Exploring the Notion of Forgetting
Ignorance and forgetting are similar in some regards, as both involve a state of not knowing. Often forgetting, like ignorance, can put us at a disadvantage in regards to a lack of retaining knowledge. Forgetting can lead to ignorance if not realized and remedied. However, just as ignorance is more than a lack of knowledge, forgetting is more than a lack of remembrance. There are many kinds of forgetting, each with different kinds memories lost and purposes served. Despite the inherent risks of forgetting, there are advantages, ones that make forgetting an essential part of human cognition. In fact, without the ability to forget, we could never remember

Pathways into homelessness among post 9/11 era veterans

It is not the copy of record.Despite the scale of veteran homelessness and government–community initiatives to end homelessness among veterans, few studies have featured individual veteran accounts of experiencing homelessness. Here we track veterans’ trajectories from military service to homelessness through qualitative, semistructured interviews with 17 post-9/11-era veterans. Our objective was to examine how veterans become homeless—including the role of military and postmilitary experiences—and how they negotiate and attempt to resolve episodes of homelessness. We identify and report results in 5 key thematic areas: transitioning from military service to civilian life, relationships and employment, mental and behavioral health, lifetime poverty and adverse events, and use of veteran-specific services. We found that veterans predominantly see their homelessness as rooted in nonmilitary, situational factors such as unemployment and the breakup of relationships, despite very tangible ties between homelessness and combat sequelae that manifest themselves in clinical diagnoses such as posttraumatic stress disorder. Furthermore, although assistance provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and community-based organizations offer a powerful means for getting veterans rehoused, veterans also recount numerous difficulties in accessing and obtaining VA services and assistance. Based on this, we offer specific recommendations for more systematic and efficient measures to help engage veterans with VA services that can prevent or attenuate their homelessness
Model-independent Study of Electric Dipole Transitions in Quarkonium
The paper contains a systematic, model-independent treatment of electric
dipole (E1) transitions in heavy quarkonium. Within the effective field theory
framework of potential non-relativistic QCD (pNRQCD), we derive the complete
set of relativistic corrections of relative order v^2 both for weakly and
strongly-coupled quarkonia. The result supports and complements former results

Pertinent fire detection and extinguishment references have been identified to further the knowledge of spacecraft fire safety. To broaden the scope of the bibliography, other unusual environments, e.g., aircraft, submarine, ship, have been included. In addition, for a more comprehensive view of the spacecraft fire safety problem, selected subjects are included, e.g., materials flammability, smoke, human behavior. The references will provide the researcher with access to state-of-the-art and historic works. Selected references from the 1960's have been included, but the emphasis is on references published from 1975 to 1987. The references are arranged by very broad categories. Often a paper will cover more than one topic, but for the purposes of this bibliography it will be cited only once
Water Requirement of Sugarcane and Its Relation with the Springkle and Drip Irrigation System
During vegetative growth period, sugarcane required a lot of water but decreasing afterward and minimum at ripening period. Sugarcane water requirement was calculated by radiation method and USDA (1969) method was used to determinate effective rainfall. Average of monthly actual evapotranspiration (ETa) was calculated by the available soil water index. The total of water requirement of sugarcane (1-12 month) was around 37.38 mmlmonth to 143.22 mmlmonth. The highest water requirement was found at age of 4 to 9 month, while the lowest was in the ripening period. Accordingly drip irrigation should be operated at maximum water use of about 3.96 mm/day, or by sprinkle irrigation not less than 118.70 mm/mounth
