    A comparative study of hydrophilic phosphine hexanuclear rhenium cluster complexes’ toxicity

    Octahedral rhenium cluster compound Na2H8[{Re6Se8}(P(C2H4CONH2)(C2H4COO)2)6] has recently emerged as a very promising X-ray contrast agent for biomedical applications. However, the synthesis of this compound is rather challenging due to difficulty to control the hydrolysis of initial P(C2H4CN)3 ligand during the reaction process. Therefore, in this report we compare the in vitro and in vivo toxicity of Na2H8[{Re6Se8}(P(C2H4CONH2)(C2H4COO)2)6] with those of related compounds featuring fully hydrolysed form of the phosphine ligand, namely Na2H14[{Re6Q8}(P(C2H4COO)3)6] (Q = S or Se). Our results demonstrate that cytotoxicity and acute in vivo toxicity of the complex Na2H8[{Re6Se8}(P(C2H4CONH2)(C2H4COO)2)6] solutions were considerably lower than those of compounds with fully hydrolysed ligand P(C2H4COOH)3. Such behavior can be explained by the higher osmolality of Na2H14[{Re6Q8}(P(C2H4COO)3)6] versus Na2H8[{Re6Se8}(P(C2H4CONH2)(C2H4COO)2)6]

    Management Accounting System as an Element of an Entity’s Common Information Space

    In the contemporary world of global competition, rapidly changing business environment, development of innovative products, solutions, technologies, the creation of a common information space of an economic entity which results from intellectualization of its activity has become a must. Management accounting system is an integral part of the information space of any modern organization. Management accounting information which is becoming increasingly complicated currently plays more and more important role in an enterprise’s economic activity and represents an important resource for making more educated effective management economic decisions. That is why it is relevant to study the issues of forming an organization’s information space, identify its components and relationship between them as well as define the role of management accounting subsystem in the information space of an organization. The authors suggest certain amendments to the competence model of a modern management accountant. They also offer a matrix for assessing the level of development of an organization’s information space and defining a strategy of its further improvement. This matrix combines two indicators: the level of information exchange within the organization and the level of its information culture

    A Comparative Study of Koizumi and Longa Methods of Intraluminal Filament Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion in Rats: Early Corticosterone and Inflammatory Response in the Hippocampus and Frontal Cortex

    Two classical surgical approaches for intraluminal filament middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO), the Longa et al. (LM) and Koizumi et al. methods (KM), are used as alternatives in preclinical studies to induce stroke in rodents. Comparisons of these MCAO models in mice showed critical differences between them along with similarities (Smith et al. 2015; Morris et al. 2016). In this study, a direct comparison of MCAO-KM and MCAO-LM in rats was performed. Three days after MCAO, infarct volume, mortality rate, neurological deficit, and weight loss were similar in these models. MCAO-LM rats showed an increase in ACTH levels, while MCAO-KM rats demonstrated elevated corticosterone and interleukin-1β in blood serum. Corticosterone accumulation was detected in the frontal cortex (FC) and the hippocampus of the MCAO-KM group. IL1β beta increased in the ipsilateral hippocampus in the MCAO-KM group and decreased in the contralateral FC of MCAO-LM rats. Differences revealed between MCAO-KM and MCAO-LM suggest that corticosterone and interleukin-1β release as well as hippocampal accumulation is more expressed in MCAO-KM rats, predisposing them to corticosterone-dependent distant neuroinflammatory hippocampal damage. The differences between two models, particularly, malfunction of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis, should be considered in the interpretation, comparison, and translation of pre-clinical experimental results

