Post freeze-out annihilations in the early universe

We investigate the possible effect of the residual annihilations of heavy particles after freeze-out from equilibrium in the early universe. An error in previous work on this subject is pointed out and the correct method of solving the Boltzmann equation for this case is developed. Study of the winter 2005 Antarctica polar vortex

During winter and springtime, the flow above Antarctica at high altitude (upper troposphere and stratosphere) is dominated by the presence of a vortex centered above the continent. It lasts typically from August to November. This vortex is characterized by a strong cyclonic jet centered above the polar high. In a recent study of our group (Hagelin et al., 2008) of four different sites in the Antarctic internal plateau (South Pole, Dome C, Dome A and Dome F), it was made the hypothesis that the wind speed strength in the upper atmosphere should be related to the distance of the site to the center of the Antarctic polar vortex. This high altitude wind is very important from an astronomical point of view since it might trigger the onset of the optical turbulence and strongly affect other optical turbulence parameters. What we are interested in here is to localize the position of the minimum value of the wind speed at high altitude in order to confirm the hypothesis of Hagelin et al. Inclusive CP Asymmetries in Semileptonic Decays of B Mesons

We estimate the sensitivity of single lepton CP violation measurements with respect to that of traditional di-lepton measurements. We find that the sensitivity of the single lepton method is better than that of the di-lepton method. The achievable sensitivity with the currently available data is already in the range relevant to standard model predictions. We also give general expressions for inclusive decay time distributions on $\Upsilon 4S$ where the other $B$ is not measured, which will be used to obtain time dependent asymmetries. The expression is of general use whenever one deals with inclusive time-dependent as well as time-integrated measurements in $\Upsilon(4S)\to B^0\bar B^0$ where the final state of the other $B$ is not reconstructed or when only the time difference is measured.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure. A dedicated tool for a full 3D Cn2 investigation

We present in this study a mapping of the optical turbulence (OT) above different astronomical sites. The mesoscale model Meso-NH was used together with the Astro-Meso-Nh package and a set of diagnostic tools allowing for a full 3D investigation of the Cn2. The diagnostics implemented in the Astro-Meso-Nh, allowing for a full 3D investigation of the OT structure in a volumetric space above different sites, are presented. To illustrate the different diagnostics and their potentialities, we investigated one night and looked at instantaneous fields of meteorologic and astroclimatic parameters. To show the potentialities of this tool for applications in an Observatory we ran the model above sites with very different OT distributions: the antarctic plateau (Dome C, Dome A, South Pole) and a mid-latitude site (Mt. Graham, Arizona). We put particular emphasis on the 2D maps of integrated astroclimatic parameters (seeing, isoplanatic angles) calculated in different slices at different heights in the troposhere. This is an useful tool of prediction and investigation of the turbulence structure. It can support the optimization of the AO, GLAO and MCAO systems running at the focus of the ground-based telescopes.From this studies it emerges that the astronomical sites clearly present different OT behaviors.
