The choice of tactics for treatment of the injured persons with vertebra-abdominal trauma due to traffic-transport accident

Objective. To estimate the results of application of treatment-diagnostic tactics in the injured persons, suffering vertebro-abdominal trauma as a consequence of the traffic accident. Маterials and methods. For achievement of the investigation aim 122 injured persons with vertebro-abdominal trauma due to traffic accident were analyzed. The injured persons were divided into two Groups: Group I - 53 patients, in whom the «early total care» was applied, and Group II (a control one) - 69 patients, to whom the treatment measures were conducted in accordance to the «damage control surgery» tactics. Results. In the investigation there was established, that in the injured persons, suffering vertebro-abdominal trauma two tactics are affordable: «early total care», which is indicated in moderate internal hemorrhage, injuries of large omentum and intestinal mesentery, and «damage control surgery», which is indicated in presence of severe internal hemorrhage, hepatic, splenic and the retroperitoneal organs damages. Conclusion. Application of the «damage control surgery» tactics in the injured persons, suffering vertebro-abdominal trauma has advantages, what is proved by the mortality reduction by 6.3% and the rate of the infection complications occurrence - by 3.5%

Devising an Integrated Procedure for Assessing Fragmentation Effects

The paper presents a comparative analysis of Russian and foreign investigations in fragmentation effects and methods for assessing parameters of fragments formed by explosions of the equipment used for storing hazardous substances. Based on the results of the analysis, a conclusion was made as to the necessity of developing an integrated procedure for assessing fragmentation effects. The procedure is to be implemented as an ordered systematized algorithm comprising the analyzed methods for calculating individual parameters of fragments. The procedure devised was tested during the accident at the Cosmo Oil petroleum refinery in Japan, on March 11, 2011. Practical relevance of the procedure proposed is justified by the calculation results agreeing with the accident events. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

Clinico–anatomical characteristic of the traffic trauma in the megapolis environment.Second report: anatomical verification of injuries

Objective.Verification of clinic–anatomical characteristics of trauma as a consequence of traffic accident in the megapolis environment. Materials and methods. Retrospective analysis of the data obtained was conducted in 1159 injured persons, who were traumatized as a consequence of a traffic accident in megapolis. Results.There was established, that as a result of traffic accident in the megapolis environment, the injured persons most frequently obtained trauma of the head – 68.31%, of thoracic cage – 57.07%, and of the extremities – 53.99%. The majority of the injured persons survived have had the trauma of the head (67.13%), of the thoracic cage (55.74%) and extremities (53.63%), while mostly rare – pelvic trauma (15.70%). Among the injured persons, who died, the head injuries was noted in 94.0%, thoracic trauma – in 86.0%, and abdominal injuries – in 76.0%. Conclusion.Trauma as a consequence of traffic accident in the megapolis environment constitutes a multicomponent injury (2.4 damages in every injured person). The result of the traumatic process course depends on the injury composition (in the injured persons survived, the combination coefficient was 2.3, while in the dead – 3.8) and on damage of a certain anatomic–functional local site.The head, thoracic and pelvic sites have constituted the most dangerous localizations

Status report of a systematic investigation on low-dose ionizing radiation effects in mammalian cells

In the last 15 years a growing interest in the biological effects induced by low doses of ionizing radiation has arisen in the scientific community, due to an increasing number of experimental evidences showing a plethora of non-linear effects occurring after low-dose irradiations. In particular, hyper-radiosensitivity and induced radioresistance (HRS/IRR) have been reported after exposure to low- and high-LET radiation, in human (normal and tumoural) and other mammalian cells in vitro. In this framework, Chinese hamster V79 cells, human primary fibroblasts (HFFF2) and murine embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) were irradiated with broadbeams of protons in the dose range 0.1–5.0Gy and at 1 Gy/min dose-rate. Cellular response has been evaluated in terms of cell survival, micronuclei induction, chromosomal aberrations and telomere length alterations. Analysis of social efficiency of the orthotics department in municipal hospital

In this article we analyzed social efficiency of orthotics department at the Central Municipal Hospital of Ulyanovsk. The study was conducted in the period of 2013-2014 years in patients with different diseases. All respondents of experimental (n = 150) and control (n2 = 150) groups who participated in the study expressed positively about the purpose and use of orthoses - "good" (nt = 63,7 %; n2 = 80,7 %) or "no answer" (nt = 36,3 %; n2 = 19,3 %). It shows a high level of social efficiency of provided type of care. Work of orthotics department will increase the number of orthotic devices used to improve the quality of life of patients
