Initial treatment strategy and clinical outcomes in Finnish MS patients : a propensity-matched study
Background The optimal treatment strategy with disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) remains uncertain. Objective To compare outcomes of initial treatment with infusion therapies and starting therapy with medium efficacy therapy in a propensity-matched cohort of Finnish RRMS patients. Methods A total of 154 RRMS patients initiating natalizumab, alemtuzumab, ocrelizumab or rituximab as first DMT (high efficacy DMT, heDMT group) and 1771 patients initially treated with injectable therapies, teriflunomide or dimethylfumarate and escalated based on disease activity (moderate efficacy DMT, meDMT group) were identified from the Finnish MS registry. Nearest neighbor propensity matching (1:1, caliper 0.1) was performed for age, sex, baseline Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), annual relapse rate (ARR) one year prior DMT and time since MS symptom onset. Primary outcome was time to 6-month confirmed EDSS progression and the secondary outcome time to first relapse. Results In the propensity-matched group comparisons, the probability of 6-month confirmed disability progression (CDP) at 5 years after DMT start was 28.4% (95% CI 15.7-39.3) in the heDMT group (n = 66) and 47.0% (95% CI 33.1-58.1) in meDMT group (n = 66), p = 0.013. Probability of relapse at 5 years was 34.6% (95% CI 24.1-43.6) for heDMT (n = 105) and 47.2% (95% CI 36.6-56.1) for meDMT (n = 105), p = 0.019. Conclusions Initiating MS-therapy with heDMT significantly reduced the risk of 5-year disability progression and relapse compared to using meDMT as first DMT choice in propensity-matched groups of Finnish MS-patients.Peer reviewe
Organic egg production in Finland - animal health, welfare and food safety issues
A total of 20 out of 23 commercial organic layer farms took part in the research. Data were collected through observation and by interviewing the producer, using a semi-structured interview guide. Laying hen welfare was estimated using environment-based and animal-based methods. Fresh faecal samples were collected from the floor for analysis of campylobacter and salmonella bacteria and for internal parasite identification
Deep inelastic scattering in the dipole picture at next-to-leading order
We study quantitatively the importance of the recently derived next-to-leading-order corrections to the deep inelastic scattering structure functions at small x in the dipole formalism. We show that these corrections can be significant and depend on the factorization scheme used to resum large logarithms of energy into renormalization group evolution with the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation. This feature is similar to what has recently been observed for single inclusive forward hadron production. Using a factorization scheme consistent with the one recently proposed for the single inclusive cross section, we show that it is possible to obtain meaningful results for the deep inelastic scattering cross sections.Peer reviewe
Diffractive structure function in the dipole picture
We calculate the contribution from the component of a virtual
photon state to the small- diffractive cross section in deep inelastic
scattering in the saturation regime. The obtained cross section is finite by
itself and a part of the full next-to-leading order result. We perform the
calculation in exact kinematics in the eikonal limit, and show that the
previously known high virtuality and large invariant mass results
for the structure functions can be extracted. We furthermore discuss the steps

Diffractive Deep Inelastic Scattering in the Dipole Picture at Next-to-Leading Order
We calculate the contribution from the state production to the
diffractive cross sections in deep inelastic scattering at high energy. The
obtained cross section is finite by itself, and consists a part of the full
next-to-leading order result for the diffractive structure functions. Our
calculation for the diffractive structure functions is performed using exact
kinematics, under the shockwave approximation of the scattering process. Once
the calculation is completed, we show that the previously known behaviour at
the high- and large- regime can be extracted from our results by
taking the appropriate limits. Furthermore, we discuss the steps required to
obtain the complete next-to-leading order results for the structure functions
in the color glass condensate (CGC) formalism, and the application of these

Turbulent Vortex Flow Responses at the AB Interface in Rotating Superfluid 3He-B
In a rotating two-phase sample of 3He-B and magnetic-field stabilized 3He-A
the large difference in mutual friction dissipation at 0.20 Tc gives rise to
unusual vortex flow responses. We use noninvasive NMR techniques to monitor
spin down and spin up of the B-phase superfluid component to a sudden change in
the rotation velocity. Compared to measurements at low field with no A-phase,
where these responses are laminar in cylindrically symmetric flow, spin down
with vortices extending across the AB interface is found to be faster,
indicating enhanced dissipation from turbulence. Spin up in turn is slower,
owing to rapid annihilation of remanent vortices before the rotation increase.
As confirmed by both our NMR signal analysis and vortex filament calculations,
these observations are explained by the additional force acting on the B-phase
vortex ends at the AB interface.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure
The effect of milk feeding method on calves' behavioural sleep
Our aim was to study how calves' sleep could be affected by the milk feeding and housing methods.
