Cosmology in the Randall-Sundrum Brane World Scenario

    Get PDF
The cosmology of the Randall-Sundrum scenario for a positive tension brane in a 5-D Universe with localized gravity has been studied extensively recently. Here we extend it to more general situations. We consider the time-dependent situation where the two sides of the brane are different AdS/Schwarzschild spaces. We show that the expansion rate in these models during inflation could be larger than in brane worlds with compactified extra dimensions of fixed size. The enhanced expansion rate could lead to the production of density perturbations of substantially larger amplitude.Comment: 11 pages, revte

[Verse 1]The moon is beaming brightly love, Upon the deep blue seaA trusty crew is waiting near,For thee, dear girl, for thee! Then leave thy downy couch, my love, And with thy sailor flee; His gallant bark shall bear thee safe,Far o\u27er the deep blue sea,Far o\u27er the deep, the deep blue sea. [Verse 2]The storm-bird sleeps upon the rockNo angry surges roarNo sound disturbs the slumb\u27ring deepNot e\u27en the dipping oar:No watchful eye is on thee now,Then, dearest, hie with me,And share a daring sailor\u27s love,Far o\u27er the deep blue sea. [Verse 3]She comes! she comes! with trembling stepOh! happy shall we beWhen safely moor\u27d, on other shores,From ev\u27ry danger free! Now, speed thee on my trusty bark,Our hopes are all on theeBear, bear, us to our peaceful homeFar o\u27er the deep blue sea

Two gamma quarkonium and positronium decays with Two-Body Dirac equations of constraint dynamics

    Get PDF
Two-Body Dirac equations of constraint dynamics provide a covariant framework to investigate the problem of highly relativistic quarks in meson bound states. This formalism eliminates automatically the problems of relative time and energy, leading to a covariant three dimensional formalism with the same number of degrees of freedom as appears in the corresponding nonrelativistic problem. It provides bound state wave equations with the simplicity of the nonrelativistic Schroedinger equation. Unlike other three-dimensional truncations of the Bethe-Salpeter equation, this covariant formalism has been thoroughly tested in nonperturbatives contexts in QED, QCD, and nucleon-nucleon scattering. Here we continue the important studies of this formalism by extending a method developed earlier for positronium decay into two photons to tests on the sixteen component quarkonium wave function solutions obtained in meson spectroscopy. We examine positronium decay and then the two-gamma quarkonium decays of eta_c, eta'_c, chi_0c, chi_2c, and pi-zero The results for the pi-zero, although off the experimental rate by 13%, is much closer than the usual expectations from a potential model.Comment: 4 pages. Non-Tradable Share Reform in China: Marching Towards the Berle and Means Corporation?

    Get PDF
In the late 1970s, China initiated gaige kaifang, the twin strategies of reform and opening-up the economy. In the following three decades, the Chinese leaders have been very cautious during China’s transition from a planned economy to a market economy. In every reform move, reformers have arguably taken a “one big leap forward but one step backward” approach. State-owned enterprises were successfully transformed into joint stock companies and two stock exchanges were established in the early 1990s. At the same time, a split share structure was created. The majority of shares have been non-tradable. In 2005, to address the problems caused by non-tradable shares, a reform was introduced to unwind these shares. However, at the same time, the government expressly said that “making all shares tradable does not mean selling out all shares”. The reform became merely a technical change. Apart from the state’s reluctance, the rise of dispersed ownership in China is now a possibility, rather than legally impossible. In the aftermath of the credit crisis, is moving along the Anglo-American path making any sense? Or should China remain where it is? In summary, this paper intends to provide readers with an overview of the past, present and future of the ownership structure problem in China

Chicago Dec. 16/1898John MuirMartinez Cal.My dear SirYour kind letter of 9th was in yesterday. Many thanks for the same. I assure you that we will try to place it where it will do the birds the most good . Yet I am free to state that, while we greatly need funds, I had much rather have rec. an article from your pen. We shall hope for the latter, after your rush is somewhat over. We have formed an organization of two, to try to do something for the birds. Miss Grove is one of the class of assistant editors, who work for an assistants salary, yet do all the work of the Editor in Chief - who spends most of his time in travel and addressing conventions: etc. The Epworth Herald is an organ of the Epworth League, and has a subscriptine list of over 115,000. Please accept the gratitude of Miss Grove - to whom I reported your generosity. We hope to obtain a consider02516 able amt of fresh and original literature in favor or bird preservation - and relating to birds: this matter we propose to set up in proof shape, and send these proofs to a large number of news and syndicate papers - so as to secure a circulation of two or three million copies. This is an idea of a campaign of education. Then we shall try to reach farmers through the [illegible] and home , as well as religious papers; also the state legislatures, as far as may be, in order to try to influence favorable legislation. Bills are now pending in Congress, favorable to birds. Where there is a vast number of [illegible] and other societies - farmer\u27s, women\u27s, and other sorts of clubs - schools both secular and religious, and many other organizations which can be marked in favor of birds. This is the idea - but the laborers (as well as the funds) are few. However, if we can get a start, I hope both the workers and the cash, will be more plenty.Hoping you many yet favor us with an article, and secure other writers for us, I remain, with the compliments of the seasonHorace H. Chicago Jan 1899John MuirMy Dear SirWith this please find the first fruits of your generous contribution to the cause of the birds or what will be when sent out. This article of Mr. Dutcher\u27s was set up in this form, with the intention of sending the same to all the [Agl.?] papers of the country, to serve as copy ; it is just off the press. Just at this point (after letters had been written, and envelopes addressed to the [Agl.?] papers,) comes a letter from Mr. Lacey (Member from Iowa) saying that the bills in the Senate and the House has been joined, and the dual bill sent to a com. of conference this seems to be the critical time: so I wrote to Mr. Lacey and to Senator Hoar,02538 offering them the use of these slips as campaign documents, to use among the Members and Senators: so if they are wanted to Congress, another lot will be printed to send to the press. Mrs. Reginald de Koven (wife of the operatic composer, and daughter of Mr. Farmwell) has offered to write an article for a magazine, if I will secure publication. Can you offer any suggestions as to best method of doing this? What do you think of the argument in Mr. Dutchers article. I paid for printing this article, so as to save your remittance entirely for postage. Still hoping to receive an article from your pen, I remainYours trulyH. H Waters0253
