    ANALYSING ROLES OF POSITION IN CURLING BASED ON SHOTSCORES

    This paper reports on the analysis of the characteristics for each position based on shot-scores in curling. We computed average shot-scores for each position from 26 curling game information, and analyzed the correlation between the differences in average shot-scores and the differences in final game scores. The results show that strong correlations appeared for the position of the lead and the fourth, and weak correlations for the second and the third. It indicates that the roles of the lead and the fourth relate to game score directly, but the roles of the second and the third relate to the game progress. We were able to confirm the relationship between the score and each position of the target team

    We study the mass spectrum of superparticles within supersymmetric grand unified models. For gaugino masses, it is pointed out that the GUT-relation in the SU(5)SU(5) model is applicable to a more general case where a grand-unified gauge group breaks down to the standard model gauge group by several steps. We also show that the mass spectrum of squarks and sleptons carries the information on the breaking pattern of the gauge symmetry. It is demonstrated in some SO(10)SO(10) models how the scalar mass spectrum distinguishes various SO(10)SO(10) breaking patterns from each other.Comment: LaTeX file, 11 pages, 5 PostScript figures, appended in uuencoded format.     A generalised methodology for analytic construction of 1:1 resonances around irregular bodies: Application to the asteroid Ryugu’s ejecta dynamics

    An analytic construction of 1:1 resonances around irregular bodies is here investigated. A SPH-Mas based gravity model allows a semi-analytic expression of the linearised equations around the equilibrium points. Depending on the sphere packing distribution, the SPH-Mas model can retrieve the same dynamical objects common to others gravity models (i.e. spherical harmonics and polyhedron) or for non uniform density objects. This model has the advantage to define the same particles mesh distribution for both astrophysical and astrodynamics tools and it is computationally optimised for Matlab. The Hayabusa2’s Small Carry-on Impactor operation is used as a scenario to study the ejecta particle dynamics around an irregular body. The goNEAR tool was used to simulate the impact operation in a non-linear sense when the effect of the solar radiation pressure perturbation is taken into account for particles size of 10 cm, 5 cm, 1 cm and 1 mm in diameter

    A gastropod from a deep-sea hydrothermal field at the Rodriguez triple junction, Indian Ocean, has scale-shaped structures, called sclerites, mineralized with iron sulfides on its foot. No other organisms are known to produce a skeleton consisting of iron sulfides. To investigate whether iron sulfide mineralization is mediated by the gastropod for the function of the sclerites, we performed a detailed physical and chemical characterization. Nanostructural characterization of the iron sulfide sclerites reveals that the iron sulfide minerals pyrite (FeS2) and greigite (Fe3S4) form with unique crystal habits inside and outside of the organic matrix, respectively. The magnetic properties of the sclerites, which are mostly consistent with those predicted from their nanostructual features, are not optimized for magnetoreception and instead support use of the magnetic minerals as structural elements. The mechanical performance of the sclerites is superior to that of other biominerals used in the vent environment for predation as well as protection from predation. These characteristics, as well as the co-occurrence of brachyuran crabs, support the inference that the mineralization of iron sulfides might be controlled by the gastropod to harden the sclerites for protection from predators. Sulfur and iron isotopic analyses indicate that sulfur and iron in the sclerites originate from hydrothermal fluids rather than from bacterial metabolites, and that iron supply is unlikely to be regulated by the gastropod for iron sulfide mineralization. We propose that the gastropod may control iron sulfide mineralization by modulating the internal concentrations of reduced sulfur compounds

    Establishing a nu_{mu,tau} Component in the Solar Neutrino Flux

    We point out that the recoil electron kinetic energy spectra in the nu-e elastic scattering are different for incident nu_{e} or nu_{mu,tau}, and hence one can in principle establish the existence of the nu_{mu,tau} component in the solar neutrino flux by fitting the shape of the spectrum. This would be a new model-independent test of the solar neutrino oscillation in a single experiment, free from astrophysical and nuclear physics uncertainties. For the ^7Be neutrinos, it is possible to determine the nu_{mu,tau} component at BOREXINO or KamLAND, if the background is sufficiently low. Note that this effect is different from the distortion in the incident neutrino energy spectrum, which has been discussed in the literature.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, uses psfig.
