Center or Limit Cycle: Renormalization Group as a Probe
Based on our studies done on two-dimensional autonomous systems, forced
non-autonomous systems and time-delayed systems, we propose a unified
methodology - that uses renormalization group theory - for finding out
existence of periodic solutions in a plethora of nonlinear dynamical systems
appearing across disciplines. The technique will be shown to have a non-trivial
ability of classifying the solutions into limit cycles and periodic orbits
surrounding a center. Moreover, the methodology has a definite advantage over
linear stability analysis in analyzing centers
Study on TBCs insulation characteristics of a turbine blade under serving conditions
AbstractIt is a key problem to study thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) insulation and followed stresses for the coated blade. This article focused on the insulation characteristics of TBCs by coupling heat transfer and flow with a multilayer blade. We found that the coated blade can benefit more in the decline of average temperature than the decline of maximum temperature, compared to the uncoated case. Temperature fluctuation on TBCs surface is evident. The inlet temperature of main flow (Tin) more than the heat transfer coefficient of cooling passages (hcool) impacted the fluctuation. And there is a non-homogeneous distribution of the temperature decline (ΔT) across the coatings around the blade. At the suction side and the head, ΔT was generally higher than that of the pressure side and the tail. The TBCs thickness and Tin can affect ΔT more than hcool. We suggest that in the sequential TBCs stresses simulation the actual temperature distribution should be prescribed
CP Violation in Fermion Pair Decays of Neutral Boson Particles
We study CP violation in fermion pair decays of neutral boson particles with
spin 0 or 1. We study a new asymmetry to measure CP violation in decays and discuss the possibility of measuring it
experimentally. For the spin-1 particles case, we study CP violation in the
decays of to octet baryon pairs. We show that these decays can
be used to put stringent constraints on the electric dipole moments of

Cosmological Constraints on the Sign-Changeable Interactions
Recently, Cai and Su [Phys. Rev. D {\bf 81}, 103514 (2010)] found that the
sign of interaction in the dark sector changed in the approximate redshift
range of 0.45\,\lsim\, z\,\lsim\, 0.9, by using a model-independent method to
deal with the observational data. In fact, this result raises a remarkable
problem, since most of the familiar interactions cannot change their signs in
the whole cosmic history. Motivated by the work of Cai and Su, we have proposed
a new type of interaction in a previous work [H. Wei, Nucl. Phys. B {\bf 845},
381 (2011)]. The key ingredient is the deceleration parameter in the
interaction , and hence the interaction can change its sign when our
universe changes from deceleration () to acceleration (). In the
present work, we consider the cosmological constraints on this new type of
sign-changeable interactions, by using the latest observational data. We find
that the cosmological constraints on the model parameters are fairly tight. In

Decay Modes of Unstable Strings in Plane-Wave String Field Theory
The cubic interaction vertex of light-cone string field theory in the
plane-wave background has a simple effective form when considering states with
only bosonic excitations. This simple effective interaction vertex is used in
this paper to calculate the three string interaction matrix elements for states
of arbitrary bosonic excitation and these results are used to examine certain
decay modes on the mass-shell. It is shown that the matrix elements of one
string to two string decays involving only bosonic excitations will vanish to
all orders in 1/mu on the mass-shell when the number of excitations on the
initial string is less than or equal to two, but in general will not vanish
when the number of excitations is greater than two. Also, a truncated
calculation of the mass-shell matrix elements for one string to three string
decays of two excitation states is performed and suggests that these matrix
elements do not vanish on the mass-shell. There is, however, a quantitative
discrepancy between this last result and its (also non-vanishing) gauge theory

Surface reconstruction of wear in carpets by using a wavelet edge detector
Carpet manufacturers have wear labels assigned to their products by human experts who evaluate carpet samples subjected to accelerated wear in a test device. There is considerable industrial and academic interest in going from human to automated evaluation, which should be less cumbersome and more objective. In this paper, we present image analysis research on videos of carpet surfaces scanned with a 3D laser. The purpose is obtaining good depth Images for an automated system that should have a high percentage of correct assessments for a wide variety of carpets. The innovation is the use of a wavelet edge detector to obtain a more continuously defined surface shape. The evaluation is based on how well the algorithms allow a good linear ranking and a good discriminance of consecutive wear labels. The results show an improved linear ranking for most carpet types, for two carpet types the results are quite significant
X-ray image reconstruction from a diffraction pattern alone
A solution to the inversion problem of scattering would offer aberration-free
diffraction-limited 3D images without the resolution and depth-of-field
limitations of lens-based tomographic systems. Powerful algorithms are
increasingly being used to act as lenses to form such images. Current image
reconstruction methods, however, require the knowledge of the shape of the
object and the low spatial frequencies unavoidably lost in experiments.
Diffractive imaging has thus previously been used to increase the resolution of
images obtained by other means. We demonstrate experimentally here a new
inversion method, which reconstructs the image of the object without the need

In the study of CP violation signals in {\O}\to\pi\Xi nonleptonic decays,
the strong =3/2 and phase shifts for the final-state
interactions are needed. These phases are calculated using an effective
Lagrangian model, including , (1530), and the -term,
in the intermediate states. The -term is calculated in terms of the
