This paper estimates empirical relations between saving rates and their economic and demographic determinants in Chile. Using annual data for 1960-1997, the paper analyzes saving aggregates by economic agents or sectors: aggregate private-sector saving, corporate and household saving, and public-sector saving. A reduced-form specification of saving rates is used, based on recent consumption and saving theories. Sector offsets are also addressed, including testing for Ricardian Equivalence, household piercing of the corporate veil, and voluntary-mandatory household saving offset. The estimation technique is based on a recent methodology proposed by Pesaran (1997) and Pesaran and Shin (1997) that allows for estimating long-run relations between stationary and integrated variables. In addition to applying a novel estimation technique, this paper makes uses of recent sector saving data made available for Chile. In addition alternative saving measures are used that are consistent with sector changes in net worth. The latter adjust conventional saving measures for consumption expenditure on durable goods, education expenditure, and capital losses from inflation suffered by holders of monetary assets.

Towards conformant models of automated electric vehicles

Automated driving is one of the major tendencies in last decades, and it is presented as a reliable option to improve comfort during driving, including disable and elder in society and increasing persons safety in roads. This last topic produces the question how is it possible to verify planning and control algorithms for a reliable commercial use of this technology. The question can be answered from two perspective: experimental or formal methods, where the formal one is selected as the most robust between both. Hence, the current work presents a case study verification in automated driving for lane change and double lane change maneuvers, using as basis a trace conformance method presented in [1]. The verification method is performed in Dynacar as a precise multibody simulator tuned for a commercial Renault Twizy vehicle.H2020 UnCoVerCPS Project with grant number 643921

Revisiting the 3{\alpha} reaction rates in helium burning stars

Helium burning is one of the most fundamental steps of stellar nucleosynthesis, as it describes the formation of life-determining element of carbon, while it plays a key role in the evolution of Red Giant, accreting White Dwarfs and Neutron Stars. In this work we develop a generalized statistical theory for the 3{\alpha} reaction, which is based on the use of the Imaginary Time Method, along with the semi-classical Hybrid {\alpha}-Clustering (H{\alpha}C) and Neck Model (NM) frameworks. The results compared to the methodology and data of the NACRE collaboration, following in several orders of magnitude discrepancies, especially at low temperatures. This may be crucial for the early dynamics of helium burning stars.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

COMPARISON OF VARIOUS EPSON SMART GLASSES IN TERMS OF REAL FUNCTIONALITY AND CAPABILITIES

    Get PDF
The article presents some experiences with the smart glasses developed by Epson, namely Movrio BT-200, BT-300 and BT-2000. We conclude that they are on the right track, good devices, however, are still in an incipient, before the market stage and need a lot of technical (both hardware and software) improvements to be up to the needs of the real market

Molecular characterization of two AP2/ERF transcription factor genes from Egyptian tomato cultivar (Edkawy)

    Get PDF
The tomato is ranked first amongst vegetable crops in Egypt in relation to surface area and production. The Egyptian tomato cultivar Edkawy has shown abiotic stress tolerance characteristics. However, there is not much information about the molecular characterization of this cultivar. Furthermore, information regarding the identification of abiotic stress tolerance genes from the Edkawy tomato cultivar is lacking. Here, we investigated the ability of the Edkawy cultivar to tolerate drought stress. Two varieties were used as a control in this study; Peto86 (sensitive variety) and Strain B (tolerant variety). Edkawy, Peto86 and Strain B varieties were exposed to drought stress by reducing the water supply gradually. Interestingly, Edkawy demonstrated a remarkable tolerance phenotype to drought stress. Furthermore, we identified and isolated two members of the AP2/ERF transcription factor family from Edkawy which are associated with abiotic stress, particularly drought, i.e. ERF1 and ERF5. Protein prediction, validation and active site prediction of ERF1 and ERF5 were also determined. In addition to the domain obtained by the pfam online tool, the interaction between Edkawy ERFs proteins and other proteins in the Solanaceae family was obtained. Furthermore, subcellular localization was determined by the ngLOC and Plant-mPLoc online tools. Characterization of the Edkawy tomato cultivar and isolation and identification of such transcription factors will help in the engineering of tomato plants with abiotic stress tolerance

Fasciola hepatica IN BOVINES IN BRAZIL: DATA AVAILABILITY AND SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION

    Get PDF
Fasciolosis is a disease of importance for both veterinary and public health. For the first time, georeferenced prevalence data of Fasciola hepatica in bovines were collected and mapped for the Brazilian territory and data availability was discussed. Bovine fasciolosis in Brazil is monitored on a Federal, State and Municipal level, and to improve monitoring it is essential to combine the data collected on these three levels into one dataset. Data were collected for 1032 municipalities where livers were condemned by the Federal Inspection Service (MAPA/SIF) because of the presence of F. hepatica. The information was distributed over 11 states: Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Pará, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo. The highest prevalence of fasciolosis was observed in the southern states, with disease clusters along the coast of Paraná and Santa Catarina and in Rio Grande do Sul. Also, temporal variation of the prevalence was observed. The observed prevalence and the kriged prevalence maps presented in this paper can assist both animal and human health workers in estimating the risk of infection in their state or municipality
