Proper Scaling of the Anomalous Hall Effect

Working with epitaxial films of Fe, we succeeded in independent control of different scattering processes in the anomalous Hall effect. The result appropriately accounted for the role of phonons, thereby clearly exposing the fundamental flaws of the standard plot of the anomalous Hall resistivity versus longitudinal resistivity. A new scaling has been thus established that allows an unambiguous identification of the intrinsic Berry curvature mechanism as well as the extrinsic skew scattering and side-jump mechanisms of the anomalous Hall effect.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Genetic and Genomic Approaches to Identify and Study the Targets of Bioactive Small Molecules

    Get PDF
AbstractNatural and synthetic bioactive small molecules form the backbone of modern therapeutics. These drugs primarily exert their effect by targeting cellular host or foreign proteins that are critical for the progression of disease. Therefore, a crucial step in the process of recognizing valuable new drug leads is identification of their protein targets; this is often a time consuming and difficult task. This report is intended to provide a comprehensive review of recent developments in genetic and genomic approaches to overcome the hurdle of discovering the protein targets of bioactive small molecules

Hadron yields in Au+Au/Pb+Pb at RHIC and LHC from thermalized minijets

    Get PDF
We calculate the yields of a variety of hadrons for RHIC and LHC energies assuming thermodynamical equilibration of the produced minijets, and using as input results from pQCD for the energy densities at midrapidity. In the calculation of the production of partons and of transverse energy one has to account for nuclear shadowing. By using two parametrizations for the gluon shadowing one derives energy densities differing strongly in magnitude. In this publication we link those perturbatively calculated energy densities of partons via entropy conservation in an ideal fluid to the hadron multiplicities at chemical freeze-out.Comment: 11 pages, 2 .eps figure
