    Time-Reversal-Even Nonlinear Current Induced Spin Polarization

    We propose a time-reversal-even spin generation in second order of electric fields, which dominates the current induced spin polarization in a wide class of centrosymmetric nonmagnetic materials, and leads to a novel nonlinear spin-orbit torque in magnets. We reveal a quantum origin of this effect from the momentum space dipole of the anomalous spin polarizability. First-principles calculations predict sizable spin generations in several nonmagnetic hcp metals, in monolayer TiTe2_{2}, and in ferromagnetic monolayer MnSe2_{2}, which can be detected in experiment. Our work opens up the broad vista of nonlinear spintronics in both nonmagnetic and magnetic systems.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    Asteroseismic based estimation of the surface gravity for the LAMOST giant stars

    Asteroseismology is one of the most accurate approaches to estimate the surface gravity of a star. However, most of the data from the current spectroscopic surveys do not have asteroseismic measurements, which is very expensive and time consuming. In order to improve the spectroscopic surface gravity estimates for a large amount of survey data with the help of the small subset of the data with seismic measurements, we set up a support vector regression model for the estimation of the surface gravity supervised by 1,374 LAMOST giant stars with Kepler seismic surface gravity. The new approach can reduce the uncertainty of the estimates down to about 0.1 dex, which is better than the LAMOST pipeline by at least a factor of 2, for the spectra with signal-to-noise ratio higher than 20. Compared with the logg estimated from the LAMOST pipeline, the revised logg values provide a significantly improved match to the expected distribution of red clump and RGB stars from stellar isochrones. Moreover, even the red bump stars, which extend to only about 0.1 dex in logg, can be discriminated from the new estimated surface gravity. The method is then applied to about 350,000 LAMOST metal-rich giant stars to provide improved surface gravity estimates.     In order to improve the accuracy and applicability of person re-identification(Re-ID),a Re-ID method based on vector attention mechanism GoogLeNet is proposed.Firstly,three groups of images(anchor,positive and negative) are input into the GoogLeNet-GMP network to obtain segmented feature vectors.Then,spatial pyramid pooling(SPP) is used to aggregate the features from different pyramid levels,and attention mechanism is introduced.By integrating the multi-scale pooling regions which represent the visual information of the target,the distinguishable features on multiple semantic levels are obtained.At the same time,the mixed form of two different loss functions is taken as the final loss function.Experiments on Market-15012 and Duke-MTMC3 data set show that the proposed method performs better in Rank-1 and mAP indicators than other excellent methods

    Vertical variations of soil carbon under different land uses in a karst critical zone observatory (CZO), SW China

    Soil is a key carbon reservoir balancing global carbon budget and regulating climate change. Barren soils in karst zones have weak capacity for soil and water conservation and are readily erodible, making the carbon biogeochemical processes within karst soils potentially rapid and complex. To explore the vertical variation of soil carbon under karst conditions and its response to land-use change, this study investigated concentrations and isotopic compositions of both soil organic and inorganic carbon (SOC and SIC) in different depths of four land-use types in a typical karst region, SW China. Results show that as soil depth increases, SOC concentrations decrease, and its δ13C ratios (from −27.3‰ to −19.4‰) increase in 0–20 cm depth but decrease at depths below 20 cm. The fresh SOC is mostly sequestered and cycled within the topsoil and subject to different controls than that of the subsoil. The turnover rate of SOC in karst soils does not directly co-vary with isotopic fractionation among different land uses. Long-term cultivation causes SOC loss from karst soils, which can be alleviated or even partially restored after farming cessation. By contrast, SIC represents < 10% of soil total carbon. The vertical heterogeneity of SIC variation and the direct influence of biological factors on SIC are both weaker relative to SOC. The low δ13C ratios of SIC (from −20.4‰ to −3.0‰) indicate there is intense dissolution and reprecipitation of pedogenic carbonate within karst soil, especially in the upper cultivated layers. These results highlight that both SOC and SIC are labile and susceptible to land-use change in karst zones, which need to be considered in estimating karst carbon sink and its role in balancing global carbon budget on variable temporal scales

    Antibiotic synergist OM19r reverses aminoglycoside resistance in multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli

    Introduction: The continued emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial pathogens require a new strategy to improve the efficacy of existing antibiotics. Proline-rich antimicrobial peptides (PrAMPs) could also be used as antibacterial synergists due to their unique mechanism of action. Methods: Utilizing a series of experiments on membrane permeability, In vitro protein synthesis, In vitro transcription and mRNA translation, to further elucidate the synergistic mechanism of OM19r combined with gentamicin. Results: A proline-rich antimicrobial peptide OM19r was identified in this study and its efficacy against Escherichia coli B2 (E. coli B2) was evaluated on multiple aspects. OM19r increased antibacterial activity of gentamicin against multidrug-resistance E. coli B2 by 64 folds, when used in combination with aminoglycoside antibiotics. Mechanistically, OM19r induced change of inner membrane permeability and inhibited translational elongation of protein synthesis by entering to E. coli B2 via intimal transporter SbmA. OM19r also facilitated the accumulation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). In animal models, OM19r significantly improved the efficacy of gentamicin against E. coli B2. Discussion: Our study reveals that OM19r combined with GEN had a strong synergistic inhibitory effect against multi-drug resistant E. coli B2. OM19r and GEN inhibited translation elongation and initiation, respectively, and ultimately affected the normal protein synthesis of bacteria. These findings provide a potential therapeutic option against multidrug-resistant E. coli

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Some UL45 gene function of Herpesvirus was reported. While there was no any report of the duck enteritis virus (DEV) UL45 protein as yet.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The UL45 gene and des-transmembrane domain of UL45 (named UL45Δ gene, 295-675bp of UL45) of DEV were amplified by PCR and subcloned into the prokaryotic expression vector pET-32a(+). The constructed recombinant plasmids were transformed into the host strain BL21(DE3) PLysS and induced by IPTG. SDS-PAGE analysis showed the UL45 gene couldn't express while UL45Δ gene was highly expressed. His Purify Kit or salting-out could purify the protein effectively. Using the purified protein to immunize New-Zealand rabbits and produce polyclonal antibody. The agar diffusion reaction showed the titer of antibody was 1:32. Western blot analysis indicated the purified rabbit anti-UL45Δ IgG had a high level of specificity and the UL45 gene was a part of DEV genome. The transcription phase study of UL45 gene showed that expression of UL45 mRNA was at a low level from 0 to 18 h post-infection (pi), then accumulated quickly at 24 h pi and peaked at 42 h pi. It can be detected till 72 h pi. Besides, western blot analysis of purified virion and different viral ingredients showed that the UL45 protein resided in the purified virion and the viral envelope.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The rabbit anti-UL45Δ IgG was produced successfully and it can serve as a good tool for penetrating studies of the function of DEV UL45 protein. The transcription phase and protein characteristics analysis indicated that DEV UL45 gene was a late gene and UL45 protein may be a viral envelope protein.</p
