Ultrafast trapping times in ion implanted InP
As⁺ and P⁺implantation was performed on semi-insulating (SI) and p-type InP samples for the purpose of creating a material suitable for ultrafast optoelectronic applications. SI InP samples were implanted with a dose of 1×10¹⁶ cm⁻² and p-type InP was implanted with doses between 1×10¹² and 1×10¹⁶ cm⁻². Subsequently, rapid thermal annealing at temperatures between 400 and 700 °C was performed for 30 sec. Hall-effect measurements, double-crystal x-ray diffraction, and time-resolved femtosecond differential reflectivity showed that, for the highest-annealing temperatures, the implanted SI InP samples exhibited high mobility, low resistivity, short response times, and minimal structural damage. Similar measurements on implantedp-type InP showed that the fast response time, high mobility, and good structural recovery could be retained while increasing the resistivity
Positive Semidefiniteness and Positive Definiteness of a Linear Parametric Interval Matrix
We consider a symmetric matrix, the entries of which depend linearly on some
parameters. The domains of the parameters are compact real intervals. We
investigate the problem of checking whether for each (or some) setting of the
parameters, the matrix is positive definite (or positive semidefinite). We
state a characterization in the form of equivalent conditions, and also propose
some computationally cheap sufficient\,/\,necessary conditions. Our results
extend the classical results on positive (semi-)definiteness of interval
matrices. They may be useful for checking convexity or non-convexity in global
optimization methods based on branch and bound framework and using interval
techniques
Variational Principles for Water Waves
We describe the Hamiltonian structures, including the Poisson brackets and
Hamiltonians, for free boundary problems for incompressible fluid flows with
vorticity. The Hamiltonian structure is used to obtain variational principles
for stationary gravity waves both for irrotational flows as well as flows with
vorticity.Comment: 20 page
Parallel Unsmoothed Aggregation Algebraic Multigrid Algorithms on GPUs
We design and implement a parallel algebraic multigrid method for isotropic
graph Laplacian problems on multicore Graphical Processing Units (GPUs). The
proposed AMG method is based on the aggregation framework. The setup phase of
the algorithm uses a parallel maximal independent set algorithm in forming
aggregates and the resulting coarse level hierarchy is then used in a K-cycle
iteration solve phase with a -Jacobi smoother. Numerical tests of a
parallel implementation of the method for graphics processors are presented to
demonstrate its effectiveness.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figure

We-T classification of diesel fuel droplet impact regimes
A combined experimental and computational investigation of micrometric diesel droplets impacting on a heated aluminium substrate is presented. Dual view high-speed imaging has been employed to visualize the evolution of the impact process at various conditions. The parameters investigated include wall-surface temperature ranging from 140 to 400°C, impact Weber and Reynolds numbers of 19–490 and 141–827, respectively, and ambient pressure of 1 and 2 bar. Six possible post-impact regimes were identified, termed as Stick, Splash, Partial-Rebound, Rebound, Breakup-Rebound and Breakup-Stick, and plotted on the We-T map. Additionally, the temporal variation of the apparent dynamic contact angle and spreading factor have been determined as a function of the impact Weber number and surface temperature. Numerical simulations have also been performed using a two-phase flow model with interface capturing, phase-change and variable physical properties. Increased surface temperature resulted to increased maximum spreading diameter and induced quicker and stronger recoiling behaviour, mostly attributed to the change of liquid viscosity
The curvature of semidirect product groups associated with two-component Hunter-Saxton systems
In this paper, we study two-component versions of the periodic Hunter-Saxton
equation and its -variant. Considering both equations as a geodesic flow
on the semidirect product of the circle diffeomorphism group \Diff(\S) with a
space of scalar functions on we show that both equations are locally
well-posed. The main result of the paper is that the sectional curvature
associated with the 2HS is constant and positive and that 2HS allows for a
large subspace of positive sectional curvature. The issues of this paper are
related to some of the results for 2CH and 2DP presented in [J. Escher, M.
Kohlmann, and J. Lenells, J. Geom. Phys. 61 (2011), 436-452].Comment: 19 page
CLINICAL OUTCOME OF INTERSPHINCTERIC RESECTION FOR ULTRA-LOW RECTAL CANCER
BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic surgery has been reported to be one of the approaches for total mesorectal excision (TME) in rectal cancer surgery. Intersphincteric resection (ISR) has been reported as a promising method for sphincter-preserving operation in selected patients with very low rectal cancer. METHODS: We try to underline the important surgical issues surrounding the management of patients with low rectal cancer indicated to laparoscopic intersphincteric resection (ISR). From January 2007 till now, 35 patients with very low rectal cancer underwent laparoscopic TME with ISR. We report and analyze the results from them RESULTS: Conversion to open surgery was necessary in one (3%) patient. The median operation time was 293 min and median estimated blood loss was 40 ml. The pelvic plexus was completely preserved in 32 patients. There was no mortality. Postoperative complications occurred in three (9%) patients. The median length of postoperative hospital stay was 11 days. Macroscopic complete mesorectal excision was achieved in all cases. Complete resection (R0) was achieved in 21 (91%) patients.CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic TME with ISR is technically feasible and a safe alternative to laparotomy with favorable short-term postoperative outcomes. The literature research made by us found that the laparoscopic approach can be underwent in most patients with low rectal cancer in which laparoscopic ISR represents a feasible alternative to conventional open surgery
