Amenities and the labor earnings function
I was unable to copy/paste the abstract, but the paper argues that amenities exert an important effect on wage differentials over space. Indeed, we show that as much has half of the apparent effect of unionization on wages is actually compensation for less desirable climate in locations that are most unionized.amenities; climate; weather; wage compensation; return to unionization

Lamina-specific AMPA receptor dynamics following visual deprivation in vivo.
Regulation of AMPA receptor (AMPAR) expression is central to synaptic plasticity and brain function, but how these changes occur in vivo remains elusive. Here, we developed a method to longitudinally monitor the expression of synaptic AMPARs across multiple cortical layers in awake mice using two-photon imaging. We observed that baseline AMPAR expression in individual spines is highly dynamic with more dynamics in primary visual cortex (V1) layer 2/3 (L2/3) neurons than V1 L5 neurons. Visual deprivation through binocular enucleation induces a synapse-specific and depth-dependent change of synaptic AMPARs in V1 L2/3 neurons, wherein deep synapses are potentiated more than superficial synapses. The increase is specific to L2/3 neurons and absent on apical dendrites of L5 neurons, and is dependent on expression of the AMPAR-binding protein GRIP1. Our study demonstrates that specific neuronal connections, across cortical layers and even within individual neurons, respond uniquely to changes in sensory experience
Incorporating inventories into supply and demand analysis
While the paper lacks a formal abstract, it draws the important distinction between stocks and flows in supply and demand to better understand the business cycle
Four-terminal connector for measuring resistance of a pyrotechnic initiator
A four-terminal electrical connector device (40) for testing and measuring unknown resistances of initiators (11) used for starting pyrotechnic events aboard a Space Transportation System. The testing device minimizes contact resistance degradation effects and so improves the reliability of resistance measurement taken with the device. Separate and independent voltage sensing (19) and current supply (20) circuits each includes a pair of socket contacts (13-16) for mating engagement with the pins (17,18) of the initiator. The unknown resistance that is measured by the device is the resistance of the bridgewire (23) of the initiator which is required to be between 0.95 and 1.15 ohms

Phosphoinositide-3-kinase/akt - Dependent Signaling is Required for Maintenance of [Ca\u3csup\u3e2+\u3c/sup\u3e]\u3csub\u3eI,\u3c/sub\u3eI\u3csub\u3eCa\u3c/sub\u3e, and Ca\u3csup\u3e2+\u3c/sup\u3e Transients in HL-1 Cardiomyocytes
The phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3K/Akt) dependent signaling pathway plays an important role in cardiac function, specifically cardiac contractility. We have reported that sepsis decreases myocardial Akt activation, which correlates with cardiac dysfunction in sepsis. We also reported that preventing sepsis induced changes in myocardial Akt activation ameliorates cardiovascular dysfunction. In this study we investigated the role of PI3K/Akt on cardiomyocyte function by examining the role of PI3K/Akt-dependent signaling on [Ca 2+]i, Ca2+ transients and membrane Ca2+ current, ICa, in cultured murine HL-1 cardiomyocytes. LY294002 (120 μM), a specific PI3K inhibitor, dramatically decreased HL-1 [Ca 2+]i, Ca2+ transients and ICa. We also examined the effect of PI3K isoform specific inhibitors, i.e. α (PI3-kinase α inhibitor 2; 28 nM); ? (TGX-221; 100 nM) and γ (AS-252424; 100 nM), to determine the contribution of specific isoforms to HL-1 [Ca 2+]i regulation. Pharmacologic inhibition of each of the individual PI3K isoforms significantly decreased [Ca2+]i, and inhibited Ca 2+ transients. Triciribine (120 μM), which inhibits AKT downstream of the PI3K pathway, also inhibited [Ca2+]i, and Ca 2+ transients and ICa. We conclude that the PI3K/Akt pathway is required for normal maintenance of [Ca2+]i in HL-1 cardiomyocytes. Thus, myocardial PI3K/Akt-PKB signaling sustains [Ca 2+]i required for excitation-contraction coupling in cardiomyoctyes
