New algorithm of the high-temperature expansion for the Ising model in three dimensions

New algorithm of the finite lattice method is presented to generate the high-temperature expansion series of the Ising model. It enables us to obtain much longer series in three dimensions when compared not only to the previous algorithm of the finite lattice method but also to the standard graphical method. It is applied to extend the high-temperature series of the simple cubic Ising model from beta^{26} to beta^{46} for the free energy and from beta^{25} to beta^{32} for the magnetic susceptibility.Comment: 3 pages, Lattice2002(spin

Higher orders of the high-temperature expansion for the Ising model in three dimensions

The new algorithm of the finite lattice method is applied to generate the high-temperature expansion series of the simple cubic Ising model to β50\beta^{50} for the free energy, to β32\beta^{32} for the magnetic susceptibility and to β29\beta^{29} for the second moment correlation length. The series are analyzed to give the precise value of the critical point and the critical exponents of the model.Comment: Lattice2003(Higgs), 3 pages, 2 figure

Legislation On The Preparation Of Medicinal Products In European Pharmacies And The Council Of Europe Resolution

The rights of patients should be sufficiently protected even when an appropriate authorised medicine does not exist or is unavailable on the market. The Resolution, which was adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2011, aims at harmonising quality and safety standards for pharmacy preparation of medicinal products in Europe. Two pillars of EU regulation and the exceptions to them The system of regulation of medicinal products is built upon two pillars: the marketing authorisation of the medicinal product and the licence for manufacturing and wholesale. This article provides insight into the recent interpretation of the European Court of Justice concerning the scope of European Union (EU) regulation of medicinal products and the circumstances in which the EU regulation does not apply: pharmacy preparations, specialties and the compassionate use of medicines, including manufacturing licence.EU regulation and the Resolution concerning pharmacy preparation Pharmacy preparations are allowed under certain strict conditions according to EU regulations. However, pharmacies specialised in preparation and distributing medicinal products to local pharmacies do not fulfil these strict conditions in EU regulation. Apart from the legal context, relevant standards for safety and quality assurance are needed in Europe in order to protect patients’ rights and to avoid risks from pharmacy preparations.Discussion and conclusions The Council of Europe Resolution provides a means of establishing standards for safety and quality assurance for pharmacy preparations through Good Manufacturing Practice Guidelines. The Resolution is available to authorities and pharmacists in order to prevent incidents with medicines prepared in pharmacies which may threaten patients’ safety. The authors conclude that pharmacy practices have changed over time in Europe and this may imply a reason for a reform of EU regulation on medicinal products

Further support for the alignment of cattle along magnetic field lines: reply to Hert et al.

Hert et al. (J Comp Physiol A, 2011) challenged one part of the study by Begall et al. (PNAS 105:13451–13455, 2008) claiming that they could not replicate the finding of preferential magnetic alignment of cattle recorded in aerial images of Google Earth. However, Hert and co-authors used a different statistical approach and applied the statistics on a sample partly unsuitable to examine magnetic alignment. About 50% of their data represent noise (resolution of the images is too poor to enable unambiguous measurement of the direction of body axes, pastures are on slopes, near settlements or high voltage power-lines, etc.). Moreover, the authors have selected for their analysis only ~ 40% of cattle that were present on the pastures analyzed. Here, we reanalyze all usable data and show that cattle significantly align their body axes in North–South direction on pastures analyzed by Hert and co-authors. This finding thus supports our previous study. In addition, we show by using aerial Google Earth images with good resolution, that the magnetic alignment is more pronounced in resting than in standing cattle

Large-q expansion of the energy and magnetization cumulants for the two-dimensional q-state Potts model

    Get PDF
We have calculated the large-q expansion for the energy cumulants and the magnetization cumulants at the phase transition point in the two-dimensional q-state Potts model to the 21st or 23rd order in 1/q1/\sqrt{q} using the finite lattice method. The obtained series allow us to give very precise estimates of the cumulants for q>4q>4 on the first order transition point. The result confirms us the correctness of the conjecture by Bhattacharya et al. on the asymptotic behavior not only of the energy cumulants but also of the magnetization cumulants for q4+q \to 4_+.Comment: 36 pages, LaTeX, 20 postscript figures, to appear in Nuclear Physics

We have calculated the low-temperature series for the second moment of the correlation function in d=3d=3 Ising model to order u26u^{26} and for the free energy of Absolute Value Solid-on-Solid (ASOS) model to order u23u^{23}, using the finite-lattice method.Comment: 3pages, latex, no figures, talk given at LATTICE'94, to appear in the proceeding

New Algorithm of the Finite Lattice Method for the High-temperature Expansion of the Ising Model in Three Dimensions

We propose a new algorithm of the finite lattice method to generate the high-temperature series for the Ising model in three dimensions. It enables us to extend the series for the free energy of the simple cubic lattice from the previous series of 26th order to 46th order in the inverse temperature. The obtained series give the estimate of the critical exponent for the specific heat in high precision.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Letter
