Comment on `Strong Vortex Liquid Correlation' from Multiterminal Measurements on Untwinned YBaCuO Single Crystals'
A.Rydh and \"O.Rapp [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 86}, 1873 (2001).] claim that the
vortex liquid in untwinned YBaCuO crystals is correlated
above the melting transition, in striking contrast to previous work [D.L\'opez
{\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 76}, 4034 (1996).]. In this Comment we
present new measurements using the same experimental technique on twinned and
untwinned YBaCuO crystals with similar overall
characteristics as those reported by Rydh and Rapp . The comparison of the
vortex correlation response in both cases indicates that the central conclusion
of their work is not correct. Our results reconfirm the work by L\'opez {\it et
al.} and points on the origin of the misinterpretation in the work of Rydh and
Rapp.Comment: comment on A.Rydh and \"O.Rapp, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 86}, 1873

Velocity quantization approach of the one-dimensional dissipative harmonic oscillator
Given a constant of motion for the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator with
linear dissipation in the velocity, the problem to get the Hamiltonian for this
system is pointed out, and the quantization up to second order in the
perturbation approach is used to determine the modification on the eigenvalues
when dissipation is taken into consideration. This quantization is realized
using the constant of motion instead of the Hamiltonian.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
Espacios verdes urbanos y diversidad vegetal a diferentes escalas espacio-temporales: el ejemplo de Beijing, China
Beijing, the capital city of China, is one of the largest and most rapidly-urbanizing cities in the world. In this work, we present the main results of one decade’s research on urban vegetation and plant diversity changes in different urban structural units. Urban vegetation/plant diversity has been studied at two different levels: at the landscape level (greening percentage, fragmentation degree) and at the plant species level (structure, composition, and origin). Finally, concerns with the ability to study Beijing’s plant urban ecology are discussed.
Role of twin boundaries on the vortex dynamics in YBaCuO
By means of a novel technique of rotating the applied current we have
directly measured the influence of twin boundaries on the vortex motion in a
YBaCuO single crystal. The results indicate that the effect of twin
planes on the vortex dynamics starts to develop below a certain temperature,
being responsible for an anisotropic viscosity in the vortex liquid state and a
guided motion in the solid state.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
On the Lebesgue measure of Li-Yorke pairs for interval maps
We investigate the prevalence of Li-Yorke pairs for and
multimodal maps with non-flat critical points. We show that every
measurable scrambled set has zero Lebesgue measure and that all strongly
wandering sets have zero Lebesgue measure, as does the set of pairs of
asymptotic (but not asymptotically periodic) points.
If is topologically mixing and has no Cantor attractor, then typical
(w.r.t. two-dimensional Lebesgue measure) pairs are Li-Yorke; if additionally
admits an absolutely continuous invariant probability measure (acip), then
typical pairs have a dense orbit for . These results make use of
so-called nice neighborhoods of the critical set of general multimodal maps,
and hence uniformly expanding Markov induced maps, the existence of either is
proved in this paper as well.
For the setting where has a Cantor attractor, we present a trichotomy
explaining when the set of Li-Yorke pairs and distal pairs have positive
two-dimensional Lebesgue measure.Comment: 41 pages, 3 figure
Scaling Approach to Calculate Critical Exponents in Anomalous Surface Roughening
We study surface growth models exhibiting anomalous scaling of the local
surface fluctuations. An analytical approach to determine the local scaling
exponents of continuum growth models is proposed. The method allows to predict
when a particular growth model will have anomalous properties () and to calculate the local exponents. Several continuum growth
equations are examined as examples.Comment: RevTeX, 4 pages, no figs. To appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Proposed experiment for the quantum "Guess my number" protocol
An experimental realization of the entanglement-assisted "Guess my number"
protocol for the reduction of communication complexity, introduced by Steane
and van Dam, would require producing and detecting three-qubit GHZ states with
an efficiency eta > 0.70, which would require single photon detectors of
efficiency sigma > 0.89. We propose a modification of the protocol which can be
translated into a real experiment using present-day technology. In the proposed
experiment, the quantum reduction of the multi-party communication complexity
would require an efficiency eta > 0.05, achievable with detectors of sigma >
0.47, for four parties, and eta > 0.17 (sigma > 0.55) for three parties.Comment: REVTeX4, 4 pages, 1 figur
Exchange operator formalism for N-body spin models with near-neighbors interactions
We present a detailed analysis of the spin models with near-neighbors
interactions constructed in our previous paper [Phys. Lett. B 605 (2005) 214]
by a suitable generalization of the exchange operator formalism. We provide a
complete description of a certain flag of finite-dimensional spaces of spin
functions preserved by the Hamiltonian of each model. By explicitly
diagonalizing the Hamiltonian in the latter spaces, we compute several infinite
families of eigenfunctions of the above models in closed form in terms of
generalized Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials.Comment: RevTeX, 31 pages, no figures; important additional conten
Nonlinear Interaction of Transversal Modes in a CO2 Laser
We show the possibility of achieving experimentally a Takens-Bogdanov
bifurcation for the nonlinear interaction of two transverse modes ()
in a laser. The system has a basic O(2) symmetry which is perturbed by
some symmetry-breaking effects that still preserve the symmetry. The
pattern dynamics near this codimension two bifurcation under such symmetries is
described. This dynamics changes drastically when the laser properties are
modified.Comment: 16 pages, 0 figure
