    The multicomponent 2D Toda hierarchy: Discrete flows and string equations

    The multicomponent 2D Toda hierarchy is analyzed through a factorization problem associated to an infinite-dimensional group. A new set of discrete flows is considered and the corresponding Lax and Zakharov--Shabat equations are characterized. Reductions of block Toeplitz and Hankel bi-infinite matrix types are proposed and studied. Orlov--Schulman operators, string equations and additional symmetries (discrete and continuous) are considered. The continuous-discrete Lax equations are shown to be equivalent to a factorization problem as well as to a set of string equations. A congruence method to derive site independent equations is presented and used to derive equations in the discrete multicomponent KP sector (and also for its modification) of the theory as well as dispersive Whitham equations.Comment: 27 pages.     Use of camera trapping in determining Iberian lynx population parameters: The use area and its limitations

    Below are the results of the survey of the Iberian lynx obtained with camera-trapping between 2000 and 2007 in Sierra Morena. Two very important aspects of camera-trapping concerning its efficiency are also analyzed. The first is the evolution along years according to the camera-trapping type used of two efficiency indicators. The results obtained demonstrate that the most efficient lure is rabbit, though it is the less proven (92 trap-nights), followed by camera-trapping in the most frequent marking places (latrines). And, we propose as a novel the concept of use area as a spatial reference unit for the camera-trapping monitoring of non radio-marked animals is proposed, and its validity discussed

    Four edible oils, linseed, borage and sunflower seed oils, and the liver oil of shortfin mako (Isurus oxyrinchus), have been fractionated by open column liquid chromatography, using partially argentated silica gel as stationary phase, looking for purify polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). By this method, linoleic (LA, 18:2n6),α-linolenic (ALA, 18:3n3), γ-linolenic (GLA, 18:3n6), stearidonic (SDA, 18:4n3), eicosapentaenoic (EPA, 20:5n3) and docosahexaenoic (DHA, 22:6n3) fatty acid esters have been isolated from these oils with high purity percentages and yields.Los aceites comestibles de lino, girasol, borraja y el de hígado de marrajo (Isurus oxyrinchus), se fraccionaron mediante cromatografía líquida en columna abierta, usando como fase estacionaria gel de sílice parcialmente impregnado con nitrato de plata, con el objetivo de purificar varios ácidos grasos poliinsaturados (PUFA).     S-functions, reductions and hodograph solutions of the r-th dispersionless modified KP and Dym hierarchies

    We introduce an S-function formulation for the recently found r-th dispersionless modified KP and r-th dispersionless Dym hierarchies, giving also a connection of these SS-functions with the Orlov functions of the hierarchies. Then, we discuss a reduction scheme for the hierarchies that together with the SS-function formulation leads to hodograph systems for the associated solutions. We consider also the connection of these reductions with those of the dispersionless KP hierarchy and with hydrodynamic type systems.     Functional screening of GATOR1 complex variants reveals a role for mTORC1 deregulation in FCD and focal epilepsy

    Mutations in the GAP activity toward RAGs 1 (GATOR1) complex genes (DEPDC5, NPRL2 and NPRL3) have been associated with focal epilepsy and focal cortical dysplasia (FCD). GATOR1 functions as an inhibitor of the mTORC1 signalling pathway, indicating that the downstream effects of mTORC1 deregulation underpin the disease. However, the vast majority of putative disease-causing variants have not been functionally assessed for mTORC1 repression activity. Here, we develop a novel in vitro functional assay that enables rapid assessment of GATOR1-gene variants. Surprisingly, of the 17 variants tested, we show that only six showed significantly impaired mTORC1 inhibition. To further investigate variant function in vivo, we generated a conditional Depdc5 mouse which modelled a 'second-hit' mechanism of disease. Generation of Depdc5 null 'clones' in the embryonic brain resulted in mTORC1 hyperactivity and modelled epilepsy and FCD symptoms including large dysmorphic neurons, defective migration and lower seizure thresholds. Using this model, we validated DEPDC5 variant F164del to be loss-of-function. We also show that Q542P is not functionally compromised in vivo, consistent with our in vitro findings. Overall, our data show that mTORC1 deregulation is the central pathological mechanism for GATOR1 variants and also indicates that a significant proportion of putative disease variants are pathologically inert, highlighting the importance of GATOR1 variant functional assessment.Ruby E.     Treatment with implants in patients with diabetes. A 7-year comparative study

    Introducción. La implantología oral puede constituir una modalidad terapéutica en el tratamiento prostodóncico de los pacientes con compromiso médico. El estudio muestra la evaluación del tratamiento con implantes en pacientes con diabetes comparados con pacientes sin diabetes. Métodos. 48 pacientes edéntulos totales (24 pacientes diabéticos y 24 no diabéticos) fueron tratados con 96 implan- tes con superficie arenada y grabada Galimplant ® en la mandíbula para su rehabilitación prostodóncica con sobre- dentaduras mandibulares. 2 implantes fueron insertados en cada paciente. Los implantes fueron cargados funcional- mente tras un periodo de tiempo de 6 semanas con retenedores de fricción. Los hallazgos clínicos (implantológicos y prostodóncicos) se han seguido durante 7 años. Resultados. Los resultados indican una supervivencia de los implantes del 95,8%. Durante el periodo de seguimeinto clínico se perdieron 4 implantes (dos implantes en cada grupo). La pérdida de hueso marginal media fué de 0,7 mm en ambos grupos. El 100% de los pacientes fueron tratados mediante una sobredentadura implantorretenida con anclajes de fricción. En 14 pacientes se realizaron cambios en los componentes plásticos de los ataches. El seguimiento clínico medio fue de 82,5 meses (60-102 meses). Conclusiones. Los resultados del presente estudio indican que el tratamiento con implantes dentales en pacientes diabéticos es una terapéutica exitosa sin diferencias entre los pacientes diabéticos y no diabéticos. Implant dentistry can to constitute a therapeutic modality in the prosthodontic treatment of medically compromised patients. This study reports the evaluation of treatment with implants in patients with diabetes compared with patients without diabetes. Methods. 48 edentulous patients (24 diabetic patients and 24 non-diabetic patients) were treated with 96 Galimplant ® sand-blasted and acid-etched surface implants for prosthodontic rehabilitation with mandibular overdentures. Two implants were inserted in each patient. Implants were loaded after a healing free-loading period between 6 weeks with locator attaches. Clinical findings (implant and prosthodontics) were followed during at 7 years. Results. Clinical results indicate a survival rate of implants of 95.8% in both groups. Four implant was lost during the follow-up period (two implants in each group). Media marginal bone loss was 0.7 mm in both groups. 100% of patients were treated with overdentures retained with 2 implants with locator attaches. Changes in plastic components of attaches were reported in 14 patients. The media follow-up was of 82.5 months (60-102 months). Conclusions. Clinical results of this study indicate that treatment with dental implants in diabetic patients is a successful implant treatment without differences with nondiabetic patients

    The multicomponent 2D Toda hierarchy: dispersionless limit

    The factorization problem of the multi-component 2D Toda hierarchy is used to analyze the dispersionless limit of this hierarchy. A dispersive version of the Whitham hierarchy defined in terms of scalar Lax and Orlov--Schulman operators is introduced and the corresponding additional symmetries and string equations are discussed. Then, it is shown how KP and Toda pictures of the dispersionless Whitham hierarchy emerge in the dispersionless limit. Moreover, the additional symmetries and string equations for the dispersive Whitham hierarchy are studied in this limit.Comment: Revised version with an overall improved presentatio
