5D Extremal Rotating Black Holes and CFT duals

Kerr/CFT correspondence has been recently applied to various types of 5D extremal rotating black holes. A common feature of all such examples is the existence of two chiral CFT duals corresponding to the U(1) symmetries of the near horizon geometry. In this paper, by studying the moduli space of the near horizon metric of five dimensional extremal black holes which are asymptotically flat or AdS, we realize an SL(2,Z) modular group which is a symmetry of the near horizon geometry. We show that there is a lattice of chiral CFT duals corresponding to the moduli points identified under the action of the modular group. The microscopic entropy corresponding to all such CFTs are equivalent and are in agreement with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy.Comment: 10 pages, the consistency of the boundary condition is explicitly shown in a new sectio

The Spectrum of Strings on Warped AdS_3 x S^3

String theory on NS-NS AdS_3 x S^3 admits an exactly marginal deformation which breaks the SL(2,R)_R x SL(2,R)_L isometry of AdS_3 down to SL(2,R)_R x U(1)_L. The holographic dual is an exotic and only partially understood type of two-dimensional CFT with a reduced unbroken global conformal symmetry group. In this paper we study the deformed theory on the string worldsheet. It is found to be related by a spectral flow which is nonlocal in spacetime to the undeformed worldsheet theory. An exact formula for the spectrum of massive strings is presented.Comment: 26 pages, no figure

Uniqueness of near-horizon geometries of rotating extremal AdS(4) black holes

We consider stationary extremal black hole solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations with a negative cosmological constant in four dimensions. We determine all non-static axisymmetric near-horizon geometries (with non-toroidal horizon topology) and all static near-horizon geometries for black holes of this kind. This allows us to deduce that the most general near-horizon geometry of an asymptotically globally AdS(4) rotating extremal black hole, is the near-horizon limit of extremal Kerr-Newman-AdS(4). We also identify the subset of near-horizon geometries which are supersymmetric. Finally, we show which physical quantities of extremal black holes may be computed from the near-horizon limit alone, and point out a simple formula for the entropy of the known supersymmetric AdS(4) black hole. Analogous results are presented in the case of vanishing cosmological constant.Comment: 18 pages, Latex. v2: footnote added on pg. 12. v3: assumption of non-toroidal horizon topology made explicit, minor clarification

    Holographic Entanglement Entropy: An Overview

In this article, we review recent progresses on the holographic understandings of the entanglement entropy in the AdS/CFT correspondence. After reviewing the general idea of holographic entanglement entropy, we will explain its applications to confinement/deconfinement phase transitions, black hole entropy and covariant formulation of holography.Comment: 52 pages, Invited review article for a special issue "Entanglement entropy in extended quantum systems" in Journal of Physics A, edited by P.Calabrese, J. Un-twisting the NHEK with spectral flows

International audienceWe show that the six-dimensional uplift of the five-dimensional Near-Horizon-Extremal-Kerr (NHEK) spacetime can be obtained from an AdS 3 × S 3 solution by a sequence of supergravity -- but not string theory -- dualities. We present three ways of viewing these pseudo-dualities: as a series of transformations in the STU model, as a combination of Melvin twists and T-dualities and, finally, as a sequence of two generalized spectral flows and a coordinate transformation. We then use these to find an infinite family of asymptotically flat embeddings of NHEK spacetimes in string theory, parameterized by the arbitrary values of the moduli at infinity. Our construction reveals the existence of non-perturbative deformations of asymptotically-NHEK spacetimes, which correspond to the bubbling of nontrivial cycles wrapped by flux, and paves the way for finding a microscopic field theory dual to NHEK which involves Melvin twists of the D1-D5 gauge theory. Our analysis also clarifies the meaning of the generalized spectral flow solution-generating techniques that have been recently employed in the literature

Two Virasoro symmetries in stringy warped AdS3_3

41 pages, 1 figureInternational audienceWe study three-dimensional consistent truncations of type IIB supergravity which admit warped AdS3_3 solutions. These theories contain subsectors that have no bulk dynamics. We show that the symplectic form for these theories, when restricted to the non-dynamical subsectors, equals the symplectic form for pure Einstein gravity in AdS3_3. Consequently, for each consistent choice of boundary conditions in AdS3_3, we can define a consistent phase space in warped AdS3_3 with identical conserved charges. This way, we easily obtain a Virasoro X Virasoro asymptotic symmetry algebra in warped AdS3_3; two different types of Virasoro X Kac-Moody symmetries are also consistent alternatives. Next, we study the phase space of these theories when propagating modes are included. We show that, as long as one can define a conserved symplectic form without introducing instabilities, the Virasoro X Virasoro asymptotic symmetries can be extended to the entire (linearized) phase space. This implies that, at least at semi-classical level, consistent theories of gravity in warped AdS3_3 are described by a two-dimensional conformal field theory, as long as stability is not an issue
