Aperture synthesis observations of the molecular ring in the galactic center
Reported are 88 GHz aperture synthesis observations of HCN J=1 yields 0 emission and absorption in the central 5 pc of the Galaxy. The data, taken by the Hat Creek mm-interferometer at 5" to 10" spatial and 4 km/s spectral resolution, show a complete, clumpy ring of molecular gas surrounding the ionized central 2 pc of the Galaxy. The ring is the inner edge of a larger disk extending to about 5 pc. Comparison with sub-mm line data suggests that the HCN 1-0 line is slightly optically thick and originates in subthermally populated gas. The clumpy line emission distribution reflects a combination of hydrogen volume and column density variations. The new data clearly show a close physical relation between the molecular and the ionized gas in the central cavity. The western arc appears to be the ionized inner surface of the molecular ring, and the northern arm and bar may be streamers of ionized gas falling from the ring toward the center. The dominant large scale velocity pattern of the majority of the molecular gas in the inner 5 pc is rotation. No overall radial motion of the ring greater than about 20 km/s is apparent. The rotation is perturbed in several ways; (1) there is a very large local velocity dispersion, (2) the ring shows changes in position angle and inclination (warps), (3) there is a bright, redshifted cloud which appears to be located in the western part of the ring but does not participate in the rotation. These characteristics and the high degree of clumpiness indicate a non-equilibrium configuration of short (less than or approx. 10 to the 4th power to 10 to the 5th power y) dynamical lifetime. The warping and tilting of the structure and the short dynamical lifetime make an accurate determination of equilibrium rotation velocity uncertain
Search for d^* Dibaryon by Double-radiative Capture on Pionic Deuterium
We report a search for d^* dibaryon production by double-radiative capture on
pionic deuterium. The experiment was conducted at the TRIUMF cyclotron using
the RMC cylindrical pair spectrometer, and detected gamma-ray coincidences
following pion stops in liquid deuterium. We found no evidence for narrow
dibaryons, and obtained a branching ratio upper limit, BR < 6.7 times 10^{-6}
(90% C.L.), for narrow d^* production in the mass range from 1920 to 1980 MeV.

Thermo-mechanical analysis of dental silicone polymers
Soft lining materials are used to replace the inner surface of a conventional complete denture, especially for weak elderly patients, with delicate health who cannot tolerate the hard acrylic denture base. Most of these patients have fragile supporting mucosa, excessive residual ridge resorption, particularly on the mandibular arch. The application of a soft liner to the mandibular denture allows absorbing impact forces during mastication and relieving oral mucosa. Actually, the silicone rubbers constitute the main family of commercialised soft lining materials. This study was conducted to understand the relationships between the mechanical properties and the physical structure of polysiloxanes. For this purpose, a series of polysiloxanes of various chemical compositions have been investigated. The evolution of their physical structure as a function of temperature has been followed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In order to facilitate comparisons, the mechanical modulus has been analysed upon the same heating rate using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Polysiloxanes actually commercialised as soft denture liners are three-dimensional networks: the flexibility of chains allows a crystalline organisation in an amorphous phase leading to the low value of the shear modulus. The dynamic mechanical analysis shows that they are used in the rubbery state. So, polysiloxanes have steady mechanical properties during physiological utilisation
Ortho-para transition rate in -molecular hydrogen and the proton's induced pseudoscalar coupling
We report a measurement of the ortho-para transition rate in the pp
molecule. The experiment was conducted at TRIUMF via the measurement of the
time dependence of the 5.2 MeV neutrons from muon capture in liquid hydrogen.
The measurement yielded an ortho-para rate s that is substantially larger than the
earlier result of Bardin {\it et al.} We discuss the striking implications for

Interferometric Detection of Linear Polarization from Sagittarius A* at 230 GHz
We measured the linear polarization of Sagittarius A* to be 7.2 +/- 0.6 % at
230 GHzusing the BIMA array with a resolution of 3.6 x 0.9 arcsec. This
confirms the previously reported detection with the JCMT 14-m antenna. Our high
resolution observations demonstrate that the polarization does not arise from
dust but from a synchrotron source associated with Sgr A*. We see no change in
the polarization position angle and only a small change in the polarization
fraction in four observations distributed over 60 days. We find a position
angle 139 +/- 4 degrees that differs substantially from what was found in
earlier JCMT observations at the same frequency. Polarized dust emission cannot
account for this discrepancy leaving variability and observational error as the
only explanations. The BIMA observations alone place an upper limit on the
magnitude of the rotation measure of 2 x 10^6 rad m^-2. These new observations
when combined with the JCMT observations at 150, 375 and 400 GHz suggest RM
=-4.3 +/- 0.1 x 10^5 rad m^-2. This RM may be caused by an external Faraday
screen. Barring a special geometry or a high number of field reversals, this RM
rules out accretion rates greater than ~ 10^-7 M_sun y^-1. This measurement is
inconsistent with high accretion rates necessary in standard advection
dominated accretion flow and Bondi-Hoyle models for Sgr A*. It argues for low
accretion rates as a major factor in the overall faintness of Sgr A*.Comment: accepted for publication in ApJ, 18 pages, 4 figure
