    An Analysis on the Relationship among Trust in Manager, Political Behavior and Organizational Commitment: The Case of a Sports Organization

    The article aims to provide an insight into the relationship among political behavior, trust in manager and organizational commitment in sports organizations. The research is designed with a descriptive and relational survey model which is one of the qualitative research methods. The research group consists of 109 employees (48 females, 61 males) working in Erzincan Youth Services and Provincial Directorate of Sports, selected with convenience sampling method, one of the non-random sampling methods. As data collection tools, Personal Information Form, Organizational Commitment Scale, Trust in Manager Scale and Political Behavior Scale were used. SPSS 22 package program was used to analyze the data. Arithmetic mean, frequency and standard deviation were used in the statistical representations of the data. For the normality of the data, skewness and kurtosis values were taken into consideration and the data were found to have a normal distribution. Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of the study show that there is a negative relationship between the sub-dimensions of the political behavior scale and the sub-dimensions of the trust in manager scale. Similarly, as the values of the sub-dimensions of the political behavior scale increase, the organizational commitments of the participants decrease. According to the results of multiple regression analysis, the sub-dimension of cognition-based trust, one of the sub-dimensions of trust in manager scale, is an important predictor of affective commitment, which is one of the sub-dimensions of organizational commitment scale. One of the statistically significant results of multiple regression analysis is that acting two-faced sub-dimension of the political behavior scale is a significant predictor of continuance commitment, which is one of the sub-dimensions of organizational commitment scale

    In the present study we evaluated the effects of iodine intake on the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction, autoimmunity, and goiter in two regions with different iodine status after two years of iodization in Turkey. In total 1733 adolescent subjects were enrolled into the study (993 from an iodine-sufficient area-the Eastern Black Sea Region (group 1) and 740 from an iodine-deficient area-Middle Anatolia (group 2). We measured free thyroxine (FT4), thyrotropin (TSH), antithyroid peroxidase antibodies (Anti-TPO), antithyroglobulin antibodies (Anti-Tg), and urinary iodine (UI), and examined the thyroid gland by ultrasound. Median urinary iodine excretion was found to be significantly different in group 1 and group 2 (139 mu g/l vs 61 mu g/l, p 0.05). The percentage of anti-Tg positive subjects was found to be 17.6% in group 1 and 6.4% in group 2; that of anti-TPO positive subjects was 4.3% in group 1 and 1.5% in group 2. The prevalence of antithyroid antibody (anti-Tg and/or anti-TPO) positivity was significantly higher in group 1 than in group 2 (18.52% vs 6.62%; p < 0.001). Thyroid volumes of the hyperthyroid subjects in both groups were significantly higher than hypo- and euthyroid subjects. In conclusion, iodine supplementation in Turkey has resulted in the elimination of iodine deficiency in the Eastern Black Sea Region, and this has been accompanied by an increase in the prevalence of autoimmune thyroiditis and thyroid dysfunction

    The association between acromegaly and increased incidence of malignancy has been reported due to high GH and IGF levels. Although the incidence of all malignancies increases in patients with acromegaly, renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has been rarely reported. Herein, we report an acromegaly case with lung, gluteal and scapular metastatic RCC. The risk of cancer and cancer metastasis is high in uncontrolled acromegaly.     Higher schizotypy predicts better metabolic profile in unaffected siblings of patients with schizophrenia

    Rationale: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is more frequent in schizophrenia (Sz) than in the general population. This association is partly accounted for by shared susceptibility genetic variants. Objective: We tested the hypotheses that a genetic predisposition to Sz would be associated with higher likelihood of insulin resistance (IR), and that IR would be predicted by subthreshold psychosis phenotypes. Methods: Unaffected siblings of Sz patients (n = 101) were compared with a nonclinical sample (n = 305) in terms of IR, schizotypy (SzTy), and a behavioural experiment of “jumping to conclusions”. The measures, respectively, were the Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), Structured Interview for Schizotypy-Revised (SIS-R), and the Beads Task (BT). The likelihood of IR was examined in multiple regression models that included sociodemographic, metabolic, and cognitive parameters alongside group status, SIS-R scores, and BT performance. Results: Insulin resistance was less frequent in siblings (31.7%) compared to controls (43.3%) (p < 0.05), and negatively associated with SzTy, as compared among the tertile groups for the latter (p < 0.001). The regression model that examined all relevant parameters included the tSzTy tertiles, TG and HDL-C levels, and BMI, as significant predictors of IR. Lack of IR was predicted by the highest as compared to the lowest SzTy tertile [OR (95%CI): 0.43 (0.21–0.85), p = 0.015]. Conclusion: Higher dopaminergic activity may contribute to both schizotypal features and a favourable metabolic profile in the same individual. This is compatible with dopamine’s regulatory role in glucose metabolism via indirect central actions and a direct action on pancreatic insulin secretion. The relationship between dopaminergic activity and metabolic profile in Sz must be examined in longitudinal studies with younger unaffected siblings

    Optimizing waste collection in an organized industrial region: a case study

    In this paper we present a case study which involves the design of a supply chain network for industrial waste collection. The problem is to transport metal waste from 17 factories to containers and from containers to a disposal center (DC) at an organized region of automobile parts suppliers. We applied the classic mixed-integer programming (MIP) model for the two-stage supply chain to the solution of this problem. The visualization of the optimal solution provided us with several interesting insights that would not be easily derived otherwise
