Proposed realization of the Dicke-model quantum phase transition in an optical cavity QED system
The Dicke model describing an ensemble of two-state atoms interacting with a single quantized mode of the electromagnetic field (with omission of the Â^2 term) exhibits a zero-temperature phase transition at a critical value of the dipole coupling strength. We propose a scheme based on multilevel atoms and cavity-mediated Raman transitions to realize an effective Dicke model operating in the phase transition regime. Optical light from the cavity carries signatures of the critical behavior, which is analyzed for the thermodynamic limit where the number of atoms is very large
Multi-strange baryon production in Au+Au collisions at top RHIC energy as a probe of bulk properties
We report STAR preliminary results on multi-strange baryon production in
Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV at RHIC. Its implication for the
formation of a new state of matter is discussed. The system size dependence on
the production of strange baryons is investigated to study the onset of strange
quark equilibration in the medium. The nuclear modification factor of Lambda,
Xi and Omega is also presented. Its suppression at p_T>3 GeV/c supports the
formation of a dense interacting medium at RHIC. The spectra of multi-strange
baryons reveal that within a hydro-inspired model, they may decouple prior than
lighter particles and that their flow may be mostly developed at a partonic
level. This idea is emphasized by the measurement of the v_2 of Xi+AntiXi and
Omega+AntiOmega whose behaviour is close to the Lambda+AntiLambda baryon
elliptic flow in the intermediate p_T region where a constituent quark scaling

Optical signatures of quantum phase transitions in a light-matter system
Information about quantum phase transitions in conventional condensed matter
systems, must be sought by probing the matter system itself. By contrast, we
show that mixed matter-light systems offer a distinct advantage in that the
photon field carries clear signatures of the associated quantum critical
phenomena. Having derived an accurate, size-consistent Hamiltonian for the
photonic field in the well-known Dicke model, we predict striking behavior of
the optical squeezing and photon statistics near the phase transition. The
corresponding dynamics resemble those of a degenerate parametric amplifier. Our
findings boost the motivation for exploring exotic quantum phase transition
phenomena in atom-cavity, nanostructure-cavity, and
nanostructure-photonic-band-gap systems.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Myoclonic status epilepticus and cerebellar hypoplasia associated with a novel variant in the GRIA3 gene
AMPA-type glutamate receptors (AMPARs) are postsynaptic ionotropic receptors which mediate fast excitatory currents. AMPARs have a heterotetrameric structure, variably composed by the four subunits GluA1-4 which are encoded by genes GRIA1-4. Increasing evidence support the role of pathogenic variants in GRIA1-4 genes as causative for syndromic intellectual disability (ID). We report an Italian pedigree where some male individuals share ID, seizures and facial dysmorphisms. The index subject was referred for severe ID, myoclonic seizures, cerebellar signs and short stature. Whole exome sequencing identified a novel variant in GRIA3, c.2360A > G, p.(Glu787Gly). The GRIA3 gene maps to chromosome Xq25 and the c.2360A > G variant was transmitted by his healthy mother. Subsequent analysis in the family showed a segregation pattern compatible with the causative role of this variant, further supported by preliminary functional insights. We provide a detailed description of the clinical evolution of the index subjects and stress the relevance of myoclonic seizures and cerebellar syndrome as cardinal features of his presentation
Instanton moduli spaces and bases in coset conformal field theory
Recently proposed relation between conformal field theories in two dimensions
and supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions predicts the existence of
the distinguished basis in the space of local fields in CFT. This basis has a
number of remarkable properties, one of them is the complete factorization of
the coefficients of the operator product expansion. We consider a particular
case of the U(r) gauge theory on C^2/Z_p which corresponds to a certain coset
conformal field theory and describe the properties of this basis. We argue that
in the case p=2, r=2 there exist different bases. We give an explicit
construction of one of them. For another basis we propose the formula for

