Cheating in the Digital Age of Art
Editor\u27s note: This paper was named Best Persuasive Essay, which included a $100 award.
I wrote this piece for my research assignment in English 198. The course topic was cheating, and my paper delves into the morality behind the reuse of artistic ideas. I use five scholarly articles to support my argument that artistic reproductions should be encouraged and the current legal systems require a change. My writing process included multiple drafts, peer review, and a review with my professor

Increasing the Use of Practical Activities through Changed Practice
This study sets out to examine the influence of a value-based intervention on two elementary school teachers’ use of practical activities in mathematics teaching. The intervention was a “Values and Knowledge Education” (VaKE)-based in-service course that introduced the two teachers to a value-based approach to mathematics teaching. The introduction included examples that were supported by use of practical activities. Interviews prior to the intervention made the teachers aware of an inconsistency between the desired and actual practice of their own teaching. The intervention provided them with a possibility of narrowing the gap between vision and practice by changing practice. Qualitative data show how the VaKE approach offered an alternative that opened up for increased use of practical activities in the teaching of mathematics, but also showed how good intentions of changing practice might be restrained or hindered by beliefs and previous experience
Yksi oleellisimmista asioista suunniteltaessa hyvinvointiteknologian laitteita on huomioida käyttäjät suunnittelussa alusta alkaen. The goal of the thesis was to determine, which mobile phone properties are the most important for senior users and to design a prototype of a modern mobile phone for seniors, based on these results.
In addition to literary material, this work is based on interview material from an innovation project, which was carried out in fall 2011. The following topics are discussed in the theoretical part of the thesis: design process, user study, design standards, existing mobile phones for seniors and age-related cognitive and physiological changes.
Based on the reference material and the results of the interviews, a 3D prototype was designed and printed with a 3D-printer. Finally, the prototype was compared to Doro PhoneEasy 610, a commercial mobile phone for seniors, in order to assess the ergonomic and visual properties of the prototype.
On average, the interviewees were satisfied with the prototype, but also gave valuable advice for further development of the mobile phone. The big size of the display and the clear user interface were found to be the strengths of the prototype. Criticized properties were the small size of the SOS button and tight packing of buttons and button symbols. The interviewees were negatively biased towards touch screen displays, but after an initial introduction to them found them to be a fast and clear solution.
Considering the users is one of the key points in designing Health Informatics related devices. Multiple standards and design instructions have been developed, but the best result is achieved by listening to the users. The standards have usually been developed for average users and they are not completely applicable when designing devices for special user
groups, such as elderly people.Työhön sisältyy 3D-tulostettu prototyyppi
