My Experience as Park Ranger at Lake Red Rock
In December of 1999, I decided to apply for a co-op position working for the Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Red Rock. Looking at the job description, it included all the skills I needed for the real world (prescribed burning, timber cruising, etc.), and it sounded fun (boat patrol, dam tours)
Emergent literacy : school to home connection
All homes have opportunities to influence young children\u27s emerging literacy. Parents or other caregivers and teachers can work together to help children develop literacy abilities. Sharing this responsibility between the home.and school demonstrates to children the importance of learning. Establishing connections from home to school and from school to home will help children make sense of the world in which they live. The school can provide families with ideas to support literacy development in the home.
A project to support children\u27s emerging literacy at home is provided through the use of literacy theme bags. This project is designed for first grade students but could be adapted for younger and older students. The project emphasizes to families the importance of establishing a partnership between school and home for the benefit of their child\u27s literacy learning. Newsletters sharing tips for reading, writing, and listening to children read provide parents or other caregivers with information on how they can help in their child\u27s literacy development
