Inconvenient Truths, and Changes to Believe In: Foreword to the Forum

This is a foreword to four papers that originated in the special session, “Ethnic Diversity in Music Theory: Voices from the Field,” at the November 2007 meeting of the Society for Music Theory (Baltimore). Inspired by the impassioned discussion period following the talks, the Committee on Diversity arranged to publish these papers to capture the session’s energy and channel it into a more permanent medium. This foreword, written by the moderator, highlights several issues that surfaced in the papers and in the ensuing discussion. The issues coalesce into a call for new action: diversity efforts have not worked in the forms known, but with reengineering they are vital for securing a future in the SMT for all

ASPECTOS RELEVANTES DE LA HISTORIA Y TRASCENDENCIA ACADÉMICA DEL CENTRO UNIVERSITARIO UAEM VALLE DE TEOTIHUACÁN

La trascendencia de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM), es advertida a través de la descentralización de la educación superior en Extensiones Académicas, Unidades Académicas Profesionales y Centros Universitarios, el cual fue determinado a través del Plan General de Desarrollo Institucional 1983 – 1985, en el que se consideró extender el servicio universitario a diversas zonas de la entidad y en 1995, mediante el Plan Maestro de Desconcentración, se crean las Unidades Académicas Profesionales, con el objetivo acercar la educación superior a poblados lejanos de la capital, pero con gran necesidad de fomentar y desarrollar el crecimiento político, social y cultural de la población mexiquense, corresponde a la Unidad Académica Profesional del Valle de Teotihuacán iniciar actividades administrativas el 30 de junio del 2000 y las académicas el 4 de septiembre del mismo año, bajo la Coordinación del M. en C. Eduardo Gasca Pliego y siendo rector de la UAEM el M. en A. Uriel Galicia Hernández, impartiendo las licenciaturas de Derecho, Contaduría, Ingeniero Agrónomo e Informática Administrativa, en las instalaciones de la delegación de la localidad de Santo Domingo Aztacameca, municipio de Axapusco; asentado en el Valle de Teotihuacán, en la región nororiente del estado de México y comprende los municipios de: San Juan Teotihuacán, San Martín de las Pirámides, Nopaltepec, Temascalapa, Acolman Otumba y Axapusco

LA IDENTIDAD DEL CENTRO UNIVERSITARIO UAEM VALLE DE TEOTIHUACÁN FORTALECE LA TRANSFORMACIÓN HUMANISTA EN LA COMUNIDAD UNIVERSITARIA

En el devenir histórico de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, ha pasado por grandes y exitosos cambios; pero el que nos ocupa en este momento es el suceso determinado por la administración del Dr. Jorge Olvera García 2013-2017 en el fomento del “Humanismo que transforma”, entre los proyectos planteados consideró los cambios de la dirección de los espacios educativos, lo que origina en el Centro Universitario el cambio de dirección; siendo así el registro de candidatos el 2 de septiembre de 2014, en el proceso el M. en D. Andrés Jaime González, fue el único candidato participante, la elección se llevó a cabo el 11 de septiembre y el cambio de dirección se realizó el 26 de septiembre del mismo año

ACCIONES QUE FORTALECEN LAS FUNCIONES SUSTANTIVAS DEL CENTRO UNIVERSITARIO UAEM VALLE DE TEOTIHUACÁN ADMINISTRACIÓN 2014-2018

La Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM), cuyo quehacer es la trascendencia de difundir y hacer llegar el conocimiento a todos los rincones del Estado de México, para satisfacer la ineludible necesidad del contexto social de los alrededores del Centro Universitario UAEM Valle de Teotihuacán, a través de la difusión de los principios fundamentales de nuestra universidad que son: la docencia, la investigación y la extensión y vinculación universitaria, con el objeto de que las comunidades aledañas que integran el Valle, como son los municipios de San Juan Teotihuacán, San Martín de las Pirámides, Nopaltepec, Temascalapa, Acolman Otumba y sobre todo Axapusco; se impulse su desarrollo económico, social y cultural mediante el impacto de sus egresados. El desarrollo y crecimiento del Centro Universitario UAEM Valle de Teotihuacán ha pasado por diversas experiencias, por lo que mencionar los aspectos que van dejando huella es trascendente para la memoria del recinto universitario

Lifestyle intervention as a treatment for obesity in school-age-children in Celaya, Guanajuato: An experimental study

Introduction: Obesity is a risk factor in chronic diseases, and its frequency among children in Mexico is increasing. Objective: To determine the effect of lifestyle intervention as a treatment for obesity in school-age-children from Celaya, Mexico.Methodology: For this experimental study, four schools were randomly selected. Children and parents participated voluntarily and signed consent forms. Two schools were chosen as the experimental group and the other two formed the control group. Age, gender, weight, height, BMI and blood pressure were recorded for each participant. Intervention: Children and parents were asked to walk in their schools for 30 minutes a day Monday through Friday and to attend 8 instructional sessions over a period of four months dedicated to the selection and preparation of meals. Statistical Analysis: The OR and 95% CI were calculated to determine the effect of the intervention; a Z-test for two proportions for overweight and obesity in the control and experimental groups were carried out for comparison.Results: 157 children were included in the experimental group and 144 in the control group. To compare the proportions of the overweight and the obese between the groups, a Z-test = - 0.36 (p-value 0.72) were obtained showing no effect of the intervention in lifestyle; OR =1.09, 95% CI (0.67, 1.77). It was adjusted according to the attendance to the sessions resulting in an OR = 2.00, 95% CI (0.69, 5.77), demonstrating that not attending the sessions was a confounder.Conclusions: Intervention in lifestyle should be measured over a longer period of time in order to determine what effects it may have on changes in body mass index

Energy trading and pricing in microgrids with uncertain energy supply:A three-stage hierarchical game approach

This paper studies an energy trading and pricing problem for microgrids with uncertain energy supply. The energy provider with the renewable energy (RE) generation (wind power) determines the energy purchase from the electricity markets and the pricing strategy for consumers to maximize its profit, and then the consumers determine their energy demands to maximize their payoffs. The hierarchical game is established between the energy provider and the consumers. The energy provider is the leader and the consumers are the followers in the hierarchical game. We consider two types of consumers according to their response to the price, i.e., the price-taking consumers and the price-anticipating consumers. We derive the equilibrium point of the hierarchical game through the backward induction method. Comparing the two types of consumers, we study the influence of the types of consumers on the equilibrium point. In particular, the uncertainty of the energy supply from the energy provider is considered. Simulation results show that the energy provider can obtain more profit using the proposed decision-making scheme
