    Filled pauses in Hungarian: Their phonetic form and function

    Filled pauses are natural occurrences in spontaneous speech and they may turn up at any level of the speech planning process and in a number of functions. The aim of this paper is to find out whether the diverse functions of filled pauses correlate with diverse articulations resulting in diverse acoustic structures. Spontaneous narratives are used as research material. The duration of the filled pauses and the frequency values of their first two formants are analyzed. The most frequent form, schwa, shows function-dependent realizations as confirmed by the durational values and by the second formant values of these vowel-like sounds

    Selected-area small-angle electron diffraction

    Selected-area electron diffraction capable of resolving spacings up to 2000 Ă… from first-order discrete reflections has been achieved using a standard, double-condenser electron microscope. The technique allows photographing of the selected area, at sufficient magnification, that gives rise to the small-angle scattering pattern, in addition to the normal capabilities of obtaining related wide-angle diffraction and wide-angle and small-angle dark-field micrographs. Most, but not all, of the results of discrete and diffuse, small-angle electron diffraction studies from a large variety of specimens including drawn, annealed polyethylene, latex particles, evaporated gold particles, grating replicas, and slit edges have been explained on the basis of the structures observed in the corresponding electron micrographs.     Cytomegalovirus-based vaccine expressing Ebola virus glycoprotein protects nonhuman primates from Ebola virus infection.

    Ebolaviruses pose significant public health problems due to their high lethality, unpredictable emergence, and localization to the poorest areas of the world. In addition to implementation of standard public health control procedures, a number of experimental human vaccines are being explored as a further means for outbreak control. Recombinant cytomegalovirus (CMV)-based vectors are a novel vaccine platform that have been shown to induce substantial levels of durable, but primarily T-cell-biased responses against the encoded heterologous target antigen. Herein, we demonstrate the ability of rhesus CMV (RhCMV) expressing Ebola virus (EBOV) glycoprotein (GP) to provide protective immunity to rhesus macaques against lethal EBOV challenge. Surprisingly, vaccination was associated with high levels of GP-specific antibodies, but with no detectable GP-directed cellular immunity
