This Article looks at Dylan songs and traces them back to true crime to relate Dylan to the law. It looks at Ballad of Hollis Brown, Ballad of Donald White, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, Hurricane, Percy\u27s Song, and Talking Bear Mountain Picnic Massacre Blues. Part I looks at Dylan\u27s traditional songs. Part II looks at Dylan\u27s finger-pointing songs. Finally, part III looks at Bad Judge Ballads

Investigating the relationship between stressful life events, coping style and Parkinson's disease

Section A gives an overview of Parkinson’s disease (PD), followed by a review of physiological and psychological literature suggestive of a relationship between stress and illness, with special consideration given to neurological disorders, including PD. Literature suggestive of direct and moderating relationships of coping style in relation to illness is then given. Finally, implications of the literature and directions for future research are considered. Section B describes an empirical study. Objectives. Literature suggests that a relationship exists between stressful life events (SLEs), coping style and illness. The present study aimed to investigate the direct relationships between both SLEs and coping style, and PD, and coping style as a moderator between SLEs and PD. Design. A retrospective, correlational design was employed in the current pilot study, using correlational and multivariate methods of analysis. Methods. Life-time experience of SLEs and coping style were measured using self-report questionnaires, and were completed by a group of people with PD (N = 19) and a group of people without PD (N = 20). Results. Significant relationships were found between SLEs and PD, and emotion-oriented coping and PD. People who reported a higher number of SLEs were associated with a 2.6 times higher risk of having PD (OR = 2.60; 95% CI, 1.35 – 4.99) and those who reported a higher level of emotion-oriented coping had an 8% increased chance of having PD (OR = 1.08; 95% CI, 1.00 – 1.17), compared to those with fewer reported SLEs. No other significant direct effects or moderator effects were found. Conclusions. These findings suggest an association between stressful life events and PD, and to a lesser degree between emotion-oriented coping and PD. Further research is needed to replicate and clarify findings. Section C provides a critical appraisal of the study described in Section B. It addresses four questions posed with regard to: research skills and abilities learned, what could be done differently and why, clinical implications, and future research ideas. This section also includes personal reflection by the author of the process of carrying out the study, and of several learning points that occurred throughout the process

    Multiplate focusing collimator

    Get PDF
An appartus is described for scanning relatively small near sources of penetrating radiation to obtain the energy distribution thereof, wherein a collimator assembly is interposed between a radiation source and a radiation detector. The collimator assembly has a plurality of plates aligned in parallel planes with respect to a common axis normal to their centers. All the plates have similar random distribution of apertures. All apertures on each plate are the same size. The size of respective plates, the size of the apertures of said respective plates, and the spacing between said respective plates vary precisely according to a predetermined ratio to produce radiation channels which converge to a focal point. The radiation incident to the radiation detector is maximized when the focal point and the radiation source are co-incident

Subsonic stability and control characteristics of a 0.015-scale (remotely controlled elevon) model 44-0 of the space shuttle orbiter tested in the NASA/ARC 12-foot pressure tunnel (LA66)

    Get PDF
The investigation was conducted in the NASA/Ames Research Center 12-foot Pressure Tunnel. The model was a Langley-built 0.015-scale SSV orbiter model with remote independently operated left and right elevon surfaces. The objective of the test was to generate a detailed aerodynamic data base for the current shuttle orbiter configuration. Special attention was directed to definition of nonlinear aerodynamic characteristics by taking data at small increments in angle of attack, angle of sideslip, and elevon position. Six-component aerodynamic force and moment and elevon position data were recorded over an angle of attack range from -4 deg to 24 deg at angles of sideslip of 0 deg and + or - 4 deg. Additional tests were made over an angle of sideslip range from -6 deg to 6 deg at selected angles of attack. The test Mach numbers were 0.22 and 0.29 and the Reynolds number was varied from 2.0 to 8.5 million per foot

    Aircraft wing trailing-edge noise

    Get PDF
The mechanism and sound pressure level of the trailing-edge noise for two-dimensional turbulent boundary layer flow was examined. Experiment is compared with current theory. A NACA 0012 airfoil of 0.61 m chord and 0.46 m span was immersed in the laminar flow of a low turbulence open jet. A 2.54 cm width roughness strip was placed at 15 percent chord from the leading edge on both sides of the airfoil as a boundary layer trip so that two separate but statistically equivalent turbulent boundary layers were formed. Tests were performed with several trailing-edge geometries with the upstream velocity U sub infinity ranging from a value of 30.9 m/s up to 73.4 m/s. Properties of the boundary layer for the airfoil and pressure fluctuations in the vicinity of the trailing-edge were examined. A scattered pressure field due to the presence of the trailing-edge was observed and is suggested as a possible sound producing mechanism for the trailing-edge noise

The minimum flux corona; theory or concept

The reply to the criticisms of the minimum flux theory is discussed. These criticisms are correct in substance, as well as in detail. Counter arguments that the minimum flux corona theory is untenable, because of errors in its formulation, are presented

In this article the author provides a primer on the more common forms of cheating employed by trial lawyers. Another purpose is to suggest that there are antidotes that may be administered to curb these abuses, assuming that trial attorneys are alert enough to invoke them, and trial judges are willing to apply them
