Use of whole rock geochemistry for ignimbritic unit recognition: an example from the Sulcis area (SW Sardinia, Italy)

In the Sulcis area (SW Sardinia, Italy) a thick OligoMiocene volcanic sequence formed during the drifting and rotation of Sardinia from the European continental margin to its current position. These volcanics originated by the combined effect of oceanic crust subduction under the Corsica-Sardinia microplate and increased extensional tectonics after 18 M

Subduction-related fluids influence on the Oligo-Miocene transitional magmatism of the Sulcis area (SW Sardinia, Italy)

The Sardinia-Corsica microplate was involved in OligoMiocene times in a SE-ward drift and counterclockwise rotation from the European margin in western Mediterranean to its current position. This movement was caused by the roll-back play of a NWward subducting oceanic plate under this margin and produced the detachment of this microplate from the continental margin and the openning of the Liguro-Provençal basin. As a result of the subduction abundant calc-alkaline magmatism of orogenic affinity occurred, mostly in the western sectors of Sardinia. In the final stages of the Miocene subduction and magmatism, coinciding with an increase in extensional tectonics, in the Sulcis area magmatism shifted from typical orogenic andesites to more evolved products of transitional character, ranging from trachydacites to rhyolites, with the relevant presence of peralkaline magmas (comendites), which were emplaced mostly as widespread ignimbrites reaching up to 20 km3 in volume and forming a pile over 200 m thick

Vectors to ore in replacive VMS deposits of the northern Iberian Pyrite Belt: the case study of Aguas Teñidas deposit

Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) deposits represent a major source of base, precious and other metals of economic and industrial importance. The Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB) is an outstanding VMS district located in the SW Iberian Peninsula. It is arguably the largest known accumulation of sulphides on the Earth's crust, and represents the main mining area in Spain and one of the main zones of base metal production in Europe. As in other mining areas, progressive exhaustion of the most shallow and easily accessible deposits is leading to increasingly complex exploration. In this context, the combined study of the mineral systems and the development of new exploration strategies and technologies based on geophysical methods and vectors to ore play a vital role

Vectors to ore in replacive volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits of the northern Iberian Pyrite Belt: Mineral zoning, whole rock geochemistry, and application of portable X-ray fluorescence

In this work we have performed a detailed study of vectors to ore to a representative volcanic-rock-hosted replacive volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposit located in the northern Iberian Pyrite Belt (Spain), the Aguas Teñidas deposit. The investigated vectors include the following: (1) mineralogical zoning, (2) host sequence characterization and mineralized unit identification based on whole rock geochemistry discrimination diagrams, (3) study of the characteristics and behaviour of whole rock geochemical anomalies around the ore (e.g. alteration-related compositional changes, characteristics and extent of geochemical halos of indicative elements such as Cu, Zn, Pb, Sb, Tl, and Ba around the deposit), and (4) application of portable X-ray fluorescence (p-XRF) analysis to the detection of the previous vectors

Analysis of the Impact of Different Variables on the Energy Demand in Office Buildings

[EN] The design of near zero energy offices is a priority, which involves looking to achieve designs which minimise energy consumption and balance energy requirements with an increase in the installation and consumption of renewable energy. In light of this, some authors have used computer software to achieve simulations of the energy behaviour of buildings. Other studies based on regulatory systems which classify and label energy use also generally make their assessments through the use of software. In Spain, there is an authorised procedure for certifying the energy performance of buildings, and software (LIDER-CALENER unified tool) which is used to demonstrate compliance of the performance of buildings both from the point of view of energy demand and energy consumption. The aim of this study is to analyse the energy behaviour of an office building and the variability of the same using the software in terms of the following variables: climate zone, building orientation and certain surrounding wall types and encasements typical of this type of construction.Fuentes Bargues, JL.; Vivancos, J.; Ferrer-Gisbert, P.; Gimeno-Guillem, MÁ.