    ORTHOMYXO- AND PARAMYXOVIRUSES IN MARINE MAMMALS

    Abstract. Aim. Marine mammals play the role of "sentries", standing guard over the health and functioning of marine ecosystems. The analysis of data reported in literature was carried out to understand and to evaluate a circulation of representatives of the Orthomyxoviridae and Paramyxoviridae, dangerous pathogens capable to cause morbidity and mortality in marine warm-blooded animals. Discussion. In the population of marine animals, in the available literature, no more than twenty infectious diseases were described. At the same time, according to preliminary estimates, about 15% of marine mammals die from indicated diseases. Previous studies conducted by various groups of scientists have already shown the circulation of various viral pathogens, which cause different infections in these animals. The present fact indicates the important role of marine mammals in the ecology and spreading of a number of viruses. In accordance with a literature data, representatives of Orthomixoviruses and Paramyxoviruses are among the most dangerous pathogens, which may infect this type of animals. Thus, it was suggested that seals may be infected with a wide range of influenza viruses without prior adaptation. It was emphasized that pinnipeds are one of the reservoir of a human influenza B virus in nature. Infections caused by morbilliviruses, can be the reason of epizootics in a population of seals and among the other species of marine mammals. Signs of a disease are similar to the clinic of carnivore plague. Main conclusions. The data presented in literature is extremely not enough for fully understanding a role of marine mammals as hosts or carriers of potential zoonotic pathogens, such as avian influenza virus (AIV), morbilliviruses and others. Thus, this issue requires further more detailed study

    Development of Post-Stroke Cognitive and Depressive Disturbances: Associations with Neurohumoral Indices

    Neuropsychiatric complications, in particular cognitive and depressive disorders, are common consequences of ischemic stroke (IS) and complicate the rehabilitation, quality of life, and social adaptation of patients. The hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) system, sympathoadrenal medullary system (SAMS), and inflammatory processes are believed to be involved in the pathogenesis of these disorders. This study aimed to explore these systems in IS patients, including those with post-stroke cognitive and depressive disorders, within a year after IS. Indices of the HPA axis, inflammatory system, and SAMS were measured in blood serum (cortisol, interleukin-6 (IL-6)), plasma (adrenocorticotropic hormone), and saliva (cortisol, α-amylase). During one year after mild/moderate IS (NIHSS score 5.9 ± 4.3), serum cortisol and salivary α-amylase levels remained elevated in the total cohort. In the group with further cognitive decline, serum and salivary cortisol levels were elevated during the acute period of IS. In the group with poststroke depressive disorder, salivary α-amylase was constantly elevated, while serum IL-6 was minimal during the acute period. The results suggest prolonged hyperactivation of the HPA axis and SAMS after IS. Specifically, post-stroke cognitive impairment was associated with hyperactivation of the HPA axis during the acute IS period, while post-stroke depressive disorder was associated with the chronic inflammatory process and hyperactivation of SAMS during the follow-up period

    Serial Llama Immunization with Various SARS-CoV-2 RBD Variants Induces Broad Spectrum Virus-Neutralizing Nanobodies

    The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 mutant variants has posed a significant challenge to both the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 with anti-coronaviral neutralizing antibodies. The latest viral variants demonstrate pronounced resistance to the vast majority of human monoclonal antibodies raised against the ancestral Wuhan variant. Less is known about the susceptibility of the evolved virus to camelid nanobodies developed at the start of the pandemic. In this study, we compared nanobody repertoires raised in the same llama after immunization with Wuhan’s RBD variant and after subsequent serial immunization with a variety of RBD variants, including that of SARS-CoV-1. We show that initial immunization induced highly potent nanobodies, which efficiently protected Syrian hamsters from infection with the ancestral Wuhan virus. These nanobodies, however, mostly lacked the activity against SARS-CoV-2 omicron-pseudotyped viruses. In contrast, serial immunization with different RBD variants resulted in the generation of nanobodies demonstrating a higher degree of somatic mutagenesis and a broad range of neutralization. Four nanobodies recognizing distinct epitopes were shown to potently neutralize a spectrum of omicron variants, including those of the XBB sublineage. Our data show that nanobodies broadly neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 variants may be readily induced by a serial variant RBD immunization
