The effect of hormone therapy on the level of depression and quality of life in women in perimenopausal age, living in the countryside
Materiał i metody: Badaniami objęto 91 kobiet w wieku 45–55 lat, mieszkanek wsi. Pierwszą grupę stanowiły
kobiety stosujące terapię hormonalną, a drugą kobiety niestosujące tej terapii. W pracy zastosowano kwestionariusz
Aim of the study: The aim of this study is to compare the level and intensity of depression symptoms and
other symptoms visible in perimenopausal period in women living on the rural areas, who take hormone
therapy (HT) and women who don’t take this therapy.
Material and methods: 91 women, country habitants, in age of 45-55 were tested in two groups. First group
- a clinical group-consisted of women who take hormone therapy (HT), and the second group-a control groupconsisted of women who don’t take this therapy. In the test was used the anonymous self-developed
questionnaire, including questions concerning the occurrence of the menopausal symptoms, treatment with
hormone and conclusions therapy and Beck Depression Inventory. Among 91 tested women, 39 don’t take
hormone therapy and 52 do or did. The statistical analysis was conducted with help of the chi-square test.
Results and conclusions: An essential difference was found in frequency of the depression symptoms
occurrence between the clinical group and the control group. Only 13.5% of women taking the HRT suffered
from some depression symptoms, while the frequency of the depression symptoms in group of woman who
didn’t take this therapy was 59%. On the basis of those results, it can be said that HRT has an influence on the
reduction of some ailments connected with menopausal period such as: anxiety, weakness and headache
Emotional problems among couples treated for infertility
Materiał i metody. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone w latach 2009–2010 w grupie 110 osób leczących się
z powodu niepłodności w Lublinie. Jako narzędzie badawcze wykorzystano autorski kwestionariusz ankiety
z wykorzystaniem Skali Becka. Uzyskane wyniki badań poddano analizie statystycznej posługując się
oprogramowaniem komputerowym STATISTICA 8.0 (StatSoft, Polska).
Wyniki. Brak objawów depresji stwierdzono u 78,18% ankietowanych, a przyczyna niepłodności w badanych
małżeństwach najczęściej pozostawała nieznana (51,82%). W badaniach wykazano, że objawy depresji
występowały częściej wśród badanych, którzy mieli problemy z zajściem w ciążę ponad 5 lat. Pary
podczas leczenia niepłodności miały problemy emocjonalne (53,64%) i finansowe (49,09%).
Wnioski. Zaburzenia emocjonalne częściej występują u osób niezadowolonych ze współżycia seksualnego
oraz których leczenie niepłodności trwa ponad 5 lat. Objawy depresji występowały częściej wśród badanych,
u których leczenie nadało mechaniczny charakter pożyciu seksualnemu.Introduction. Infertility is a specific disease, which always concerns two young people during their most
active life. Inability to realize one of the most important desires of every human being - to have a child -
has a strong influence on the psycho-emotional steam. The desire to have children is usually so great that
often dominates over all other concerns and ambitions in life.
Material and methods. The study was conducted in the years 2009/2010 in the group of 110 people treated
for infertility in Lublin. Proprietary research tool was a questionnaire and Beck Depression Inventory. The
results were statistically analyzed based on computer software STATISTICA 8.0 (StatSoft, Poland).
Results. No symptoms of depression were found in 78.18% of the respondents, and the cause of infertility in
most subjects remained unknown (51.82%). Studies have shown that depressive symptoms were more common among respondents who had problems getting pregnant for over 5 years. Couples during infertility
treatment had emotional (53.64%) and financial (49.09%) problems. In 61.82% of respondents agreed that
infertility treatment strengthened the marital relationship and sexual life has not changed (69.91%).
Conclusions. Affective disorders are more common in those dissatisfied with sexual intercourse, and infertility
treatment which lasts for over 5 years. Symptoms of depression were among the respondents who
admitted that the treatment of infertility has made their sex life mechanical

Anxiety and depression in women cured due to infertility
W pracy zastosowano następujące metody badawcze: ankietę konstrukcji własnej, dotyczącą danych socjodemograficznych, Inwentarz Depresji Becka (Beck Depression Inventory - BDI) oraz Inwentarz Stanu i Cechy Lęku
(State Trait Anxiety Inventory - STAI). U 33,65% badanych stwierdzono łagodną depresję, a u 10,58% - umiarkowaną.
The rate of depression among women during the life is about 21%. The level of anxiety and depression in infertile women seems to be similar to these experienced by women suffering from cancer or coronary disease.
The aim of the study was to determine the intensity and the risk factors of anxiety and depression in women
treated because of sterility. The group consisted of 104 women treated of infertility. In the work we applied the following investigative methods: questionnaire consisting of social and demographical data, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) 33.65% women confirmed minor depression disorder, 10.58%
moderate depression. The only essential variable which influenced anxiety and depression was the lack of familiar
support. The high essential positive relationship was confirmed among the anxiety as a trait and the anxiety
symptoms. Women with depression had more anxiety symptoms in comparison to women without depression
Menopause and women’s sexual disorders
W leczeniu
można stosować zarówno klasyczną hormonalną terapię zastępczą (HTZ), jak i substytucję androgenów.
Należy także uwzględnić znaczenie czynników psychologicznych i emocjonalnych.Menopause is period of great changes in women’s sexual life. It is connected with changes of sex hormones
levels (estrogen, gestagens and testosterone) and gonadotropins. During treatment it could be used
either classic hormonal replacement therapy or androgens substitution. Influence of psychological and
emotional factors should be also considered

Acute Effect of the Compression Technique on the Electromyographic Activity of the Masticatory Muscles and Mouth Opening in Subjects with Active Myofascial Trigger Points
Active myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in masticatory muscles are associated with a reduced range of motion and muscle weakness within the stomatognathic system. However, it is hard to identify the most effective treatment technique for disorders associated with MTrPs. The objective of this study was to analyze the acute effect of the compression technique (CT) on active maximal mouth opening (MMO) and electromyographic activity of the masseter (MM) and temporalis anterior (TA) muscles in subjects with active myofascial trigger points in the MM muscles. The study group comprised 26 women (mean age 22 ± 2) with bilateral active myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in the MM. The control group comprised 26 healthy women (mean age 22 ± 1) without the presence of MTrPs in the MM. Masticatory muscle activity was recorded in two conditions (during resting mandibular position and maximum voluntary clenching) before and after the application of the CT to the MTrPs in MM. After the CT application, a significant decrease in resting activity (3.09 μV vs. 2.37 μV, p = 0.006) and a significant increase in clenching activity (110.20 μV vs. 139.06 μV, p = 0.014) within the MM muscles were observed in the study group, which was not observed within TA muscles. Controls showed significantly higher active MMO values compared to the study group before CT (50.42 mm vs. 46.31 mm, p = 0.024). The differences between the study group after CT and controls, as well as among the study group before and after CT did not reach the assumed level of significance in terms of active MMO. The compression technique appears to be effective in the improvement of the active maximal mouth opening and gives significant acute effects on bioelectric masticatory muscle activity. Therefore, CT seems to be effective in MTrPs rehabilitation within the stomatognathic system
