routine screening culture and its cost-effectiveness.Materials and Methods: All patients of the hematology department who were older than 14 years of age and who developed at least one febrile neutropenia episode during chemotherapy for hematological cancers between November 2010 and November 2012 were evaluated retrospectively. Results: We retrospectively analyzed 282 febrile episodes in 126 neutropenic patients during a two-year study period. The study included 65 cases in the first study-year and 78 cases in the second study-year. The numbers of colonization days and colonized patient were 748 days of colonization in 29 patients (44%) in the first study-year and 547 colonization days in 21 patients (26%) in the second study-year, respectively. Routine screening culture for VRE cost 5082,7 (504 cultures) in the second study-year depending on the number of patients and their length of stay. Conclusion: In line with our study results, routine screening of hematological patients for VRE colonization is not costeffective. Routine surveillance culture for VRE should be considered with respect to the conditions of health care setting. Keywords: Hematological patients, febrile neutropenia, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, vancomycin-sensitive enterococci, bacteremia, colonization

The effect of dyeing properties of fixing agent and plasma treatment on silk fabric dyed with natural dye extract obtained from Sambucus Ebulus L. Plant
Bu çalışma, 28-30 Mayıs 2015 tarihleri arasında İstanbul[Türkiye]’da düzenlenen World Conference on Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship’da bildiri olarak sunulmuştur. In this study, the natural dye extracted from the fruits of Sambucus Ebulus L. (Dwarf Elder) was used to dye silk fabric. Prior to the dyeing process, the samples were exposed to oxygen plasma pre-treatment at low frequency for 1 and 5 minutes. Following the plasma pre-treatment, the samples were dyed with the natural dye by the use of conventional and microwave dyeing methods. After dyeing procedure, the samples were treated with three different fixing agents. Finally, the effect of plasma pre-treatment and microwave energy, and type of fixing agent as a dyeing procedure on colour fastness to light, rubbing and washing and also the colour strength of the samples were investigated. According to the results, the increase on plasma treatment time and microwave energy increased the colour strength of samples. The fixing agent treatment did not affect much as the colour fastness properties of dyed samples
