For which clinical rules do doctors want decision support, and why? A survey of Dutch general practitioners.
Despite the promise of decision support for improving care, alerts are often overridden or ignored. We evaluated Dutch general practitioners’ intention to accept decision support in a proposed implementation based on clinical rules regarding care for elderly patients, and their reasons for wanting or not wanting support. We developed a survey based on literature and structured interviews and distributed it to all doctors who would receive support in the proposed implementation (n = 43), of which 65 percent responded. The survey consisted of six questions for each of 20 clinical rules. Despite concerns about interruption, doctors tended to choose more interruptive forms of support. Doctors wanted support when they felt the rule represented minimal care, perceived a need to improve care, and felt responsible for the action and that they might forget to perform the action; doctors declined support due to feeling that it was unnecessary and due to concerns about interruption
The normalisation of drug supply: The socialsupplyof drugs as the “other side” of the history of normalisation
Aims: Describes how the relative normalisation of recreational drug use in the UK has been productive of, and fused with, the relatively normalised and non-commercial social supply of recreational drugs. Methods: Semi-structured interviews with 60 social suppliers of recreational drugs in two studies (involving a student population n = 30 and general population sample n = 30). Respondents were recruited via purposive snowball sampling and local advertising. Findings: Both samples provided strong evidence of the normalised supply of recreational drugs in micro-sites of friendship and close social networks. Many social suppliers described “drift” into social supply and normalised use was suggested to be productive of supply relationships that both suppliers and consumers regard as something less than “real” dealing in order to reinforce their preconceptions of themselves as relatively non-deviant. Some evidence for a broader acceptance of social supply is also presented. Conclusions: The fairly recent context of relative normalisation of recreational drug use has coalesced with the social supply of recreational drugs in micro-sites of use and exchange whereby a range of “social” supply acts (sometimes even involving large amounts of drugs/money) have become accepted as something closer to gift-giving or friendship exchange dynamics within social networks rather than dealing proper. To some degree, there is increasing sensitivity to this within the criminal justice system
Shifts in Governmentality, Territoriality and Governance: An Introduction
This introductory chapter discusses the relationship between state
governance and specific forms of policy making in the light of three major kind of
changes, in governmentality, territoriality and governance itself. Our basic assertion
is that policy-specific developments are not just derivative but co-constitutive of
broader discourses and practices, such as associated with the rise of neo-liberalism
and multi-actor, multi-level governance. We then introduce the way we will
explore our questions in the remainder of the book
Seston composition and the potential for Daphnia growth
A field survey was conducted to study the relationships amongst the composition of the seston, the nutritional value of the seston for herbivorous zooplankton (Daphnia), and selected water clarity parameters. Sixteen ponds in a wetland area and seven larger lakes, all located in south central Saskatchewan, Canada, were sampled for seston. The phytoplankton species were identified, and various biochemical seston variables were measured. A biotest using the zooplankter Daphnia magna, was employed to assess the nutritional value of the seston. The best seston variable to explain Daphnia growth was the phospholipid content (simple linear regression analysis: R^2_adj = 0.50). The water absorbance ratio A250/A365 was a good predictor of lipid content of the seston. Both the absorbance ratio A250/A365 and the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration were negatively correlated with Daphnia growth. We hypothesize that the penetration of visible and ultraviolet radiation is an important determinant of seston quality, especially the phospholipid content, and that this has important implications for determining ultimate growth rates of herbivorous zooplankton

The Disoriented State: Shifts In Governmentality, Territoriality and Governance
This paper is a submission to the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media’s #SAIFE Public Consultation (2020). It examines the complex relationship between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and hate speech: how AI can be used to create and disseminate – but also to detect and curb – hate speech. This complex relationship is one of the main areas of concern in the #SAIFE project. This submission explores a range of opportunities and challenges concerning the interplay between free speech, hate speech and AI. In particular, it explores three challenges and opportunities which require further study and reflection:the differentiated roles and responsibilities of State and private actors in a broader, human rights-driven and multi-stakeholder approach;the need for non-discriminatory policies and practices in the design and implementation of measures to block/remove hate speech; andthe broader effects on public debate where AI is used to moderate and censor expression.</ol
