    Influence of respiration frequency on heart rate variability parameters:A randomized cross-sectional study

    BACKGROUND: Many patients visiting physiotherapists for musculoskeletal disorders face psychosocial challenges which may form a large barrier to recover. There are only a limited number of evidence based psychosocial therapies, but they are mainly based on breathing exercises. OBJECTIVE: to study which respiration frequency would lead to the highest relaxation, reflected in vagal tone derived from the heart rate variability (HRV) in healthy subjects. METHODS: A randomized controlled cross sectional study was performed. Respiration cycles of four, five, six, seven and eight breaths per minute (BPM) were delivered in randomized order for two minutes each. HRV metrics were measured during the sessions with electrocardiogram (ECG). Repeated Measures ANOVA's were performed to analyze differences between breathing frequencies. RESULTS: 100 healthy volunteers were included (40 male). Standard Deviation of inter beat intervals (SDNN) values were significantly highest at 5 BPM, whereas the Root Mean Square of Successive Differences (RMSSD) values appeared highest at 7 breaths per minute (p < 0.01). High Frequency (HF) power was lowest at 4 BPM, whereas Low Frequency (LF) power was not significantly influenced by respiration frequency. CONCLUSIONS: Breathing at a frequency of 5 to 7 breaths per minute leads to highest HRV values, but there is no single respiration ratio that maximizes all metrics. Physiotherapists may use five to seven BPM as guidance to determine ideal breathing frequencies

    Bell inequalities for entangled kaons and their unitary time evolution

    We investigate Bell inequalities for neutral kaon systems from Phi resonance decay to test local realism versus quantum mechanics. We emphasize the unitary time evolution of the states, that means we also include all decay product states, in contrast to other authors. Only this guarantees the use of the complete Hilbert space. We develop a general formalism for Bell inequalities including both arbitrary "quasi spin" states and different times; finally we analyze Wigner-type inequalities. They contain an additional term, a correction function h, as compared to the spin 1/2 or photon case, which changes considerably the possibility of quantum mechanics to violate the Bell inequality. Examples for special "quasi spin" states are given, especially those which are sensitive to the CP parameters epsilon and epsilon'.Comment: REVTeX, 22 page

    The Charge Form Factor of the Neutron at Low Momentum Transfer from the 2H(e,en)p^{2}\vec{\rm H}(\vec{\rm e},{\rm e}'{\rm n}){\rm p} Reaction

    We report new measurements of the neutron charge form factor at low momentum transfer using quasielastic electrodisintegration of the deuteron. Longitudinally polarized electrons at an energy of 850 MeV were scattered from an isotopically pure, highly polarized deuterium gas target. The scattered electrons and coincident neutrons were measured by the Bates Large Acceptance Spectrometer Toroid (BLAST) detector. The neutron form factor ratio GEn/GMnG^{n}_{E}/G^{n}_{M} was extracted from the beam-target vector asymmetry AedVA_{ed}^{V} at four-momentum transfers Q2=0.14Q^{2}=0.14, 0.20, 0.29 and 0.42 (GeV/c)2^{2}.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys.     Measurement of the proton electric to magnetic form factor ratio from \vec ^1H(\vec e, e'p)

    We report the first precision measurement of the proton electric to magnetic form factor ratio from spin-dependent elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from a polarized hydrogen internal gas target. The measurement was performed at the MIT-Bates South Hall Ring over a range of four-momentum transfer squared Q2Q^2 from 0.15 to 0.65 (GeV/c)2^2. Significantly improved results on the proton electric and magnetic form factors are obtained in combination with previous cross-section data on elastic electron-proton scattering in the same Q2Q^2 region.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, submitted to PR

    A model for decoherence of entangled beauty

    In the context of the entangled B0Bˉ0B^0 \bar B^0 state produced at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance, we consider a modification of the usual quantum-mechanical time evolution with a dissipative term, which contains only one parameter denoted by λ\lambda and respects complete positivity. In this way a decoherence effect is introduced in the time evolution of the 2-particle B0Bˉ0B^0 \bar B^0 state, which becomes stronger with increasing distance between the two particles. While our model of time evolution has decoherence for the 2-particle system, we assume that, after the decay of one of the two B mesons, the resulting 1-particle state obeys the purely quantum-mechanical time evolution. From the data on dilepton events we derive an upper bound on λ\lambda. We also show how λ\lambda is related to the so-called ``decoherence parameter'' ζ\zeta, which parameterizes decoherence in neutral flavoured meson--antimeson systems.Comment: 11 pages, revtex.     GiViP: A Visual Profiler for Distributed Graph Processing Systems

    Analyzing large-scale graphs provides valuable insights in different application scenarios. While many graph processing systems working on top of distributed infrastructures have been proposed to deal with big graphs, the tasks of profiling and debugging their massive computations remain time consuming and error-prone. This paper presents GiViP, a visual profiler for distributed graph processing systems based on a Pregel-like computation model. GiViP captures the huge amount of messages exchanged throughout a computation and provides an interactive user interface for the visual analysis of the collected data. We show how to take advantage of GiViP to detect anomalies related to the computation and to the infrastructure, such as slow computing units and anomalous message patterns.Comment: Appears in the Proceedings of the 25th International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization (GD 2017

    Tensor Analyzing Powers for Quasi-Elastic Electron Scattering from Deuterium

    We report on a first measurement of tensor analyzing powers in quasi-elastic electron-deuteron scattering at an average three-momentum transfer of 1.7 fm1^{-1}. Data sensitive to the spin-dependent nucleon density in the deuteron were obtained for missing momenta up to 150 MeV/cc with a tensor polarized 2^2H target internal to an electron storage ring. The data are well described by a calculation that includes the effects of final-state interaction, meson-exchange and isobar currents, and leading-order relativistic contributions.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Beyond Prejudice as Simple Antipathy: Hostile and Benevolent Sexism Across Cultures

    The authors argue that complementary hostile and benevolent componen:s of sexism exist ac ro.ss cultures. Male dominance creates hostile sexism (HS). but men's dependence on women fosters benevolent sexism (BS)-subjectively positive attitudes that put women on a pedestal but reinforce their subordination. Research with 15,000 men and women in 19 nations showed that (a) HS and BS are coherenl constructs th at correlate positively across nations, but (b) HS predicts the ascription of negative and BS the ascription of positive traits to women, (c) relative to men, women are more likely to reject HS than BS. especially when overall levels of sexism in a culture are high, and (d) national averages on BS and HS predict gender inequal ity across nations. These results challenge prevailing notions of prejudice as an antipathy in that BS (an affectionate, patronizing ideology) reflects inequality and is a cross-culturally pervasive complement to HS
