Students' Information Literacy Development as a Guarantee of Qualitative Studies

Publication devoted to information literacy development updates. Information literacy competencies as the basis for the success of a human life takes on a special significance in higher education teaching. Success of this process is driven by university cooperation partners: teachers, librarians and administrations work. Teachers implement information literacy development methods courses, librarians responsible for information resources in institution make up their own training system, but the administration - facilitates the implementation of information literacy and financial support. Open Access movement in Latvia

This article gives information about the situation of Open Access development in Latvia between 2009 and 2013. The Library of the University of Latvia has made a serious effort to inform the scientific community through different activities and preparation of information materials. The University of Latvia Library created the institutional e-resource repository of the University of Latvia that can be served as a pilot project for further development of the repositories in Latvia

Open Access initiative in the University of Latvia and Republic of Latvia

Rakstā aplūkota Open Access kustība kā iespēja publicēties bez finansiāliem, tiesiskiem vai tehniskiem ierobežojumiem. Autori raksturo Open Access kustības attīstību Latvijā no 2009. līdz 2013. gadam. Šajā laika posmā Latvijas Universitātes Bibliotēka devusi lielu ieguldījumu zinātnieku informēšanā par Open Access iniciatīvām, organizējot lekcijas, diskusijas, sniedzot konsultācijas un sagatavojot informatīvos materiālus. Pēc LU Bibliotēkas iniciatīvas tika izveidots institucionālais LU e-resursu repozitārijs kas ir kā pilotprojekts turpmākajai repozitāriju izveidei un attīstībai Latvijā. Latvijā arī turpmāk nepieciešams attīstīt zinātnisko publikāciju un pētniecības datu saglabāšanu un pieejamību brīvpieejā

E-learning for lifelong learning in Latvia

This White Paper on e-Learning for Lifelong Learning in Latvia is one among a number of white papers dealing with e-Learning and lifelong learning in specific countries in Asia and Europe. The production of these white papers is an Asian-European initiative, with offspring in the e-ASEM network ― the research network on the Development of ICT skills, e-Learning and the culture of e-Learning in Lifelong Learning ― under the ASEM Education and Research Hub for Lifelong Learning. The aim of the White Paper article is to explore the concept of e-learning and lifelong learning in the context of Latvia taking into account the relevant government policy, regulations and financing issues

Projekts tapis Latvijas Republikas Izglītības un zinātnes ministrijas un Ukrainas Izglītības un zinātnes ministrijas Zinātnes Tehnoloģiju programmas ietvaros. Tā partneri ir Latvijas Universitāte un Ukrainas Nacionālā Dragomanova pedagoģiskā universitāte. Projekta ilgums - 2 gadi.Видання відображає прогрес та результати міжнародного проекту "Мігранти в суспільстві: проблеми в освіті". Проект реалізовано у межах Наукової програми Міністерства освіти і науки Латвійської Республіки та Міністерства освіти і науки України. Focus on further education of librarians in Latvia

Describes the needs for continuing education of professional librarians in Latvia, following independence and the consequent structural changes. Following research into further education needs, the Continuing Education Centre for Librarians of Latvia (CECLL) was established to provide training courses. CECLL is a collaborative venture, involving the Department of Library Science and Information, University of Latvia, the Library Department of the National Library of Latvia and the initiative group of IT ALISE Ltd. The Centre is supported by funds from the Soros Foundation-Latvia and the Open Society Institute. The paper describes the courses offered, the further collaborative work of the Centre and the impact of its programmes
