THE THERMAL DIFFUSIVITY MEASUREMENT OF ANTHRACITE BY THE FLASH METHOD IN THE GREEN AND CALCINED STATE
Since introducing of the flash method of thermal diffusivity measurement, a large scale of devices and evaluation
methods has been developed with various levels of sophistication. Widening the application field of the method is going on
continuously and thanks to the computer technology available today, the evaluation of experiments and the determination
of thermal parameters can be performed in the case of non-ideal measurement data. With the help of the classical solution
of the heat conduction equation, we give a short analysis of influencing factors like the sample thickness-to-diameter ratio,
the heat losses, the effect of the flash duration and prolonged heat penetration on the front side. The knowledge of the
anthracite properties is essential in the determination of the thermal characteristics of packed coal beds. Because of the
unavailability of these data for coals of different origin, the author´s
objective was to test whether the flash method is
applicable for determining the thermal diffusivity of anthracite. A number of anthracite grains with different size were
embedded in acrylic resin and after cutting and polishing we got the proper specimens. Samples were made with layers
both parallel and perpendicular to the direction of the energy input. The thermal diffusivities in the parallel and the
perpendicular directions are characteristically different. While this
difference is only around 30% in the green state, it has
been increased to about 300% or more for some samples in the calcined state
Thermophysical properties of porous mineral-resin composites determined by a transient measurement technique
Due to the continuous development of material sciences there is a constant demand to determine the thermophysical properties of new materials especially in the field of polymer technology. The temperature dependent volumetric heat capacity and thermal conductivity of two different porous mineral-resin composites were measured simultaneously by a transient technique developed by the authors. The technique includes one transient measurement and a genetic algorithm based evaluation method. We shortly present the principle of the technique and the measurement process and results for the two materials. The applied measurement technique can reduce the time consumption and the costs of the measurements compared to other well-known methods
What is thermodynamics and what is it for?
Thermodynamics – contrary to its name – is not a dynamic theory. However, some relatively new developments, like finite time, endo-reversible or ordinary thermodynamics introduce time into thermostatics. In this framework the Second Law becomes a set of conditions ensuring the asymptotic stability of equilibrium. In this manuscript some examples are shown, how this basic conceptual change can lead to a profound understanding
Emergence of non-Fourier hierarchies
The non-Fourier heat conduction phenomenon on room temperature is analyzed
from various aspects. The first one shows its experimental side, in what form
it occurs and how we treated it. It is demonstrated that the Guyer-Krumhansl
equation can be the next appropriate extension of Fourier's law for room
temperature phenomena in modeling of heterogeneous materials. The second
approach provides an interpretation of generalized heat conduction equations
using a simple thermomechanical background. Here, Fourier heat conduction is
coupled to elasticity via thermal expansion, resulting in a particular
generalized heat equation for the temperature field. Both of the aforementioned
approaches show the size dependency of non-Fourier heat conduction. Finally, a
third approach is presented, called pseudo-temperature modeling. It is shown
that non-Fourier temperature history can be produced by mixing different
solutions of Fourier's law. That kind of explanation indicates the
interpretation of underlying heat conduction mechanics behind non-Fourier
phenomena
A zöldjelzáloghitelek kockázati különbségei szakpolitikai szempontból rendkívül fontosak, különösen a hagyományosan kockázatalapú tőkekövetelmények meghatározása szempontjából. Elméleti háttérként leírjuk, hogy milyen csatornákon keresztül képes a háztartások energiahatékonysága csökkenteni a nemteljesítési valószínűséget. E dekompozíció során megkülönböztetjük a rendelkezésre álló jövedelem hatását, a pénzügyi műveltséget, a vagyonhatást és a fedezetiérték-hatást. Elemezzük az energiahatékony háztartások megnövekedett rendelkezésre álló jövedelmének hatását a jelzáloghitelek nemteljesítési valószínűségére Magyarországon, ahol a jegybank kedvezményes tőkekövetelmény-programot vezetett be a zöldjelzáloghitelekre.
Characterization and first results of the planetary borehole-wall imager – methods to develop for in-situ exploration
Prototypes of borehole-wall imager instruments were developed and tested at a desert riverbed in Morocco and
at a lake’s salty flat in the Atacama desert, to support the drilling activity of ExoMars rover. The onsite recorded borehole images contain information on the context that are lost during the sample acquisition. Benefits of the borehole-wall imaging is the easier maximal energy estimation of a fluvial flow, the detailed information on sedimentation and layering, especially the former existence of liquid water and its temporal changes, including paleo-flow direction estimation from grain imbrication direction. Benefits of laboratory analysis of the acquired samples are the better identification of mineral types, determination of the level of maturity of granular sediment, and identification of the smallest, wet weathered grains. Based on the lessons learned during the comparison of field and laboratory results, we demonstrate that recording
the borehole-wall with optical instrument during/after drilling on Mars supports the paleo-environment reconstruction with such data that would otherwise be lost during the sample acquisition. Because of the lack of plate tectonism and the low geothermal gradient on Mars, even Ga old sediments provide observable features that are especially important for targeting Mars sample return and later crewed Mars missions
2017 júniusában a Wigner Fizikai Kutatóközpontban (Wigner FK) döntés
100. évfordulójának tiszteletére 2019-ben tartott Eötvös-év. Jelenlegi tanulmányunkban röviden áttekintjük a szükséges fi zikai alapismereteket, az előzményeket, beszámolunk a mérések előkészületeiről és a jelenlegi állapotáról
Comparative Study of Carbon Nanosphere and Carbon Nanopowder on Viscosity and Thermal Conductivity of Nanofluids
A comparative research on stability, viscosity (µ), and thermal conductivity (k) of carbon nanosphere (CNS) and carbon nanopowder (CNP) nanofluids was performed. CNS was synthesized by the hydrothermal method, while CNP was provided by the manufacturer. Stable nanofluids at high concentrations 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 vol% were prepared successfully. The properties of CNS and CNP nanoparticles were analyzed with Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), specific surface area (SBET), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). The CNP nanofluids have the highest k enhancement of 10.61% for 1.5 vol% concentration compared to the base fluid, while the CNS does not make the thermal conductivity of nanofluids (knf) significantly higher. The studied nanofluids were Newtonian. The relative µ of CNS and CNP nanofluids was 1.04 and 1.07 at 0.5 vol% concentration and 30 °C. These results can be explained by the different sizes and crystallinity of the used nanoparticles
