    Get PDF
In modern laboratories, an increasing number of automated stations and instruments are applied as standalone automated systems such as biological high throughput screening systems, chemical parallel reactors etc. At the same time, the mobile robot transportation solution becomes popular with the development of robotic technologies. In this dissertation, a new superordinate control system, called hierarchical workflow management system (HWMS) is presented to manage and to handle both, automated laboratory systems and logistics systems.

Stochastic Simulation on System Reliability and Component Probabilistic Importance of Road Network

    Get PDF
Because of the combination explosion problem, it is difficult to use probability analytical method to calculate the system reliability of large networks. The paper develops a stochastic simulation (Monte Carlo-based) method to study the system reliability and component probabilistic importance of the road network. The proposed method considers the characteristics of the practical road network as follows: both link (roadway segment) and node (intersection) components are emphasized in the road network; the reliability for a link or node component may be at the in-between state; namely, its reliability value is between 0 and 1. The method is then implemented using the object-oriented programming language C++ and integrated into a RARN-MGG (reliability analysis of road network using Monte Carlo, GIS, and grid) system. Finally, two numerical examples based on a simple road network and a large real road network, respectively, are carried out to characterize the feasibility and to demonstrate the strength of the stochastic simulation method

An IoT-based Thermal Modelling of Dwelling Rooms to Enable Flexible Energy Management

    Get PDF
The thermal model of dwellings is the basis for flexible energy management of smart homes, where heating load is a big part of demand. It can also be operated as virtual energy storage to enable flexibility. However, constrained by data measurements and learning methods, the accuracy of existing thermal models is unsatisfying due to time-varying disturbances. This paper, based on the edge computing system, develops a dark-grey box method for dwelling thermal modelling. This darkgrey box method has high accuracy for: i) containing a thermal model integrated with time-varying features, and ii) utilising both physical and machine-learning models to learn the thermal features of dwellings. The proposed modelling method is demonstrated on a real room, enabled by an Internet of Things (IoT) platform. Results illustrate its feasibility and accuracy, and also reveal the data-size dependency of different feature-learning methods, providing valuable insights in selecting appropriate feature-learning methods in practice. This work provides more accurate thermal modelling, thus enabling more efficient energy use and management and helping reduce energy bills

Tightly Secure Chameleon Hash Functions in the Multi-User Setting and Their Applications

    Get PDF
We define the security notion of (strong) collision resistance for chameleon hash functions in the multi-user setting ((S-)MU-CR security). We also present three constructions, CHF_dl, CHF_rsa and CHF_fac, and prove their tight S-MU-CR security based on the discrete logarithm, RSA and factoring assumptions, respectively. In applications, our tightly S-MU-CR secure chameleon hash functions help us to lift a signature scheme from (weak) unforgeability to strong unforgeability in the multi-user setting, and the security reduction is tightness preserving. Furthermore, they can also be used to construct tightly secure online/offline signatures, chameleon signatures and proxy signatures, etc., in the multi-user setting

Formulation of Locational Marginal Electricity-Carbon Price in Power Systems

    Get PDF
Decarbonisation of power systems is essential for realising carbon neutrality, in which the economic cost caused by carbon is needed to be qualified. Based on the formulation of locational marginal price (LMP), this paper proposes a locational marginal electricity-carbon price (EC-LMP) model to reveal carbon-related costs caused by power consumers. A carbon-price-integrated optimal power flow (C-OPF) is then developed to maximise the economic efficiency of the power system considering the costs of electricity and carbon. Case studies are presented to demonstrate the new formulation and the results demonstrate the efficacy of the EC-LMP-based C-OPF on decarbonisation and economy
