Modified algebraic Bethe ansatz for XXZ chain on the segment - III - Proof
In this paper, we prove the off-shell equation satisfied by the transfer
matrix associated with the XXZ spin- chain on the segment with two
generic integrable boundaries acting on the Bethe vector. The essential step is
to prove that the expression of the action of a modified creation operator on
the Bethe vector has an off-shell structure which results in an inhomogeneous
term in the eigenvalues and Bethe equations of the corresponding transfer

Study of Phase Reconstruction Techniques applied to Smith-Purcell Radiation Measurements
Measurements of coherent radiation at accelerators typically give the
absolute value of the beam profile Fourier transform but not its phase. Phase
reconstruction techniques such as Hilbert transform or Kramers Kronig
reconstruction are used to recover such phase. We report a study of the

Permits vs. Offsets Under Investment Uncertainty
A global crediting mechanism would enable developing countries without binding emissions reduction targets to participate in the international carbon market. Linking the framework on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) as an offset program to major cap-and-trade programs is a particularly promising approach to increase both climate finance and cost-efficiency. However, the coexistence of permits and offsets also creates a classic case of interaction effects. In this paper, we explore how the availability of multiple compliance instruments affects energy investment incentives. Alternative trading and linkage schemes are compared using a real options model of firm-level investment decisions under stochastic prices and the ability to delay investments. We first isolate the critical design factors that drive private investments in the energy sector. We then identify policy regimes that balance the different concerns in the polarized debate for and against the inclusion of forest carbon offsets
Improvement of the size estimation of 3D tracked droplets using digital in-line holography with joint estimation reconstruction
International audienceDigital holography is a valuable tool for three-dimensional information extraction. Among existing configurations, the originally proposed setup (i.e. Gabor, or in-line holography), is reasonably immune to variations in the experimental environment making it a method of choice for studies of fluid dynamics. Nevertheless, standard hologram reconstruction techniques, based on numerical light back-propagation are prone to artifacts such as twin images or aliases that limit both the quality and quantity of information extracted from the acquired holograms. To get round this issue, the hologram reconstruction as a parametric inverse problem has been shown to accurately estimate 3D positions and the size of seeding particles directly from the hologram. To push the bounds of accuracy on size estimation still further, we propose to fully exploit the information redundancy of a hologram video sequence using joint estimation reconstruction. Applying this approach in a bench-top experiment, we show that it led to a relative accuracy of 0.13 % (for a 30 ”m diameter droplet) for droplet size estimation, and a tracking accuracy of Ï x Ă Ï y Ă Ï z = 0.15 Ă 0.15 Ă 1 pixels
Corrosive environment in the annulus of flexible pipes: pH measurements in confined conditions and under high pressure
International audienceAnnulus of flexible pipelines represents a specific corrosive environment for the high strength carbon steel wires, mainly due to the low V/S ratio between the volume of electrolyte and the exposed steel surface. Corrosion experiments with continuous in situ pH measurements were performed under CO 2 partial pressure from 0.01 bar and up to 10 bar, and with a V/S ratio of 0.3 mL/cmÂČ. After only a few days immersion, supersaturated pH was measured at levels close to +1 pH unit above the saturated pH calculated corresponding to iron carbonate solubility. Good correlation was found between experiments and a pH and corrosion model specially developed for confined environment. This model predicts that the corrosion rate in super-saturated conditions is considerably reduced in comparison with bulk situation. Long term behavior was also examined. It appears that the evolution of super-saturated pH with time passes by a maximum value, then decreases slowly to a new equilibrium. It was postulated that the maximum corresponds to a fully active surface. Then, as precipitation occurs, corrosion rate is decreased by corrosion scale. The decrease of corrosion rate could be quantified from the final pH value: value as low as a few ”m/year was found. Even with such low corrosion rates, high confinement still induced super-saturation effect, with final pH values at +0.5 pH units above saturated pH
System thermal-hydraulic modelling of the phénix dissymmetric test benchmark
Phénix is a French pool-type sodium-cooled prototype reactor; before the definitive shutdown, occurred in 2009, a final set of experimental tests are carried out in order to increase the knowledge on the operation and the safety aspect of the pool-type liquid metal-cooled reactors. One of the experiments was the Dissymmetric End-of-Life Test which was selected for the validation benchmark activity in the frame of SESAME project. The computer code validation plays a key role in the safety assessment of the innovative nuclear reactors and the Phénix dissymmetric test provides useful experimental data to verify the computer codes capability in the asymmetric thermal-hydraulic behaviour into a pool-type liquid metal-cooled reactor. This paper shows the comparison of the outcomes obtained with six different System Thermal-Hydraulic (STH) codes: RELAP5-3D©, SPECTRA, ATHLET, SAS4A/SASSYS-1, ASTEC-Na and CATHARE. The nodalization scheme of the reactor was individually achieved by the participants; during the development of the thermal-hydraulic model, the pool nodalization methodology had a special attention in order to investigate the capability of the STH codes to reproduce the dissymmetric effects which occur in each loop and into pools, caused by the azimuthal asymmetry of the boundary conditions. The modelling methodology of the participants is discussed and the main results are compared in this paper to obtain useful guide lines for the future modelling of innovative liquid metal pool-type reactors

Non-diagonal open spin-1/2 XXZ quantum chains by separation of variables: Complete spectrum and matrix elements of some quasi-local operators
The integrable quantum models, associated to the transfer matrices of the
6-vertex reflection algebra for spin 1/2 representations, are studied in this
paper. In the framework of Sklyanin's quantum separation of variables (SOV), we
provide the complete characterization of the eigenvalues and eigenstates of the
transfer matrix and the proof of the simplicity of the transfer matrix
spectrum. Moreover, we use these integrable quantum models as further key
examples for which to develop a method in the SOV framework to compute matrix
elements of local operators. This method has been introduced first in [1] and
then used also in [2], it is based on the resolution of the quantum inverse
problem (i.e. the reconstruction of all local operators in terms of the quantum
separate variables) plus the computation of the action of separate covectors on
separate vectors. In particular, for these integrable quantum models, which in
the homogeneous limit reproduce the open spin-1/2 XXZ quantum chains with
non-diagonal boundary conditions, we have obtained the SOV-reconstructions for
a class of quasi-local operators and determinant formulae for the
covector-vector actions. As consequence of these findings we provide one
determinant formulae for the matrix elements of this class of reconstructed
