Plasma jet electrode has longer operating life
Water-cooled, silver-infiltrated tungsten electrode has twice the operating lifetime of the pure tungsten electrode used in plasma jet generators. This electrode reduces the erosion rate, ensures excellent heat transfer, and reduces thermal stresses
Thermocouple-flexible cable connector insulator is highly reliable
Plastic /polycarbonate/ insulator improves thermocouple reliability in test operations. The insulator is molded in half sections, assembled mechanically and eliminates electrical shorting
Inexpensive high-temperature furnace for thermocouple calibration
New furnace calibrates unknown thermocouple by comparing its electrical output to a reference thermocouple /previously calibrated by optical pyrometry/, as both are heated simultaneously. Thermocouples may be radioactive, thus heat source must be accessible by remote manipulation and inspection measurements. Advantages of furnace operation are cited
Computation of quark mass anomalous dimension at O(1/N_f^2) in quantum chromodynamics
We present the formalism to calculate d-dimensional critical exponents in QCD
in the large N_f expansion where N_f is the number of quark flavours. It relies
in part on demonstrating that at the d-dimensional fixed point of QCD the
critical theory is equivalent to a non-abelian version of the Thirring model.
We describe the techniques used to compute critical two and three loop Feynman
diagrams and as an application determine the quark wave function, eta, and mass
renormalization critical exponents at O(1/N_f^2) in d-dimensions. Their values
when expressed in relation to four dimensional perturbation theory are in exact
agreement with the known four loop MSbar results. Moreover, new coefficients in
these renormalization group functions are determined to six loops and
O(1/N_f^2). The computation of the exponents in the Schwinger Dyson approach is
also provided and an expression for eta in arbitrary covariant gauge is given.Comment: 41 latex pages, 17 postscript figure
High-temperature rapid-response thermocouple for reducing atmospheres
Thermocouple measures continuously in flowing gaseous hydrogen at temperatures up to 4000 deg F, in environments made hazardous by radiation, and where rapid response and calibration reproducibility are critically important. Thermocouple wires extend continuously, without splice or foreign material, from cold junction to probe's tip
Maximal abelian and Curci-Ferrari gauges in momentum subtraction at three loops
The vertex structure of QCD fixed in the maximal abelian gauge (MAG) and
Curci-Ferrari gauge is analysed at two loops at the fully symmetric point for
the 3-point functions corresponding to the three momentum subtraction (MOM)
renormalization schemes. Consequently the three loop renormalization group
functions are determined for each of these three schemes in each gauge using
properties of the renormalization group equation.Comment: 23 latex pages, 4 figures, anc directory contains txt files with

Bilinear quark operator renormalization at generalized symmetric point
We compute Green's functions with a bilinear quark operator inserted at
non-zero momentum for a generalized momentum configuration to two loops. These
are required to assist lattice gauge theory measurements of the same quantity
in matching to the high energy behaviour. The flavour non-singlet operators
considered are the scalar, vector and tensor currents as well as the second
moment of the twist-2 Wilson operator used in deep inelastic scattering for the
measurement of nucleon structure functions.Comment: 19 latex pages, 4 figures, anc directory contains electronic version

Quark mass anomalous dimension at O(1/N_f^2) in QCD
We compute the d-dimensional critical exponents corresponding to the wave
function and mass renormalization of the quark in QCD in the Landau gauge at a
new order, O(1/N_f^2), in the large N_f expansion. The computations are
simplified by the establishment in d-dimensions of the critical point
equivalence of QCD and the non-abelian Thirring model beyond leading order. The
form of the O(1/N_f^2) coefficients in the MSbar quark mass anomalous dimension
at five loops is deduced and compared with the numerical asymptotic Pade
approximant prediction.Comment: 13 latex pages, 3 eps figure
Perturbative Part of the Non-Singlet Structure Function F_2 in the Large-N_F Limit
We have calculated Wilson coefficients and anomalous dimensions
for the non-singlet part of the structure function F_2 in the large-N_F limit.
Our result agrees with exact two and three loop calculations and gives the
leading N_F dependence of the perturbative non-singlet Wilson coefficients to
all orders in .Comment: 11 pages, including one figur
Nonperturbative ghost dynamics in the maximal Abelian gauge
We construct the effective potential for the ghost condensate
in the maximal Abelian gauge. This condensate is an
order parameter for a global continuous symmetry, which is spontaneously broken
since a nonvanishing value of lowers the vacuum energy.
The associated Goldstone mode turns out to be unphysical.Comment: 16 pages. v2: version accepted for publication in JHE
