Scalar mesons in a linear sigma model with (axial-)vector mesons

The structure of the scalar mesons has been a subject of debate for many decades. In this work we look for qˉq\bar{q}q states among the physical resonances using an extended Linear Sigma Model that contains scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons both in the non-strange and strange sectors. We perform global fits of meson masses, decay widths and amplitudes in order to ascertain whether the scalar qˉq\bar{q}q states are below or above 1 GeV. We find the scalar states above 1 GeV to be preferred as qˉq\bar{q}q states.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure, To appear in the proceedings of the XII. Noble internal transport barriers and radial subdiffusion of toroidal magnetic lines

Single trajectories of magnetic line motion indicate the persistence of a central protected plasma core, surrounded by a chaotic shell enclosed in a double-sided transport barrier : the latter is identified as being composed of two Cantori located on two successive "most-noble" numbers values of the perturbed safety factor, and forming an internal transport barrier (ITB). Magnetic lines which succeed to escape across this barrier begin to wander in a wide chaotic sea extending up to a very robust barrier (as long as L<1) which is identified mathematically as a robust KAM surface at the plasma edge. In this case the motion is shown to be intermittent, with long stages of pseudo-trapping in the chaotic shell, or of sticking around island remnants, as expected for a continuous time random walk.Comment: TEX file, 84 pages including 32 color figures. Generalized Killing equations and Taub-NUT spinning space

The generalized Killing equations for the configuration space of spinning particles (spinning space) are analysed. Simple solutions of the homogeneous part of these equations are expressed in terms of Killing-Yano tensors. The general results are applied to the case of the four-dimensional euclidean Taub-NUT manifold.Comment: 10 pages, late

Probing nuclear expansion dynamics with π−/π+\pi^-/\pi^+-spectra

We study the dynamics of charged pions in the nuclear medium via the ratio of differential π−\pi^-- and π+\pi^+-spectra in a coupled-channel BUU (CBUU) approach. The relative energy shift of the charged pions is found to correlate with the pion freeze-out time in nucleus-nucleus collisions as well as with the impact parameter of the heavy-ion reaction. Furthermore, the long-range Coulomb force provides a 'clock' for the expansion of the hot nuclear system. Detailed comparisons with experimental data for Au+AuAu + Au at 1 GeV/A and Ni+NiNi + Ni at 2.0 GeV/A are presented.Comment: 21 pages, latex, figures include

Meson vacuum phenomenology in a three-flavor linear sigma model with (axial-)vector mesons

We study scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons with non-strange and strange quantum numbers in the framework of a linear sigma model with global chiral U(Nf)L×U(Nf)RU(N_f)_L \times U(N_f)_R symmetry. We perform a global fit of meson masses, decay widths, as well as decay amplitudes. The quality of the fit is, for a hadronic model that does not consider isospin-breaking effects, surprisingly good. We also investigate the question whether the scalar qˉq\bar{q}q states lie below or above 1 GeV and find the scalar states above 1 GeV to be preferred as qˉq\bar{q}q states. Additionally, we also describe the axial-vector resonances as qˉq\bar{q}q states.Comment: 29 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables. v2 is the updated version after referee remarks (dilaton field discussed, a new figure added

A new sdO+dM binary with extreme eclipses and reflection effect

We report the discovery of a new totally-eclipsing binary (RA=06:40:29.11; Dec=+38:56:52.2; J=2000.0; Rmax=17.2 mag) with an sdO primary and a strongly irradiated red dwarf companion. It has an orbital period of Porb=0.187284394(11) d and an optical eclipse depth in excess of 5 magnitudes. We obtained two low-resolution classification spectra with GTC/OSIRIS and ten medium-resolution spectra with WHT/ISIS to constrain the properties of the binary members. The spectra are dominated by H Balmer and He II absorption lines from the sdO star, and phase-dependent emission lines from the irradiated companion. A combined spectroscopic and light curve analysis implies a hot subdwarf temperature of Teff(spec) = 55 000 +/- 3000K, surface gravity of log g(phot) = 6.2 +/- 0.04 (cgs) and a He abundance of log(nHe/nH) = -2.24 +/- 0.40. The hot sdO star irradiates the red-dwarf companion, heating its substellar point to about 22 500K. Surface parameters for the companion are difficult to constrain from the currently available data: the most remarkable features are the strong H Balmer and C II-III lines in emission. Radial velocity estimates are consistent with the sdO+dM classification. The photometric data do not show any indication of sdO pulsations with amplitudes greater than 7mmag, and Halpha-filter images do not provide evidence of the presence of a planetary nebula associated with the sdO star.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures; accepted for publication in Ap

Systematical Approach to the Exact Solution of the Dirac Equation for A Special Form of the Woods-Saxon Potential

    Get PDF
Exact solution of the Dirac equation for a special form of the Woods-Saxon potential is obtained for the s-states. The energy eigenvalues and two-component spinor wave functions are derived by using a systematical method which is called as Nikiforov-Uvarov. It is seen that the energy eigenvalues strongly depend on the potential parameters. In addition, it is also shown that the non-relativistic limit can be reached easily and directly.Comment: 10 pages, no figures, submitted for Publicatio
