In this component, I tried to use the metamorphosis differently than the usual way – as a visual effect or as a link between the scenes. I used it both as the most important constituent process of Animation, and as a plastic resource, and also, as the main driver of the story. For a better understanding of the concept, its applications in the fields of Visual Arts, Literature and Cinema were considered. In this paper, I have investigated animated works where the use of metamorphosis plays an important role, such as Blinkity Blank (MCLAREN, 1955), Street Musique (LARKIN, 1972), Introduction (GAZIZOV, 1992), Britannia (QUINN 1993) and Gloria Victoria (USHEV, 2012). In order to deepen the research, I have developed and proposed a set of classifications of metamorphoses: a table where they are listed according to the types of transformation (substitution, manipulation and deformation) in relation to the animation techniques in which they are produced; and other listings according to the identification of their narrative characteristics (scene transition, temporal ellipse, spatial ellipse, character change and daydream) or symbolic characteristics (transfiguration, visual metaphor and graphic distortion). In view of all the previous stages, it was possible to develop a differentiated approach, where metamorphosis and its transformations represent processes and narrate history. For the narrative development of the practical component the History of Brazil was chosen as the theme, in combination with the philosophical concepts of utopia and dystopia. This theoretical component is based in particular on the studies on Animation, by Paul Wells (1966-) and Georges Sifianos (1952-) and texts on the plasmaticity, by Sergei Eisenstein (1898-1948

Tropical-forest density profiles from multibaseline interferometric SAR

    No full text
Vertical profiles of forest density potentially are robust indicators of forest biomass, fire susceptibility and ecosystem function. Tropical forests, which are among the most dense and complicated targets for remote sensing, contain about 45% of the world's biomass. Remote sensing of tropical forest structure is therefore an important component to global biomass and carbon monitoring. As in radio astronomy, which uses multibaseline radio interferometry to measure the structure of celestial objects, so multibaseline interferometric SAR (InSAR) can be used to estimate the vertical structure of forests. Vegetation density profiles, along with radar backscattering characteristics and attenuation, determine the radar brightness profile "seen" by InSAR. This paper will describe an experiment at La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica (∼ 3m rainfall/year) in which we flew 18 effective fixed baselines over tropical forests at C-band (0.056 m wavelength) and L-band (0.25 m). Preliminary inversions for radar brightness profiles will be compared to extensive lidar profiles measured in the same area. They will also be compared to field-measured profiles

Canine papillomavirus type 16 associated to squamous cell carcinoma in a dog : virological and pathological findings

    No full text
Papillomaviruses (PVs) are circular double-stranded DNA virus belonging to Papillomaviridae family. During the infection cycle, PVs translate proteins that can influence cell growth and differentiation, leading to epidermal hyperplasia and papillomas (warts) or malignant neoplasms. Canis familiaris papillomaviruses (CPVs) have been associated with different lesions, such as oral and cutaneous papillomatosis, pigmented plaques, and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Here, we report a clinical case of a mixed bred female dog with pigmented plaques induced by CPV16 (Chipapillomavirus 2) that progressed to in situ and invasive SCCs. Gross and histological findings were characterized, and the lesions were mainly observed in ventral abdominal region and medial face of the limbs. In situ hybridization (ISH) revealed strong nuclear hybridization signals in the neoplastic epithelial cells, as well as in the keratinocytes and koilocytes of the pigmented viral plaques. The full genome of the CPV16 recovered directly from the lesions was characterized, and the phylogenetic relationships were determined. The identification of oncoprotein genes (E5, E6, and E7) by high throughput sequencing (HTS) and their expected domains are suggestive of the malignant transformation by CPV16