Hierarchical structure in the orbital entanglement spectrum in Fractional Quantum Hall systems
We investigate the non-universal part of the orbital entanglement spectrum
(OES) of the nu = 1/3 fractional quantum Hall effect (FQH) ground-state with
Coulomb interactions. The non-universal part of the spectrum is the part that
is missing in the Laughlin model state OES whose level counting is completely
determined by its topological order. We find that the OES levels of the Coulomb
interaction ground-state are organized in a hierarchical structure that mimic
the excitation-energy structure of the model pseudopotential Hamiltonian which
has a Laughlin ground state. These structures can be accurately modeled using
Jain's "composite fermion" quasihole-quasiparticle excitation wavefunctions. To
emphasize the connection between the entanglement spectrum and the energy
spectrum, we also consider the thermodynamical OES of the model pseudopotential
Hamiltonian at finite temperature. The observed good match between the
thermodynamical OES and the Coulomb OES suggests a relation between the
entanglement gap and the true energy gap.Comment: 16 pages, 19 figure
Total Absorption Spectroscopy Study of Rb Decay: A Major Contributor to Reactor Antineutrino Spectrum Shape
The antineutrino spectra measured in recent experiments at reactors are
inconsistent with calculations based on the conversion of integral beta spectra
recorded at the ILL reactor. Rb makes the dominant contribution to the
reactor spectrum in the 5-8 MeV range but its decay properties are in question.
We have studied Rb decay with total absorption spectroscopy. Previously
unobserved beta feeding was seen in the 4.5-5.5 region and the GS to GS feeding
was found to be 87.5(25)%. The impact on the reactor antineutrino spectra
calculated with the summation method is shown and discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
Effect of photoperiod on sexual activity of boar
The main objective of this study was to assess the effect of photoperiod on sexual activity of three breeds of boars: Swedish Landrace (n=34), Large White (n=38), and Duroc (n=32). Boar sexual activity was analysed based on the libido index and intensity of ejaculation. The libido index was calculated as the ratio between the duration of ejaculation and time of preparation until ejaculation. The intensity of ejaculation was the volume of ejaculate (mL) secreted in the unit of time (min). The effect of photoperiod was analysed as the effect of duration of daylight ( lt 12 h and >12 h) within photoperiod intervals (increasing and decreasing). Impact assessment was carried out by applying the General Linear Model procedure. Libido and intensity of ejaculation varied under the impact of photoperiod and the breed of boars. With the increase in age, the boar libido weakened, while the volume of ejaculate and intensity of ejaculation increased. Boars manifested better libido when the daylight lasted longer than 12 h in both photoperiod intervals. Different from libido, the volume of ejaculate and intensity of ejaculation were highest when the daylight was shorter than 12 h, but only in the decreasing photoperiod interval. Swedish Landrace boars manifested best libido, while in the production of sperm the Duroc boars were inferior compared with Swedish Landrace and Large White. The phenotypic relationship among libido, ejaculate volume, and ejaculation intensity ranges from very low to high; however, the coefficients were positive, which indicates the possibility of simultaneous improvement of these traits
Virasoro constraint for Nekrasov instanton partition function
We show that Nekrasov instanton partition function for SU(N) gauge theories
satisfies recursion relations in the form of U(1)+Virasoro constraints when
{\beta} = 1. The constraints give a direct support for AGT conjecture for

Measurements of Dihadron Correlations Relative to the Event Plane in Au+Au Collisions at GeV
Dihadron azimuthal correlations containing a high transverse momentum (\pt)
trigger particle are sensitive to the properties of the nuclear medium created
at RHIC through the strong interactions occurring between the traversing parton
and the medium, i.e. jet-quenching. Previous measurements revealed a strong
modification to dihadron azimuthal correlations in Au+Au collisions with
respect to \pp\ and \dAu\ collisions. The modification increases with the
collision centrality, suggesting a path-length dependence to the jet-quenching
effect. This paper reports STAR measurements of dihadron azimuthal correlations
in mid-central (20-60\%) Au+Au collisions at \snn=200~GeV as a function of
the trigger particle's azimuthal angle relative to the event plane,
\phis=|\phit-\psiEP|. The azimuthal correlation is studied as a function of
both the trigger and associated particle \pt. The subtractions of the
combinatorial background and anisotropic flow, assuming Zero Yield At Minimum
(\zyam), are described. The away-side correlation is strongly modified, and the
modification varies with \phis, which is expected to be related to the
path-length that the away-side parton traverses. The pseudo-rapidity (\deta)
dependence of the near-side correlation, sensitive to long range \deta
correlations (the ridge), is also investigated. The ridge and jet-like
components of the near-side correlation are studied as a function of \phis.
The ridge appears to drop with increasing \phis while the jet-like component
