Information processing with topologically protected vortex memories in exciton-polariton condensates
We show that in a non-equilibrium system of an exciton-polariton condensate,
where polaritons are generated from incoherent pumping, a ring-shaped pump
allows for stationary vortex memory elements of topological charge or
. Using simple potential guides we can choose whether to copy the same
charge or invert it onto another spatially separate ring pump. Such
manipulation of binary information opens the possibility of a new type
processing using vortices as topologically protected memory components
Causal structure and degenerate phase boundaries
Timelike and null hypersurfaces in the degenerate space-times in the Ashtekar
theory are defined in the light of the degenerate causal structure proposed by
Matschull. Using the new definition of null hypersufaces, the conjecture that
the "phase boundary" separating the degenerate space-time region from the
non-degenerate one in Ashtekar's gravity is always null is proved under certain

Review article: the global emergence of Helicobacter pylori antibiotic resistance.
BackgroundHelicobacter pylori is one of the most prevalent global pathogens and can lead to gastrointestinal disease including peptic ulcers, gastric marginal zone lymphoma and gastric carcinoma.AimTo review recent trends in H. pylori antibiotic resistance rates, and to discuss diagnostics and treatment paradigms.MethodsA PubMed literature search using the following keywords: Helicobacter pylori, antibiotic resistance, clarithromycin, levofloxacin, metronidazole, prevalence, susceptibility testing.ResultsThe prevalence of bacterial antibiotic resistance is regionally variable and appears to be markedly increasing with time in many countries. Concordantly, the antimicrobial eradication rate of H. pylori has been declining globally. In particular, clarithromycin resistance has been rapidly increasing in many countries over the past decade, with rates as high as approximately 30% in Japan and Italy, 50% in China and 40% in Turkey; whereas resistance rates are much lower in Sweden and Taiwan, at approximately 15%; there are limited data in the USA. Other antibiotics show similar trends, although less pronounced.ConclusionsSince the choice of empiric therapies should be predicated on accurate information regarding antibiotic resistance rates, there is a critical need for determination of current rates at a local scale, and perhaps in individual patients. Such information would not only guide selection of appropriate empiric antibiotic therapy but also inform the development of better methods to identify H. pylori antibiotic resistance at diagnosis. Patient-specific tailoring of effective antibiotic treatment strategies may lead to reduced treatment failures and less antibiotic resistance
Degenerate Sectors of the Ashtekar Gravity
This work completes the task of solving locally the Einstein-Ashtekar
equations for degenerate data. The two remaining degenerate sectors of the
classical 3+1 dimensional theory are considered. First, with all densitized
triad vectors linearly dependent and second, with only two independent ones. It
is shown how to solve the Einstein-Ashtekar equations completely by suitable
gauge fixing and choice of coordinates. Remarkably, the Hamiltonian weakly
Poisson commutes with the conditions defining the sectors. The summary of

Terahertz generation in Czochralski grown periodically poled Mg:Y:LiNbO3 via optical rectification
Using a canonical pump-probe experimental technique, we studied the terahertz
(THz) waves generation and detection via optical rectification and mixing in
Czochralski-grown periodically poled Mg:Y:LiNbO3 (PPLN) crystals. THz waves
with frequencies at 1.37 THz and 0.68 THz as well as 1.8 THz were obtained for
PPLN with nonlinear grating periods of 0.03 and 0.06 mm, respectively. A
general theoretical model was developed by considering the dispersion and
damping of low frequency phonon-polariton mode. Our results show that THz waves
are generated in forward and backward directions via pumping pulse
rectification. The generated THz waves depend on the spectral shape of the
laser pulses, quasi-phase mismatches and dispersion characteristics of a

Time-Dependent Symmetries of Variable-Coefficient Evolution Equations and Graded Lie Algebras
Polynomial-in-time dependent symmetries are analysed for polynomial-in-time
dependent evolution equations. Graded Lie algebras, especially Virasoro
algebras, are used to construct nonlinear variable-coefficient evolution
equations, both in 1+1 dimensions and in 2+1 dimensions, which possess
higher-degree polynomial-in-time dependent symmetries. The theory also provides
a kind of new realisation of graded Lie algebras. Some illustrative examples

P Wave Meson Spectrum in a Relativistic Model with Instanton Induced Interaction
On the basis of the phenomenological relativistic harmonic models for quarks
we have obtained the masses of P wave mesons. The full Hamiltonian used in the
investigation has Lorentz scalar + vector confinement potential, along with one
gluon exchange potential (OGEP) and the instanton-induced quark-antiquark
interaction (III). A good agreement is obtained with the experimental masses.
The respective role of III and OGEP for the determination of the meson masses

Transverse Polarization of Top Quarks Produced at a Photon-Photon Collider
At future colliders copious production of pairs
is possible. This would allow a detailed investigation of the interactions
involving the top quark. We propose some orrelations which are sensitive to final state interactions and we compute the QCD and standard model
Higgs boson contributions to these correlations. QCD induced transverse
polarization of top quarks is found to be sizeable and measurable at a
high-energy collider with an integrated luminosity of 10 which is converted into a photon collider by backscattering of laser

Nitrogen backbone oligomers
In contrast to carbon, which forms long polymeric chains, all-nitrogen chains
are very unstable. Here we found that nitrogen and hydrogen directly react at
room temperature and pressures of about 35 GPa forming a mixture of nitrogen
backbone oligomers - chains of single-bonded nitrogen atom with the rest of the
bonds terminated with hydrogen atoms - as identified by IR absorption, Raman,
X-ray diffraction experiments and theoretical calculations. The pressure
required for the synthesis strongly decreases with temperature to about 20 GPa
at 550 K. At releasing pressures below about 10 GPa, the product transforms
into hydrazine. Our findings might open a way for the practical synthesis of
these extremely high energetic materials as the formation of nitrogen-hydrogen
compounds is favorable already at pressures above 2 GPa according to the
