    Therapist and client experiences of art therapy in relation to psychosis: a thematic analysis

    Background: Evidenced-based theory of art therapy for people experiencing psychosis is relatively under-developed, especially in terms of the detail of what happens in art therapy sessions, and the role of the artmaking. Aims: To explore in-session processes of art therapy from the viewpoint of both service users and art therapists using reflexive thematic analysis. Method: Twelve participants, six service users and six art therapists, were interviewed. Results: From the analysis, four main themes were created, specifically ‘safe space’, ‘power of artmaking’, ‘challenges’ and ‘supporting recovery’. Conclusions: The findings offer triangulated themes from art therapists and service users and explicate the role of the artmaking. Artmaking offers service users a space to express and contain their feelings, needs, wishes and fears within the artwork. This can start a dialogue and provides them with an opportunity to shift how they view their artwork and themselves. Practice implications: Artmaking helps service users express non-verbal and embodied material, which could then be explored through a therapeutic dialogue. Service users who struggle with verbalising their thoughts and feelings may particularly benefit from art therapy

    The Geant4 Hadronic Verification Suite for the Cascade Energy Range

    A Geant4 hadronic process verification suite has been designed to test and optimize Geant4 hadronic models in the cascade energy range. It focuses on quantities relevant to the LHC radiation environment and spallation source targets. The general structure of the suite is presented, including the user interface, stages of verification, management of experimental data, event generation, and comparison of results to data.     The Linear Polarization of Sagittarius A* II. VLA and BIMA Polarimetry at 22, 43 and 86 GHz

    We present a search for linear polarization at 22 GHz, 43 GHz and 86 GHz from the nearest super massive black hole candidate, Sagittarius A*. We find upper limits to the linear polarization of 0.2%, 0.4% and 1%, respectively. These results strongly support the conclusion of our centimeter wavelength spectro-polarimetry that Sgr A* is not depolarized by the interstellar medium but is in fact intrinsically depolarized.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ, 13 pages, 2 figure

    Will a given amount of the protein of oil meal, for example, be of equal value in supplying the needs of a milk cow as will the same amount of the protein of some other feed? To find a satisfactory answer to the above question, asked by many dairymen, has been the aim of the present investigation as reported in this bulletin. It has long been known that the protein from different sources varied in its ability to supply the protein demands of an animal. Numerous investigations have dealt with a study of the so-called pure proteins which have been found to vary in their relative values. Comparatively few· of these investigations have dealt with a study of protein as it occurs and is fed in the ordinary feeds. Even fewer have concerned themselves with this protein problem as regards animals producing milk. The present investigation deals with the relative value of the protein of common feeds in supplying the protein requirements of cows producing milk

    Aperture synthesis observations of the molecular ring in the galactic center

    Reported are 88 GHz aperture synthesis observations of HCN J=1 yields 0 emission and absorption in the central 5 pc of the Galaxy. The data, taken by the Hat Creek mm-interferometer at 5" to 10" spatial and 4 km/s spectral resolution, show a complete, clumpy ring of molecular gas surrounding the ionized central 2 pc of the Galaxy. The ring is the inner edge of a larger disk extending to about 5 pc. Comparison with sub-mm line data suggests that the HCN 1-0 line is slightly optically thick and originates in subthermally populated gas. The clumpy line emission distribution reflects a combination of hydrogen volume and column density variations. The new data clearly show a close physical relation between the molecular and the ionized gas in the central cavity. The western arc appears to be the ionized inner surface of the molecular ring, and the northern arm and bar may be streamers of ionized gas falling from the ring toward the center. The dominant large scale velocity pattern of the majority of the molecular gas in the inner 5 pc is rotation. No overall radial motion of the ring greater than about 20 km/s is apparent. The rotation is perturbed in several ways; (1) there is a very large local velocity dispersion, (2) the ring shows changes in position angle and inclination (warps), (3) there is a bright, redshifted cloud which appears to be located in the western part of the ring but does not participate in the rotation. These characteristics and the high degree of clumpiness indicate a non-equilibrium configuration of short (less than or approx. 10 to the 4th power to 10 to the 5th power y) dynamical lifetime. The warping and tilting of the structure and the short dynamical lifetime make an accurate determination of equilibrium rotation velocity uncertain

    Search for d^* Dibaryon by Double-radiative Capture on Pionic Deuterium

    We report a search for d^* dibaryon production by double-radiative capture on pionic deuterium. The experiment was conducted at the TRIUMF cyclotron using the RMC cylindrical pair spectrometer, and detected gamma-ray coincidences following pion stops in liquid deuterium. We found no evidence for narrow dibaryons, and obtained a branching ratio upper limit, BR < 6.7 times 10^{-6} (90% C.L.), for narrow d^* production in the mass range from 1920 to 1980 MeV.     Thermo-mechanical analysis of dental silicone polymers

    Soft lining materials are used to replace the inner surface of a conventional complete denture, especially for weak elderly patients, with delicate health who cannot tolerate the hard acrylic denture base. Most of these patients have fragile supporting mucosa, excessive residual ridge resorption, particularly on the mandibular arch. The application of a soft liner to the mandibular denture allows absorbing impact forces during mastication and relieving oral mucosa. Actually, the silicone rubbers constitute the main family of commercialised soft lining materials. This study was conducted to understand the relationships between the mechanical properties and the physical structure of polysiloxanes. For this purpose, a series of polysiloxanes of various chemical compositions have been investigated. The evolution of their physical structure as a function of temperature has been followed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In order to facilitate comparisons, the mechanical modulus has been analysed upon the same heating rate using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Polysiloxanes actually commercialised as soft denture liners are three-dimensional networks: the flexibility of chains allows a crystalline organisation in an amorphous phase leading to the low value of the shear modulus. The dynamic mechanical analysis shows that they are used in the rubbery state. So, polysiloxanes have steady mechanical properties during physiological utilisation
