Modeling Of Microbubbles Pushed Through Clots Via Acoustic Radiation Force

Previous studies have shown that thrombi, which may completely block the blood flow in a vessel, can be dissolved by ultrasound acting on echo-contrast agent microbubbles. The presumed mechanism is acoustic cavitation, the radial oscillations of the bubbles, which can exert locally large forces on the fibrin ropes that make up the clot matrix. However, the movement of the bubbles through the clot in the absence of flow suggests that acoustic radiation force also plays an important role. Because detailed mechanistic modeling of this process is not available, we present here a heuristic study in which microbubble transit times in gels of various porosities were measured and described by a simplified percolation theory. Results suggest considerations for optimizing the penetration of active microbubbles in sonothrombolysis

Effective coping with cyberbullying in boys and girls: the mediating role of self-awareness, responsible decision-making, and social support

There is sufficient evidence on the negative consequences of cyberbullying victimisation depending on the coping styles. Social support seeking is among the most effective strategies for coping with cybervictimisation, but it is scarcely used. The robust Maximum Likelihood (ML) method was used to test the potential mediating role of individual (self-awareness, and responsible decision-making) and contextual variables (self-perceived parental and peer support) in the relationship between cybervictimisation and social support seeking in boys and girls. This cross-sectional study collected data from 1,276 Spanish secondary school students (51.2% boys, 48.8% girls) aged 11-18 (M = 13.88, SD = 1.42). Structural equation modelling (SEM) results pointed out responsible decision-making and self-perceived parental support as relevant mediating factors for girls. By contrast, the model was not significant for boys. These findings highlight the importance of both individual and contextual variables in helping adolescents cope with cyberaggressions, considering gender differences

ABSTRACT This article explores ethical issues of accounting information manipulation (AIM) in the political arena. After conceptualizing AIM, including its drivers, techniques, contextualities and impacts, the authors discuss underlying tensions between various types of values that emerge as a trigger for applying AIM. In that respect a distinction is made between values at the societal, organizational and individual level, such as, respectively, sustainability, transparency and honesty, and additionally between private values related to personal gain and public values

Hodgkin lymphoma: A special microenvironment

Classical Hodgkn’s lymphoma (cHL) is one of the most particular lymphomas for the few tumor cells surrounded by an inflammatory microenvironment. Reed-Sternberg (RS) and Hodgkin (H) cells reprogram and evade antitumor mechanisms of the normal cells present in the microenvi-ronment. The cells of microenvironment are essential for growth and survival of the RS/H cells and are recruited through the effect of cytokines/chemokines. We summarize recent advances in gene expression profiling (GEP) analysis applied to study microenvironment component in cHL. We also describe the main therapies that target not only the neoplastic cells but also the cellular components of the background

Microbiology managers: managerial training in the RItrain project

Leaders of research infrastructures (RIs) in Europe who are scientists require competencies in management. RItrain has addressed this issue by identifying skills required, locating relevant courses and finding gaps, whilst establishing a Master of Management programme.
