Self-medication prevalence and related factors among medical university students, 2015
Background: Self-medication is one of the main health problems. Given the high prevalence of self-medicationin society and between students, the aim of this study was to assess the rate of self-medication among Ardabil medical students.Methods: This cross–sectional study has been done on 150 students which selected randomly from Ardabil Medical University Science students. Data collected by a questionnaire and then analyzed by statistical method in SPSS.19.Results: The rate of self-medication among students was 65%. Most of usage drug was sedatives with 77.1%. 7.2% of students were prepared drugs from places other than pharmacies and most of self-medication was the existence of drug free market with 71%.Conclusions: Given the high prevalence of self-medication among students it is necessary to promote a culture of drug use among students, education in the field of self-medication and its side effects are given to students
The Relationship between chronic low back pain and sleep pattern (using data derived from the Persian cohort; Fasa(
Background & objective: Chronic low back pain is one of the most common disorders associated with chronic pain that is correlated with a wide range of psychological issue such as problems in sleep pattern. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between sleep pattern and chronic low back pain.
Materials & Methods: The research method was cross-sectional- descriptive–analytic and the statistical populations were residents of Sheshdeh of Fars province. Among them 1,366 people participated in the study by convenience sampling method. The instrument included a questionnaire of Persian cohort, Oswestry inventory and McGill Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS . V-24 software.
Results: 90.9% of the subjects were male and 39.09% were female. The results showed that there is a reverse relationship between the LBPŘŚ pattern and the quality of sleep, and with the increase in pain, the amount of sleep decreases.
 Conclusion: results of this study indicate that the quality of sleep should be considered in treatment of patients with chronic pain, especially those with chronic LBP
Prevalence of Low Back Pain and Lifestyle Risk Factors in Opioid Users and Non-Opioid Drug Users in Fasa Persian Cohort Population
Background & Objective: Low back pain is a common complaint that many people face throughout their lives. It is one of the most costly health problems. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of low back pain and risk factors for lifestyle in opioid users and non-opioid drug users in the population of Fasa Persian cohort.
Materials & Methods: The research method was cross-sectional-descriptive-analytical and the statistical population of the study was the residents of Sheshdeh in Fars province among whom 10,000 people were selected by census method. The instrument used was a national cohort questionnaire and in order to analyze the data, descriptive statistical tests, chi-square, independent t-test as well as logistic regression were used to model and estimate the odds ratio (OR) in SPSS24 software.
Results: The results showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between low back pain and opium, hookah, cigarette and alcohol consumption (P <0.000). With increasing one year of age, the chance of low back pain increases 1.02 times (CI = 1.019-01.191, OR = 1.02). Also, women have 1.67 times more chance of low back pain (CI = 1.44 / 1.94, 67 OR = 1.1) Moreover, people who smoke hookah have 1.43 times more back pain (CI = 0.526-0.92, OR = 1.43). The chance of low back pain in people who sneeze is 2.50 times higher (CI = 1.34-3.67, OR = 2.50). The chance of low back pain in people who smoke is 1.20 times higher (CI = 1.03-1.032 / C1, OR = 1.20) and with an increase in BMI, the chance of low back pain in people increases by 1.017 times (029 / 1-017 / 1 = CI, 017/1 = OR).
Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that there is no difference between opioid (opium) and non-opioid drugs (cigarettes, hookah, nasal sprays and alcohol) with low back pain and these substances decreased calcium levels due to their effect on the musculoskeletal system and increased bone mass density and eventually lead to low back pain in consumers
Investigating the Relationship between Low-Back Pain and Physical Activity in Different Occupations: A Study of Fasa Cohort
Background & objective: Chronic low-back pain is one of the most common disorders associated with chronic pain and is one of the costliest health care problems. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between back pain and physical activity in different occupations.
Materials & Methods: The research method was cross-sectional, descriptive-analytic and the statistical population of the study was the residents of Shashdeh in the city of Fasa in Fars province among whom 10,000 people were selected by census method. The instrument used was a national cohort questionnaire. To analyze the data, descriptive statistical tests, chi-square, independent t-test as well as logistic regression were used to model and estimate the odds ratio (OR) in SPSS-24 software.
