Simulating Income Distribution Changes in Bolivia: a Microeconometric Approach

    Get PDF
This paper uses microeconometric simulations to characterize the distributional changes occurred in the Bolivian economy in the period 1993-2002, and to assess the potential distributional impact of various alternative economic scenarios for the next decade. Wage equations for urban and rural areas estimated by both OLS and quantile regression are the main inputs for the microsimulations. A sizeable increase in the dispersion in worker unobserved wage determinants is the main factor behind the significant increase in household income inequality in the 90s. The results of the microsimulations suggest a small poverty-reducing effect of several potential scenarios, including education upgrading, sectoral transformations, labor informality reduction, gender and race wage gap closing, and changes in the structure of the returns to education. Sustainable and vigorous productivity growth seems to be a necessary condition for Bolivia to meet the poverty Millennium Development Goal by 2015.distribution, Bolivia, wages, decompositions, quantile, education, MDG

Innermost Stable Circular Orbits and Epicyclic Frequencies Around a Magnetized Neutron Star

A full-relativistic approach is used to compute the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO), the Keplerian, frame-dragging, precession and oscillation frequencies of the radial and vertical motions of neutral test particles orbiting the equatorial plane of a magnetized neutron star. The space-time around the star is modelled by the six parametric solution derived by Pachon et al. It is shown that the inclusion of an intense magnetic field, such as the one of a neutron star, have non-negligible effects on the above physical quantities, and therefore, its inclusion is necessary in order to obtain a more accurate and realistic description of the physical processes occurring in the neighbourhood of this kind of objects such as the dynamics of accretion disk. The results discussed here also suggest that the consideration of strong magnetic fields may introduce non-negligible corrections in, e.g., the relativistic precession model and therefore on the predictions made on the mass of neutron stars.Comment: LaTeX file, 13 pages, 4 figure

Visual Analysis as a tool for urban intervention in comparative studies

[EN] In recent years, urban design development has been an important topic in Latin American cities such as Medellin, Mexico City and Córdoba, due to the transformation of their urban spaces and new methods used to evaluate the social, morphological and, in some cases, economic impacts that have been brought about by urban development projects. When inquiring about the development process and impact of urban studies, and the inhabitants’ relation to a transformed space, it is important to establish the context within which images, drawings and photographs are analyzed, using graphical approaches triangulated with other research methods to define comparative criteria this paper will show, another example were visual analysis tools where used to understand urban transformation regarding economic process.Builes, A.; Correa, L.; Gutierrez, D. Mathweb, plataforma web para la enseñanza de la matemática en básica secundaria. Resultados preliminares

    Get PDF
The students of basic secondary education require a platform that provides them with more interactive learning of mathematics. MathWeb Education arises because of the low performance of mathematics in the country's educational institutions and also because of the low results in the ICFES tests in the area of mathematics. There is a need to move from a traditional model of teaching mathematics to the use of TICS with a different learning methodology. Brunner's learning methodology is incorporated into the platform, student learning is guided, dynamic and tests their knowledge. The objective is to socialize preliminary results based on the market study carried out in the participation of the phase discovery of digital business in person of apps.co at the end of 2019, the approach of the students' problem in learning mathematics was validated, thus obtaining a value proposition for our project and development of a small prototype as a platform.Los estudiantes de básica secundaria requieren de una plataforma que les brinde aprendizaje de las matemáticas de forma más interactiva.
