    Importance of Technological Innovation for SME Growth: Evidence from India

    This paper probes the drivers, dimensions, achievements, and outcomes of technological innovations carried out by SMEs in the auto components, electronics, and machine tool sectors of Bangalore in India. Further, it ascertains the growth rates of innovative SMEs vis-à-vis non-innovative SMEs in terms of sales turnover, employment, and investment. Thereafter, it probes the relationship between innovation and growth of SMEs by (i) estimating a correlation between innovation sales and sales growth, (ii) calculating innovation sales for high, medium, and low growth innovative SMEs and doing a aggregate one-way ANOVA, and (iii) ascertaining the influence of innovation sales, along with investment growth and employment growth on gross value-added growth by means of multiple regression analysis.     Vectorial Potential of Cockroaches in Transmitting Parasites of Medical Importance in Arkilla, Sokoto, Nigeria

    A study was conducted to determine the role of cockroaches as potential carriers of parasites of medical importance in Arkilla Federal Low Cost, Sokoto, Nigeria from October 2011 to February 2012. A total of 218 cockroaches, comprising of two species were collected from different locations using sweep net and examined for human intestinal parasites using the concentration method. The dominant cockroach species was Periplaneta americana 145 (66.51%) followed by Blatta orientalis 73 (33.49%). Six medically important parasites were encountered in the following order Entamoeba histolytica (40.83%), Ascaris lumbricoides (28.40%), Enterobius Vermicularis (15.98%), Schistosoma mansoni (9.48%), S. haematobium (2.95%) and Trichuris trichura (2.36%). There was no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) in the isolates between cockroach species and stage of development. However significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed between sexes and sites of cockroach collection. Therefore, as cockroaches continue to constitute important reservoir for infectious pathogens, control measures instituted in toilets, kitchens; and targeting especially the females and both stages of development of cockroach could substantially minimize the spread of infectious diseases in the study area

    High magnetoresistance at room temperature in p-i-n graphene nanoribbons due to band-to-band tunneling effects

    A large magnetoresistance effect is obtained at room-temperature by using p-i-n armchair-graphene-nanoribbon (GNR) heterostructures. The key advantage is the virtual elimination of thermal currents due to the presence of band gaps in the contacts. The current at B=0T is greatly decreased while the current at B>0T is relatively large due to the band-to-band tunneling effects, resulting in a high magnetoresistance ratio, even at room-temperature. Moreover, we explore the effects of edge-roughness, length, and width of GNR channels on device performance. An increase in edge-roughness and channel length enhances the magnetoresistance ratio while increased channel width can reduce the operating bias.Comment: http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.362445

    Conditions for the Quantum to Classical Transition: Trajectories vs. Phase Space Distributions

    We contrast two sets of conditions that govern the transition in which classical dynamics emerges from the evolution of a quantum system. The first was derived by considering the trajectories seen by an observer (dubbed the ``strong'' transition) [Bhattacharya, et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 85: 4852 (2000)], and the second by considering phase-space densities (the ``weak'' transition) [Greenbaum, et al., Chaos 15, 033302 (2005)]. On the face of it these conditions appear rather different. We show, however, that in the semiclassical regime, in which the action of the system is large compared to \hbar, and the measurement noise is small, they both offer an essentially equivalent local picture. Within this regime, the weak conditions dominate while in the opposite regime where the action is not much larger than Planck's constant, the strong conditions dominate.Comment: 8 pages, 2 eps figure

    In this paper 190 contribution were analysed from “Annals of Library & Information Science” published during 2015 to 2020. The data collection was done by downloading the articles from the website of the journal. It examined year wise & Volume wise distribution of articles, authorship pattern, state wise distribution of contributions, length of the articles, references etc. A total of 190 articles have published by 349 authors during this period of time. Out of 190 articles multiple authors contributed 121 (63.68%) while the rest of the articles 69 (36.31%) were contributed by single author. The research paper in this journal mainly confined to India, 144 (75.78%) articles were contributed by Indian authors while rest of the articles were contributed by foreign authors. This paper also examined year wise degree of collaboration, page length of articles and state wise contribution of articles

    Parameter scaling in the decoherent quantum-classical transition for chaotic systems

    The quantum to classical transition has been shown to depend on a number of parameters. Key among these are a scale length for the action, \hbar, a measure of the coupling between a system and its environment, DD, and, for chaotic systems, the classical Lyapunov exponent, λ\lambda. We propose computing a measure, reflecting the proximity of quantum and classical evolutions, as a multivariate function of (,λ,D)(\hbar,\lambda,D) and searching for transformations that collapse this hyper-surface into a function of a composite parameter ζ=αλβDγ\zeta = \hbar^{\alpha}\lambda^{\beta}D^{\gamma}. We report results for the quantum Cat Map, showing extremely accurate scaling behavior over a wide range of parameters and suggest that, in general, the technique may be effective in constructing universality classes in this transition.Comment: Submitte
