Vertex Operators of Super Wilson Loops
We study the supersymmetric Wilson loop as introduced by Caron-Huot, which
attaches to lightlike polygons certain edge and vertex operators, whose shape
is determined by supersymmetry constraints. We state explicit formulas for the
vertex operators to all orders in the Gra{\ss}mann expansion, thus filling a
gap in the literature. This is achieved by deriving a recursion formula out of
the supersymmetry constraints.Comment: 11 page
Transformational Leadership, Design Thinking and the Innovative Firm
In this chapter we discuss the intricacies of innovation leadership behaviour and design thinking as drivers and enablers of organizational innovation. We propose transformational leadership and design thinking capabilities as suitable for alleviating issues of business innovation. Managers and the processes they apply, the behaviours they exert and the work cultures they promote are shaping the organisational practices and culture in which innovation occurs. As we explore design thinking capabilities and further conceptualise and interpreted them in light of transformational leadership theory, we find that transformational leadership offers a theoretical lens through which the transformative power of design thinking can be explained. A conceptual design innovation leadership model is proposed and its theoretical and managerial implications are discussed
The Design Thinking Mindset: An Assessment Of What We Know And What We See In Practice
We review the design and management literature to identify and define key components of a design thinking mindset and report initial findings from fifteen in-depth interviews with innovation managers, who reflect on their practices while implementing design thinking in their organizations. Our study confirms a set of commonly understood and applied mindsets, but also reveals organizational constraints on translating cognition into behaviour. We argue that further mapping of design thinking mindsets and linking them to leadership theory provides a suitable point of departure for the study of design thinking and its role for innovation
A high-sensitivity laser-pumped Mx magnetometer
Abstract.: We discuss the design and performance of a laser-pumped cesium vapor magnetometer in the Mx configuration. The device will be employed in the control and stabilization of fluctuating magnetic fields and gradients in a new experiment searching for a permanent electric dipole moment of the neutron. We have determined the intrinsic sensitivity of the device to be 15 fT in a 1 Hz bandwidth, limited by technical laser noise. In the shot noise limit the magnetometer can reach a sensitivity of 10 fT in a 1 Hz bandwidth. We have used the device to study the fluctuations of a stable magnetic field in a multi-layer magnetic shield for integration times in the range of 2-100 seconds. The residual fluctuations for times up to a few minutes are traced back to the instability of the power supply used to generate the fiel
Compactness for Holomorphic Supercurves
We study the compactness problem for moduli spaces of holomorphic supercurves
which, being motivated by supergeometry, are perturbed such as to allow for
transversality. We give an explicit construction of limiting objects for
sequences of holomorphic supercurves and prove that, in important cases, every
such sequence has a convergent subsequence provided that a suitable extension
of the classical energy is uniformly bounded. This is a version of Gromov
compactness. Finally, we introduce a topology on the moduli spaces enlarged by
the limiting objects which makes these spaces compact and metrisable.Comment: 38 page
Sensitivity of double resonance alignment magnetometers
We present an experimental study of the intrinsic magnetometric sensitivity
of an optical/rf-frequency double resonance magnetometer in which linearly
polarized laser light is used in the optical pumping and detection processes.
We show that a semi-empirical model of the magnetometer can be used to describe
the magnetic resonance spectra. Then, we present an efficient method to predict
the optimum operating point of the magnetometer, i.e., the light power and rf
Rabi frequency providing maximum magnetometric sensitivity. Finally, we apply
the method to investigate the evolution of the optimum operating point with
temperature. The method is very efficient to determine relaxation rates and
thus allowed us to determine the three collisional disalignment cross sections
for the components of the alignment tensor. Both first and second harmonic
signals from the magnetometer are considered and compared
X-ray-provoked non-Mendelian transgenerational oncodeterminants
Cancer is the most important risk of radiation exposure. There is a definite lack of suitable test systems, human epidemiological data are only available for certain radiation types, especially not for charged particles. We use the Xiphophorus model which is genetically well characterized. As a prelude to experiments with heavy ions we report here on results obtained with x-rays to establish the necessary baseline for future studies. Apart from this direct aim we hope to obtain also a better insight in the genetical determination of cancer formation
Anticipating the content and circumstances of skill transfer: Unrealistic expectations of driver training and graduated licensing?
The critically ill patient after hepatobiliary surgery
BACKGROUND: We analyzed the causes and results of utilization of critical care services in the special care unit in patients after surgical procedures performed by the hepatobiliary surgical service during a 23-month period. RESULTS: Thirty-two of 537 patients (6.0%) required postoperative admission to the special care unit. Twenty-one patients were admitted directly from operating room or from recovery room because of inability to wean from ventilator (n = 10), hypovolemic shock (n = 4), myocardial ischemia or infarction (n = 2), sepsis (n = 2), upper gastrointestinal bleeding (n = 2), and acute renal failure (n =1). Eleven postoperative patients were admitted from floor care for respiratory failure (n = 4), cardiac dysrhythmia or infarction (n = 4), sepsis (n = 2), and upper gastrointestinal bleeding (n = 1). Thirty-eight per cent of patients (n = 12) admitted to the special care unit after surgery died. By multivariate analysis, total postoperative stay in the special care unit that was greater than median total duration of stay of 4.5 days was the only independent predictor of mortality (P = 0.041). CONCLUSIONS: Respiratory failure was the predominant component of all complications after hepatobiliary surgery. No clinically useful predictors of eventual outcome could be identified