Results: The mean and standard deviation of age of the participants in the study was 48.64 (9.57) and 54.8% of the study population were women. There was a significant difference between gender and low-back pain (P <0.000). With increasing one year of age, the chance of low-back pain increases 1.025 times (CI = 1.019 / 1.019 / 1.01, OR = 1.025). and people with heavy work status were 1.52 times more likely to have low-back pain compared with housewives (CI = 1.255 / 1-253, OR = 1.52)

Conclusion: Based on the results, it is suggested that intervention measures be taken to prevent low-back pain so that these disorders can be controlled in the future. Also, by training all people to perform physical activity and the principles of ergonomics in the workplace, it helps to improve the physical and mental health of people and causes better performance
Anxiety but not depression is associated with metabolic syndrome: The Isfahan healthy heart program
Background: Only a few studies have carried out to evaluate the association of depression and anxiety with metabolic syndrome (MetS). The aim of this study was to investigate whether the depression and anxiety are associated with MetS and its different components. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study forms part of the prospective Isfahan Cohort Study. A total of 470 participants were chosen. Anxiety and depression symptoms were measured using hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). The MetS was diagnosed according to the American Heart Association and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. One-way analysis of variance and binary logistic regression were used. Results: The mean age of participants was 55.7 ± 9.3. The prevalence of MetS in female participants with symptoms of depression (P < 0.0001), concurrent anxiety and depression (P = 0.004), anxiety (P < 0.0001), and asymptomatic individuals (P = 0.001) was significantly different when compared to male participants. Moreover, the analysis showed that having anxiety symptoms is in a negative relationship with MetS (odds ratio [OR] = 0.31; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.12–0.78). In addition, with each 10-year increase in age, the probability of MetS will decrease 40% (OR = 0.59; 95%Cl = 0.53–0.72). Body mass index (OR = 1.29; 95%CI = 1.21–1.37), and gender (higher age for women) (OR = 0.34; 95%CI = 0.11–0.98) had positive relationship with MetS. Conclusion: The study findings revealed that the prevalence of MetS in patients with anxiety was lower than the healthy subjects, while no significant association was found between depression, concurrent depression, an anxiety with MetS
Protein-Protein Interaction Network Analysis and Drug Repurposing for Uveal Melanoma Patients: Drug Repurposing for Uveal Melanoma
Background: Uveal melanoma is the most prevalent melanoma in adults. This malignancy arises from melanocytes. Patients with uveal melanoma were investigated according to their metastases and non-metastases status to propose candidate drugs.
Material and Methods: The studied data set included 63 patients (24 females and 39 males), among whom 35 patients were with metastases and 28 patients were without metastases. By comparing the metastases and non-metastases cases, 2000 genes were chosen as practical genes. A co-expression network was constructed, and protein complexes were extracted to find effective gene modules. Then drug-gene networks were constructed to find essential drugs.
Results: The STRING database was utilized to construct a co-expression network. Then, protein complexes were extracted using the MCODE clustering algorithm. Four meaningful modules were chosen for the next step. Afterward, drug-gene subnetworks were constructed and illustrated, and high degree drugs were chosen as effective drugs for this disease.
Conclusion: As a result, 12 important drugs were introduced as the proposed candidate drugs. By detailed investigation of the obtained results, drugs that were not previously reported were introduced as new drugs, which would be studied experimentally in future works. These were Bortezomib, Oprozomib, Clofarabine, ME-344 and NV-128
Fasa Registry on Acute Myocardial Infarction (FaRMI): Feasibility Study and Pilot Phase Results.
Myocardial infarction (MI) is the leading cause of death in Iran. Every attempt to improve treatment patterns and patient outcomes needs a surveillance system to both consider the efficacy and safety measures. Fasa Registry on Myocardial Infarction (FaRMI) is the first population-based registry for acute MI in Iran targeted to provide meticulous description of patients' characteristics, to explore the management patterns of these patients, to discover the degree of adherence to the practice guidelines, and to investigate the determinants of poor in-hospital and later outcomes.A diagnosis of acute MI (type I, II and III) was made upon the accepted criteria by the attending cardiologists and types IV and V MI were excluded. Two registrar nurses gathered data on demographics, place of residence and ethnicity, past medical history, risk factors, and the clinical course. Management patterns in the pre-hospital setting, during the hospital stay and at the discharge time were recorded. Routine laboratory results and cardiac biomarkers on three consecutive days were registered.pilot phase included the first 95 patients, 63.5% of whom were men and 31.5% were women. With a mean age of 62.89±13.75 years among participants, the rate of premature MI was 31.8%. ST segment elevation MI accounted for 68.2% cases and inferior wall was the most prevalent region involved followed by anterior and posterior walls.Obtained data on the characteristics of patients suffering an MI event revealed the major determinants of delay in initiation of therapies and contributors of poor outcome. Completeness of data was guaranteed upon involvement of multiple checkpoints and data quality was secured by means of automatic validation processes in addition to weekly physicians' roundups.Execution of FaRMI in the form presented is feasible and it will build up a comprehensive population-based registry for MI in the region
