    Execution of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (1994) in the Construction Industry from Contractors’ Point of View

    Construction is one of the highest contributing industries to occupational accidents by sector in Malaysia. Statistics have been drawn from year to year that show an increasing number of cases of accidents by industry sector. While it is impossible to completely eliminate all accidents, with a proper and effective safety and health policy or rules set by top management, especially contractors, the rate of accidents on construction sites can be reduced. The main objective of this study is to analyse the degree of application of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (OSHA 1994) in the construction industry and to identify the contributing factors leading to a lack of execution of OSHA 1994 on construction sites with a primary focus on contractors’ point of view. Five on-going construction projects in Perak were selected as case studies and site inspections were conducted. The results showed that none of the contractors have fully implemented the rules and regulations provided by the government. Within this report, some recommendations are made towards enhancing the safety and health issues on construction sites

    Self-adjustment is  the process of the results of a group or individual facing a new situation in the environment and whose behavior can be accepted in living together with the surrounding community.  The purpose of this study is to find out how the design picture of diri Students of the Faculty of Psychology who are actively involved in student organizations. This research usesqualitative  research, a research method that has the aim of promoting an understanding of human experience, interaction, and behavior patterns.  The technique used in this study  is the snowball sampling technique  with a total of five subjects that have characteristics  The qualitative research method used is phenomenology which has the characteristics of students aged 20-22 years, active students, experiencing insufficient self-adjustment. Data collection techniques were carried out with semi-structured interviews and direct observation. Data analysis techniques used in this study, namely data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions. The data credibility used in this study is a data credibility test with a type of source triangulation testing and engineering traingulation

    Passively mode-locked laser using an entirely centred erbium-doped fiber

    This paper describes the setup and experimental results for an entirely centred erbium-doped fiber laser with passively mode-locked output. The gain medium of the ring laser cavity configuration comprises a 3 m length of two-core optical fiber, wherein an undoped outer core region of 9.38 μm diameter surrounds a 4.00 μm diameter central core region doped with erbium ions at 400 ppm concentration. The generated stable soliton mode-locking output has a central wavelength of 1533 nm and pulses that yield an average output power of 0.33 mW with a pulse energy of 31.8 pJ. The pulse duration is 0.7 ps and the measured output repetition rate of 10.37 MHz corresponds to a 96.4 ns pulse spacing in the pulse train

    Short term durability of steel-strap confined concrete

    Steel strapping tensioning technique (SSTT) confinement has been proven as a type of external confinement to retrofit and upgrade concrete structures. Their remarkable enhancement to concrete mechanical properties, practicing active lateral confinement, low cost, easy to operate, time saving and no structure interruption during application have brought this technique as of the most affordable technique for column confinement, especially for high strength concrete (HSC) which naturally behaves insufficient in ductility. Although a great number of previous studies have demonstrated the performance of SSTT confinement, there are several anxieties related to the long term behaviour of SSTT confined columns which have yet been implemented especially in real hostile condition. Environmental effects, such as ultraviolet radiation exposure and saline solution (sea water) may affect the confining material properties, and therefore decrease the performance of the confined columns. In this study a total of twenty HSC specimens with dimension of 100 mm and 200 mm in diameter and height respectively were prepared, volumetric-identically pre-tensioned with steel strap and exposed to three conditions: indoor, outdoor and saline water for three months. The exposed specimens were monotonically tested and their performance was studied through the stress-strain relationship, mode of failure and degree of corrosion. The results show that none of the forenamed environmental conditions have exaggerating influence on the performance of the SSTT confined concrete specimens even some material has been severely corroded. It is then parallel compared with existing FRP confinement studies and the result proves that SSTT confinement able to possess the highest strength performance under similar environmental exposure

    Maksud dan tujuan dari penelitian ini yakni untuk mengetahui kendala dalam pelaksanaan ujian teori Penerimaan Siswa Baru, dengan memanfaatkan media interaktif berbasis web, sehingga pemanfaatan teknologi berbasis web dapat menjadi solusi sebagai media interaktif sekarang ini. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, alat bantu yang digunakan antara lain Flowchart dan SiteMap (Peta Situs), serta Spesifikasi Kebutuhan Sistem perangkat lunak yang digunakan antara lain menggunakan Database MySQL, Web Developer menggunakan PHP, Editor dan Web Design, dan Image Processing menggunakan Adobe Photoshop. Adapun metode pengumpulan data menggunakan studi lapangan yang terdiri dari pengamatan langsung (observasi) dan wawancara serta studi pustaka. Dari hasil implementasi sistem, bahwa dengan penggunaan website ini dapat membantu dalam pelaksanaan ujian teori penerimaan siswa baru dari ujian konvensional menjadi ujian online oleh calon siswa baru. Sehingga input data peserta, koreksi soal, rekap nilai semua sudah terkomputerisasi yang ditampilkan berbasis Intranet yang cukup dinamis

    Biodegradable Poly(D,L-lactic-co-glycolic acid)-Based Micro/Nanoparticles for Sustained Release of Protein Drugs - A Review

    Biodegradable poly(D, L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and PLGA-based polymeric nanoparticles are widely used for sustained release of protein and peptide drugs. These formulations are usually prepared by water/oil/water (W/O/W) and solid/oil/water (S/O/W) double emulsion solvent evaporation method. Other methods of preparation are nanoprecipitation, emulsion solvent diffusion and salting-out. This review attempts to address the effects of PLGA molecular weight, lactide to glycolide ratio, crystallinity, hydrophilicity as well as nanoparticles preparation variables (e.g., homogenizer speed, surfactants nature and concentration) on the size, morphology, drug encapsulation efficiency and release profile of PLGA mico/nanoparticles.     Beberapa tahun belakangan ini telah terjadi perkembangan pesat dalam teknologi telepon seluler. Salah satunya adalah perkembangan dari telepon pintar dengan banyak fitur dan juga sistem operasi yang kompleks serupa dengan sebuah komputer. Walaupun telepon pintar memiliki banyak fitur yang termasuk di dalamnya sistem operasi, tetapi SMS tetap populer untuk digunakan. Fitur SMS yang masih digunakan hingga saat ini, memunculkan pertanyaan tentang keamanan informasi jika seseorang ingin mengirimkan informasi rahasia melalui fasilitas SMS. Kemudahan pertukaran informasi melalui SMS disalahgunakan oleh beberapa orang. Beberapa orang dengan berbagai cara mencoba untuk mencuri informasi secara ilegal. Oleh karena itu, kita membutuhkan suatu cara untuk mengamankan informasi yang bersifat rahasia dan penting. Proses enkripsi dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan tingkat keamanan informasi dan teks pesan SMS. Sekarang, AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) digunakan sebagai standar untuk algoritma kriptografi. Oleh karena itu, ini dapat digunakan untuk mengembangkan aplikasi SMS dengan enkripsi teks menggunakan algoritma AES. Aplikasi berbasis mobile dibangun pada platform android. Hasil uji menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi dapat menjalankan enkripsi sebuah pesan teks pendek kepada nomor tujuan tertentu dan tidak dapat mendekripsi pesan yang terenkripsi. aplikasi dapat membantu pengguna untuk mengirim pesan singkat dengan aman, cepat, dan mudah
