The construction of one-bone forearm with side-to-side distal radioulnar bifurcation synostosis operation for congenital pseudarthrosis of the radius
The congenital radius pseudarthrosis is a rare condition which’s treatment is difficult. There were many reported surgical options for this situation. One of them is construction of one-bone in forearm. Here, we presented a seven years-old boy who has instability and defective congenital radius pseudarthrosis in forearm that treated with side-to-side distal radioulnar bifurcation synostosis technique preserving the distal radioulnar joint, and obtained good functional results
Dephasing of Electrons on Helium by Collisions with Gas Atoms
The damping of quantum effects in the transport properties of electrons
deposited on a surface of liquid helium is studied. It is found that due to
vertical motion of the helium vapour atoms the interference of paths of
duration is damped by a factor . An expression is
derived for the weak-localization lineshape in the case that damping occurs by
a combination of processes with this type of cubic exponential damping and

Calcaneal nonunion: three cases and a review of the literature
The long-term follow-up of intra-articular calcaneal fractures is often accompanied by complications. Frequently occurring are arthrosis, arthrofibrosis of the subtalar joint, and malunion. Uncommon is the calcaneal nonunion. A total of three cases is presented in this report, including a review of the literature. The occurrence of a nonunion appears to be more common after conservative treatment, but the pathophysiology remains unclear, however smoking may play a role
Cross-cultural Adaptation and Validation of Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire on Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients
OBJECTIVES: Inadequate adaptation to long-term treatment of chronic illnesses is the most common reason for the inability to obtain the benefits medications can provide. Treatment compliance is influenced by several factors. Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ) developed by Horne et al. in 1999 to evaluate the cognitive representation of medicines have many validation studies, which resulted in good psychometric properties. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the BMQ Turkish translation in patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty asthma and 50 COPD patients participated in this methodological study. The scale was adapted to Turkish through translation, comparison with other language versions, back translation, and a pre-test. The structural validity was assessed using factor analysis. RESULTS: Similar to the original scale, factor analysis confirmed that BMQ had a four-factor structure that accounts for 58.23% of the total variance. The BMQ showed an acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficient: specific-necessity, 0.832: specific-concerns, 0.722; general-harm, 0.792; and general-overuse, 0.682). The factor analysis revealed the same patterns for all questions between the Turkish and original scales. CONCLUSION: The psychometric properties of the BMQ were consistent with those reported in the original study. We found that the Turkish translation of BMQ is a valid and reliable tool for assessing medicine-related beliefs in patients with asthma and COPD
Dephasing Times in a Non-degenerate Two-Dimensional Electron Gas
Studies of weak localization by scattering from vapor atoms for electrons on
a liquid helium surface are reported. There are three contributions to the
dephasing time. Dephasing by the motion of vapor atoms perpendicular to the
surface is studied by varying the holding field to change the characteristic
width of the electron layer at the surface. A change in vapor density alters
the quasi-elastic scattering length and the dephasing due to the motion of
atoms both perpendicular and parallel to the surface. Dephasing due to the
electron-electron interaction is dependent on the electron density.Comment: 4 pages, Revte

This study investigated the microstructures, mechanical performances, corrosion resistances, and in vitro studies of porous Ti-xNb-10Zr (x: 10 and 20; at. %) alloys. The alloys were fabricated by powder metallurgy with two categories of porosities, i.e., 21–25% and 50–56%, respectively. The space holder technique was employed to generate the high porosities. Microstructural analysis was performed by using various methods including scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, and x-ray diffraction. Corrosion resistance was assessed via electrochemical polarisation tests, while mechanical behavior was determined by uniaxial compressive tests. In vitro studies, such as cell viability and proliferation, adhesion potential, and genotoxicity, were examined by performing an MTT assay, fibronectin adsorption, and plasmid-DNA interaction assay. Experimental results showed that the alloys had a dual-phase microstructure composed of finely dispersed acicular hcp α-Ti needles in the bcc β-Ti matrix. The ultimate compressive strength ranged from 1019 MPa to 767 MPa for alloys with 21–25% porosities and from 173 MPa to 78 MPa for alloys with 50–56% porosities. Noted that adding a space holder agent played a more critical role in the mechanical behaviors of the alloys compared to adding niobium. The pores were largely open and exhibited irregular shapes, with uniform size distribution, allowing for cell ingrowth. Resistance fluctuations and Aharonov-Bohm-type oscillations in antidot arrays in the quantum Hall regime
Resistance fluctuation phenomenon in antidot lattices in the quantum Hall
regime are studied. Magnetoresistance of finite antidot array systems in the
quantum Hall plateau transition regime exhibits two types of oscillatory
effect. One is the aperiodic resistance fluctuations (RFs) and the other is the
Aharonov-Bohm (AB)-type oscillations. Their dependences on the magnetic field
and the gate voltage are quite distinct. While the aperiodic RFs are attributed
to the complex evolution of the conducting network of compressible channels,
the AB-type oscillations are interpreted in terms of edge states formed around
individual antidots. The self-consistent screening effect is important for the
both phenomenon, whereas, the single electron charging effect plays a minor

Global mortality and readmission rates following COPD exacerbation-related hospitalisation: a meta-analysis of 65 945 individual patients

Precise estimates of the global burden of ECOPD on mortality and hospital readmission are needed to inform policy makers and aid preventive strategies to mitigate this burden. The aims of the present study were to explore global in-hospital mortality, post-discharge mortality and hospital readmission rates after ECOPD-related hospitalisation using an individual patient data meta-analysis (IPDMA) design. Methods A systematic review was performed identifying studies that reported in-hospital mortality, postdischarge mortality and hospital readmission rates following ECOPD-related hospitalisation. Data analyses were conducted using a one-stage random-effects meta-analysis model. This study was conducted and reported in accordance with the PRISMA-IPD statement. Results Data of 65 945 individual patients with COPD were analysed. The pooled in-hospital mortality rate was 6.2%, pooled 30-, 90- and 365-day post-discharge mortality rates were 1.8%, 5.5% and 10.9%, respectively, and pooled 30-, 90- and 365-day hospital readmission rates were 7.1%, 12.6% and 32.1%, respectively, with noticeable variability between studies and countries. Strongest predictors of mortality and hospital readmission included noninvasive mechanical ventilation and a history of two or more ECOPD-related hospitalisation
